Chapter 211 He Brought Raymond and Paige Together
Xena was having a tough time digging up photos from Raymond and Lily's wedding. Frustrated, Xena snapped, "We need to pay for more exposure. Raymond got hitched one day and was with Paige the next, instantly trending. If we don't blow this up, we're doing them a disservice!"
Elijah went ahead, posted the photos online, paid for extra exposure, and waited for the buzz. But as soon as it went up, the post got yanked down.
Xena tried for ages, then angrily tossed the mouse. "It's Raymond and Paige. They run this platform and have banned any accounts that could hurt them."
"Xena, maybe we should think of another way." Elijah tried to calm her down.
Xena fumed. "I have no other options now!"
Elijah quickly brainstormed. "The Universe Group is huge; Paige can't control all of it. Let's see if there's anyone there who has beef with her. Maybe we can team up."
Xena looked at Elijah. "You're really coming through in the clutch."
Meanwhile, Paige suddenly remembered. "Where are Lily and Oliver? How are they doing?"
Raymond replied, "Relax, they're mentally tough. If I push too hard, I might not get anything from them."
Paige said, "You handle it."
Just as Paige was about to hit the sack, a servant came in. "Xanthe, Mr. Louis Carnegie is outside asking to see you."
Paige was taken aback. "Mr. Louis Carnegie?"
Raymond came over too. "What's he doing here so late?"
Louis hadn't been to the office all day, just stayed home talking with Francesca. Louis had no choice but to come.
Paige replied, "I don't know, but we can't just send him away, right?"
Raymond said, "You're too nice to him."
Paige smiled. "Louis rarely visits. Can't I be a bit more generous?"
The servant quickly went to bring Louis in. With a gift in hand, Louis handed it to Paige as soon as he walked in.
Raymond spoke up first, "You didn't have to bring a gift."
Louis had a strange look in his eyes when he glanced at Paige, but Raymond's words broke the moment.
Louis, flustered, said, "I just went to the hospital and asked Amelia where Luna was staying. I thought you were all at the hospital, but I couldn't find her. Anyway, I did a matching test, though I don't know the results yet."
Paige looked at Louis in surprise. If she hadn't caught what Louis was saying, she would've thought she misheard. "Why did you do a matching test?"
Louis said, "I've been caught up with my own stuff lately and haven't been paying much attention to you. I heard you were looking for a kidney donor, so I did a matching test. Hopefully, this will give you another chance."
Paige said frankly, "Thank you." She understood that Louis was just trying to show goodwill with a slim chance of success. Doing a matching test was just a gesture and might not be useful.
Louis pointed to the gift box. "My mom asked me to bring this. She was happy to hear that you and Uncle Raymond didn't get divorced."
Paige took it. "Thank Francesca for me."
Raymond walked over and gently put his arm around Paige's shoulder. "Speaking of which, Paige and I are really fated. When Paige first got out of prison, she met me at Windrain Tower. It's truly inexplicable."
Raymond brought up their meeting at Windrain Tower to hint at Louis. If Louis hadn't drugged him back then, they might not have become a couple so quickly. Paige got Raymond's drift and didn't say anything else.
Louis asked, "How come I don't know about the meeting at Windrain Tower?" As soon as Louis said this, he started feeling puzzled but didn't dwell on it too much.
Paige played along perfectly. "How would I know? You just pulled me into the room as soon as I knocked. Maybe it was fate."
Louis seemed to remember something about Windrain Tower. He suddenly asked, "You met at Windrain Tower before you got married? When was this?"
Raymond replied, "It was the day Ethan set up a date for me. Remember? You even arranged for those wealthy women to leave."
Louis's memory clicked. That was the day he drugged Raymond.
That day, Raymond had clearly fallen into the trap, and there was a woman in the room. But Louis had personally searched the entire place, including the bathroom, and found no one.
Louis could never have guessed that the woman was Paige. He thought, 'Is it me who brings Raymond and Paige together? Why was Paige at Windrain Tower, entering Raymond's room?'
Louis clenched his teeth and fists, trying to keep himself from shaking all over. It felt like a mix of infinite rage and regret.
"You..." Louis wanted to say something but ended up saying nothing.
Raymond deliberately asked, "What's wrong with us?"
Louis said, "Nothing, it's late. I won't bother you anymore. You should get some rest."
Without waiting for Paige and Raymond to respond, Louis turned and quickly walked out of Willow Crest Estate. Back in his car, Louis quickly started the engine and drove away. After driving a long distance, Louis suddenly slammed on the brakes. So it was him. He had personally pushed the woman he loved, Paige, towards Raymond.
He thought he was the biggest fool in the world. Waiting for Paige for five years, he had ruined it as soon as she got out of prison. If he hadn't drugged Raymond, they wouldn't have had any connection even if Paige had met Raymond.
But it was precisely his actions that brought Paige and Raymond, who were originally strangers, together. Louis dejectedly pounded the steering wheel.
As Louis walked away, Raymond shook his head. "Was it too much of a blow for Louis?"
Paige said, "It's better to clear things up early. He should know the whole story. Five years ago, he chose to sacrifice me for power. Since then, he lost his chance. Since he made us what we are now, whether out of gratitude or other reasons, he should know."
Raymond shrugged slightly. "I hope he's okay."
Paige said, "Call Francesca to have someone pick him up. It's late, and we don't want anything to happen to Louis."
Raymond nodded. "Alright."
Raymond then personally called Francesca. She asked Raymond, "What did you say to Louis? Why is he unsafe while driving? He went to see you tonight to apologize. Raymond, we're all family, aren't we?"
Raymond answered, "We didn't do anything. As for what happened, you can ask Louis. Alright, Francesca, good night."
Before Francesca could say anything more, Raymond had already hung up. As Paige walked upstairs, she said, "Maybe you could be a bit more polite when talking to Francesca."
Raymond said, "I am polite. It's just that she's always thinking about how to secure Louis's position from me. I never tried to take over Hawke Corporation. Moreover, to give Louis more time, I even stayed in a wheelchair for two extra years. Now I have no choice but to stand up under such urgent circumstances."
Paige said, "I hope they all stay safe tonight." Paige and Raymond had a clear conscience.
As soon as Paige finished speaking, Pearl suddenly ran over. "Xanthe, something big has happened!"
