Chapter 294 Take Her Life
Francesca wasn't a fool; she wouldn't easily admit to anything.
Even if she did have the intention to kill Mrs. Parker, she wouldn't say it outright.
Paige was also very clear that this was her only chance.
Raymond no longer tried to dissuade her. If Paige wanted to uncover the truth, he had to accompany her.
No matter what she wanted to do or how she wanted to do it, Raymond had to be by her side.
Pearl and Amelia arrived early the next morning. Although this trip was for business, Amelia was the most excited about getting out and going to the border.
After all, it meant not having to work for several days, and she was also very curious about what would happen to Xena in the end. For so many years, Xena had been flaunting her status in Northwind.
This trip was probably the final chapter of her life!
Amelia felt quite lucky to be able to witness Xena's last moments.
However, despite her excitement, Amelia didn't dare to show it too obviously.
After all, Paige was going for revenge, not for fun. Her excitement was completely out of sync with Paige's mood.
From the moment she woke up, Paige listened to Pearl report on what they had packed.
Everything at the company had been arranged, and they would fly out on time. Paige's plan could then begin. "Actually, there's no need to bring so much stuff."
Pearl said, "Ms. Ellison, the weather over there changes a lot, so I packed plenty of clothes. Mainly, if you buy things over there, you won't find what you like to wear. It's too backward; you probably wouldn't like it."
Paige was no longer the little girl from the countryside. Everything she wore or used was exquisite, luxurious, and expensive.
Even when going out, Pearl put a lot of thought into these aspects. She was Paige's all-around assistant, considering every detail.
After a simple breakfast, Paige called Francesca. Francesca was very willing to travel with Paige and had packed her bags the night before, waiting for Paige's call to head straight to the airport to meet her.
At the airport, Paige indeed saw that Francesca was punctual.
No matter what Francesca was up to, as long as she came, Paige could get the answers she wanted.
Pearl had booked the entire first-class cabin, so there were no other passengers around.
Louis had been quiet since boarding the plane. It was clear that he didn't want to come. He looked like he had been dragged onto the plane, his face sour.
Raymond understood Louis's feelings, but he stayed by Paige's side the whole time, sitting as far away from Louis and Francesca as possible.
Francesca, unable to do anything, casually picked up a book to pass the time on the plane.
Francesca knew Louis was worried about her safety on this trip.
But Francesca had no such concerns.
She had already sent people ahead to find an opportunity to take Xena's life. However, due to the complex situation, they hadn't succeeded yet.
After learning about the trip yesterday, Francesca had sent people ahead.
The two bodyguards she brought today were from the family who could help with luggage and such. Important matters were naturally not entrusted to them.
Paige kept an eye on her phone, monitoring Xena's movements.
The handover was imminent. Xena, under Quentin's control, was about to be freed.
But before her release, her days were far from easy.
In the past ten days, she had been beaten, starved, soaked in saltwater pools, and even had several scars on her face.
Raymond, sitting next to Paige, glanced at her phone screen and almost didn't recognize Xena.
Xena looked completely different, no longer resembling her former dignified self.
She looked extremely pitiful!
Raymond merely said, "They went easy on her."
Paige said, "I want her alive. She still has things I want to know, so she's lucky."
Otherwise, Xena would have died.
Paige wouldn't spare her, and Quentin wouldn't show any mercy either.
Raymond glanced at Francesca and thought, 'This was all thanks to Francesca. Xena probably knew that Paige wanted to know what Francesca had done, and only Xena had seen it. So Paige had no choice but to keep her alive.'
Francesca seemed to sense the gaze and looked back.
Paige casually said, "Raymond, why do I feel like you're hiding something from me?"
Raymond said, "It's just your imagination, Paige. You've been too sensitive lately."
Paige put away her phone. "You're right, I've been too tired lately. Ever since I caught that cold, I've been feeling very sleepy. I'll nap on you for a bit; wake me before we land."
Raymond nodded and adjusted his position to make Paige more comfortable.
Perhaps because she felt protected, Paige slept very soundly.
Raymond also felt that Paige had been sleeping too well lately as if she was truly exhausted and needed rest.
After Paige fell asleep, Francesca came over after a while.
Francesca asked with concern, "Is Paige okay?"
Raymond replied, "She's just sleeping."
Raymond's tone was cold, and he looked at Francesca with suspicion. Her recent attention to Paige made him uncomfortable.
It felt like being watched, waiting for the right moment to strike.
Francesca didn't care about Raymond's coldness. As long as Paige had no objections, she wouldn't be harmed.
Before the plane landed, Raymond gently woke Paige.
Before landing, Paige checked her phone again for updates on Xena.
Quentin had personally picked up Xena and was preparing to take her to the border to meet Paige.
After getting off the plane, Paige called Quentin.
Since the airport was still a long drive from the border, Quentin's timing was perfect.
On the way, the group chose a well-reviewed place to eat.
The only person not in the mood to eat was Francesca.
After just a few bites of lunch, she excused herself, claiming to be airsick, and returned to the car early.
Once in the car, Francesca told the bodyguards to wait outside. She closed the car door and dialed a number on her phone.
The call connected quickly, and Francesca's voice carried a hint of severity, "What's the situation now?"
A man's voice came from the other end, "We've already caught up with the car ahead. Don't worry, ma'am, we'll take care of the problem on the road."
Francesca took a deep breath, "It's the last few hours. If Xena is sent alive to Paige, you can send your heads to me. Think about it. How many days has it been, and you still can't handle this? Useless!"
Her tone grew colder, exuding a queen-like authority, completely different from her usual self.
The person on the other end sensed Francesca's dwindling patience and immediately responded, "We're ready. Once we're on the road, Xena won't cross the border alive!"
Francesca's tone relaxed, "Good."
After hanging up, she lowered the car window, and as it came down, she was almost startled out of her seat.
Louis's face was pressed right against the window.
Francesca's heart raced. She wasn't sure if Louis had heard anything.
Louis, seeing Francesca's guilty expression, frowned, "Mom, why are you so nervous?"
Francesca said, "What are you doing here? Where are the bodyguards?"
Louis replied, "I sent them to eat. Mom, what were you talking about just now? What are you planning to do?"
Francesca was taken aback, thinking, 'Did Louis hear?'
She had been too careless. Having bodyguards stand guard wasn't foolproof.
Francesca tried to cover up, "Nothing, just some things that needed to be sorted out since we left so suddenly."
She didn't know how much Louis had heard, but he probably wouldn't expose her.
Even if Louis didn't agree with her actions, he wouldn't betray her.
Francesca was just relieved that it was Louis who heard and not someone else. Otherwise, it would have been a real problem.
Louis hadn't heard much, and the car's soundproofing was excellent. So even if he was suspicious, he couldn't do anything about Francesca.
Louis tried to persuade her again, "Mom, did you see?"
Francesca, "See what?"
Louis, "How many people Paige brought? Her subordinate Julian is a strong fighter. She brought so many people, and she's still holding a grudge over what you did last time. This time, she insisted on coming with you. What do you think that means? Can't we just sit this out?"
Louis wasn't sure if Francesca would take action again, but seeing her make a call away from everyone, he knew it was significant.
He also knew that even if he asked now, Francesca wouldn't tell him anything.
All he could do was remind her repeatedly.
Francesca smiled faintly, "Louis, all I want to do is protect you in my lifetime. Trust me, everything I do is not to harm you."
Louis wanted to ask more, but Francesca patted him and said, "They're coming."
This topic was not suitable to continue.
Paige got in and noticed Francesca didn't look well, as if she hadn't rested properly for a long time.
The fatigue was evident, but she still maintained her composure and smile.
Over the years, Francesca had undoubtedly become a qualified high-society lady.
No matter her state, she could always control her emotions.
Unfortunately, the surveillance was destroyed. If Paige had installed cameras in the hospital room, she could have seen Francesca's expression when facing Luna. "Francesca, eating so little, can your body handle it? You didn't eat on the plane either."
Francesca said, "I'm fine, just not used to being out. You know, I usually travel to places with good environments."
The border was indeed backward.
Paige said, "Francesca, I'm sorry to put you through this, but our journey will end soon. Are you okay now?"
Francesca checked the time. Her people should be able to act on Xena's route.
She smiled and nodded.
Originally, Paige and Raymond were in the front car, and Francesca and Louis in another.
But now Paige peeked into the car and suddenly said, "This car is quite spacious. Raymond, let's ride with Francesca and Louis."
Raymond was taken aback and was about to say he didn't want to ride with Francesca. But Paige had already opened the door and got in.
Raymond couldn't leave Paige alone with Francesca, so he followed her in.
Francesca was stunned.
She knew that once Paige set off, she would stay in constant contact with the people escorting Xena.
And she needed to stay in touch with her people to control the situation.
Now that Paige was in her car, Paige could openly contact her people.
But she couldn't command her side under Paige's watchful eye.
Out of her control, she couldn't get updates immediately.
Francesca even worried she couldn't tell her subordinates she wouldn't be able to take calls.
Paige sat right next to Francesca and deliberately asked, "Francesca, what's wrong? You seem nervous."
Sure enough, Francesca was nervous.
But she had to act nonchalant, "Nothing, just wondering if it's too crowded with all of us in one car."
Paige said, "Not at all. This car is spacious. Unless, Francesca, you don't want to ride with me."
Francesca tried to sound casual, "Of course not. As long as you don't feel crowded."
Paige smiled faintly, already forming her plan.
