Chapter 401 Keep a Close Eye on Them
Raymond's words made the disfigured man pause with his wine glass in hand. The disfigured man thought to himself, 'Take me along?'
The two locked eyes, and Raymond downed half his glass in one gulp. "There's still time to fix everything, as long as you tell him, there's room to negotiate your identity. I don't care how long you want to hide your identity, and I don't care if you want to keep it from me forever. But I can tell you this, you only get one chance, miss it and it's gone forever. You should know very well how much pain Paige has endured over the years. A relationship shattered into too many pieces is harder to mend, and the cracks only grow. Now her identity is clear, whether she can continue as the heir of the Ellison family after tomorrow's event, she will ultimately need her own identity and her own family."
Raymond poured himself another glass, looking at the disfigured man across from him, who seemed a bit dazed. He raised his glass to clink with the disfigured man's, then downed it again. "I guess you want to reveal your identity too, right? Otherwise, why would you choose to show up? You must have loyal subordinates who can run errands for you, no need to risk yourself. But you still came out and got caught by her. If you're hesitating, why not show your true face? Don't you think it's too cruel for her? No matter how strong a person is, there's always a threshold. Once it's crossed, it can drive someone mad. Is that the result you want to see? If not, then stand up and take responsibility for what you've done."
Raymond frowned slightly at the untouched wine in the disfigured man's glass.
Suddenly, the disfigured man raised his glass and drank it all in one go.
As he put the glass down, he said, "We have our reasons."
Raymond, confused and angry, slammed the table and shouted. "What kind of reasons justify leaving the cruelest outcome for a child? Are you even human?"
The disfigured man, equally agitated, shouted back, "At least she's alive now, which is better than lying in a cold grave."
Raymond asked, "So what are your reasons? Don't I deserve to know?"
The disfigured man took the bottle from Raymond's hand, poured himself another glass, and downed it. "I have no one I want to see, and I don't know you. You've already taken everything you wanted from me. I've stated my terms. If you want more clues or the map, the terms remain the same."
Raymond thought that bringing wine and food to talk things over would change his mind, but he didn't expect such stubbornness.
He had no intention of admitting his identity.
Raymond slammed the table again. "How can you be so cruel to her?"
The disfigured man lowered his head. "Think whatever you want. By the way, how long are you going to keep me here?"
Raymond stood up angrily. "Die here and atone for your sins!"
With that, he lost all interest in drinking and talking, stood up, and walked out.
Opening the door, he instructed Julian, who was guarding outside. "Watch him finish eating, then tie him back up."
Julian glanced at the disfigured man inside and didn't say anything to Raymond. He waved his hand, summoning his subordinates.
Julian never showed mercy to those Paige captured.
He treated Lily and Oliver the same way.
With a look from Julian, his subordinates immediately threatened the disfigured man.
"Hurry up and eat. Who knows when the next meal will be." They threatened with a rope in hand.
But the disfigured man remained unmoved, barely touching the food but drinking all the wine.
Julian tested the sharpness of a knife in his hand.
Mockingly, he said, "You're really arrogant, daring to stir up trouble between Ms. Ellison and her husband."
Before Julian finished speaking, the disfigured man downed another glass and turned to him. "Don't you like her too?"
Julian was stunned, then looked at his subordinates, awkwardly shouting. "What nonsense are you talking about?"
The disfigured man continued, "Didn't you like her the first time you saw her? A woman like her, it's natural to like her. If she divorces Raymond, wouldn't you have a chance?"
After saying that, the disfigured man continued drinking leisurely, as if he wasn't captured but invited, who was calm and unflustered.
Julian was stunned for a few seconds, then quickly adjusted.
He walked step by step to the disfigured man, stabbing the knife into the table in front of him. "You're really twisted. What kind of grudge do you have against Ms. Ellison to say such things? Can't you see we all respect her?"
The disfigured man didn't answer Julian, continuing to drink. After finishing the wine, he said, "Tie me up." Then he sat waiting to be bound.
Escape was impossible. Julian and his subordinates were watching him closely, so there was no chance of running.
After a night passed, as the sun rose and the first light came through the window, Paige woke up.
Raymond was not beside her, but Pearl was half-lying on her bed, half-curled on the sofa.
Seeing this, Paige quickly covered her with a blanket.
Luckily, Paige liked to keep the room warm while sleeping, or Pearl would have caught a cold.
As Paige was about to get out of bed, Pearl woke up. "Ms. Ellison, you're awake."
Paige asked, "Did Raymond ask you to sleep here with me?"
Pearl rubbed her sleepy eyes and nodded. "Yes."
Paige quickly got ready and went to find Raymond.
Last night, Raymond probably didn't sleep. But he must have gathered a lot of information.
Pearl also rested last night, so the latest news was probably with Raymond.
Skipping breakfast, Paige went to the study.
Raymond hadn't rested, just dozed off on the study sofa.
Seeing Paige awake and looking well, Raymond knew the ingredients he had the kitchen prepare to help her sleep were the right choice.
Paige asked, "What's the situation? Any new developments?"
Raymond shook his head. "No news on Andrew and Margaret. Louis is personally watching the Russell family, and others are watching the Hamilton family, but nothing unusual."
Paige felt a bit disappointed.
Such subtlety meant their opponent was at least as strong as they were.
At that moment, Charles knocked on the door and reported. "Mr. Carnegie, someone is here to see you."
