Chapter 220 Running Away with the Money
Luna's check-up went off without a hitch, and all the numbers were good for surgery. Paige let out a big sigh of relief; finally, some good news.
The next day, Louis had his physical. Afterward, Paige sat down with the doctor to go over the surgery plan.
While looking through Louis's medical reports, Paige noticed he had a rare blood type too. But Paige wasn't shocked. Raymond had told her before that Louis had the same blood type, and they always had each other's backs. When Paige was eight, Louis was supposed to donate blood to Raymond. But Louis had vanished back then, so they had to ask the Sackler family for help.
After wrapping up the surgery plan, Paige left the ward. Suddenly, she had a thought and turned back. "Do you still have Xena's last blood type data? I'd like to check it."
The doctor printed out the info and handed it to her. The hospital just needed to wait for the surgery now, so no big worries. But Paige knew she had to dig deeper into Xena's situation.
Margaret asked the hospital to pull the surveillance footage. Even though Xena had changed her look completely, Margaret still spotted her with Elijah.
Even though Xena left with Elijah, who she trusted, Margaret was still super worried after a whole day and night with no news. Sitting at the head of the table, Margaret tried to get Elijah to spill the beans."I'll take you there. I can't reach her by phone, but she'd call me if she needed to. Still, I'm really worried without hearing from her." Elijah had no choice but to take Margaret to the hotel where Xena had stayed the day before. But when they got there, Elijah found out Xena had checked out the day before.
Now, Elijah had no idea where Xena was. Margaret was devastated. Elijah had to help Margaret out of the hotel because she was so shaken she could barely walk.
Elijah kept saying, "I really didn't think Xena would leave so suddenly. If I'd known, I wouldn't have let her stay there alone. But don't worry, I'll get all my friends to help find her right away." Elijah was terrified something bad had happened to Xena; if it had, he'd feel responsible.
While Margaret and Elijah were freaking out about Xena, Xena had spent a ton of money to disguise herself and sneak back into the Sackler Group.
Xena's disappearance was only known within the Sackler family. So, no one at the company was surprised to see her.
Xena didn't have her own office because Margaret usually guided her. So, Margaret's office was basically hers too. When she walked into Margaret's office, no one even batted an eye.
Xena sat in Margaret's chair and easily accessed the accounts on her computer. She called in the finance team and some project managers. Using Margaret's seal, she pulled all the company's liquid assets and project funds back into the account, then smoothly transferred the money into her own account.
This was the fifty million dollars she and Margaret had gotten from Raymond. But in just a few days, ten million had already been used to cover gaps. After that, Xena quickly packed up and left the Sackler Group.
When Margaret found out Xena had drained all the funds from the company account, she fainted right in Xena's hospital room while waiting for her. Since it happened at the hospital, Paige got the news pretty fast.
Julian's team had been keeping an eye on the Sackler Group. They noticed right away when Xena showed up at the company.
Actually, Paige heard about it even before Margaret did. She was already telling her team to keep a close watch on Xena to make sure she didn't slip away.
Amelia walked in with the latest update. "Guess what? Mrs. Sackler just fainted in Xena's hospital room. The doctors rushed in and saved her, so she's okay now."
Pearl chimed in, "Looks like Xena showing up has something to do with Mrs. Sackler's sudden collapse."
Paige stayed calm. "I've got people keeping a close eye on Xena. Find a way to check the Sackler Group's accounts. If you can, figure out why Xena went there today."
Xena had disappeared on purpose and went back to the Sackler Group instead of going home. Paige had a hunch about her intentions but needed to confirm it.
A few minutes later, Pearl rushed up to Paige and said, "Xena's gone nuts! She pulled all the available funds from the Sackler Group, transferring forty million dollars to her account."
Paige stood up and shouted towards the door, "Julian!"
When Julian came in, Paige immediately instructed, "Have your people keep a close watch on Xena. If she tries to run, let me know and stop her right away."
Julian turned to make arrangements, and Raymond also stood up and asked, "Why would Xena take all the money and try to escape?"
Paige took a deep breath. "It seems Xena indeed plans to escape.. But we can't let her get away with it!"
Amelia asked, "Just because you beat her up, she wants to escape? Isn't that a bit much? Why would she ditch the company when the Sackler Group still has some good projects?"
Pearl sneered, "The Sackler Group's been going downhill, but it still has a shot at bouncing back. They've kept their old industries. With some careful management, they could turn things around. Is Xena really willing to give up being Ms. Sackler?"
This time, it hit the mark. Paige smiled slightly. "Ms. Sackler of the Sackler family, such a prestigious title. Now, she doesn't even want that and just wants to run with the money. Looks like my hunch was spot on!"
Raymond asked, "What's your hunch? Is there something else going on?"
Paige said, "Don't worry, when Xena really tries to escape, I'll have the evidence. Then we'll know the truth."
Even though the truth hadn't come out yet, Paige had a plan. She knew that once everything was clear, it would be a fatal blow to Margaret. That was exactly what she wanted, so she would wait for the right moment to act.
Paige's intention was clear—use Xena's situation to completely retaliate against Margaret. After saying this, Paige added, "Maybe this time, the Sackler Group's luck has really run out!"
Paige didn't plan to say more, and Raymond didn't push it. The others naturally didn't dare to ask more.
On the other side, when Margaret woke up and saw herself lying on the hospital bed, she was so agitated she wanted to get up. The Trump family members were also by her side. Elijah opened his mouth but didn't know what to say.
Margaret asked, "Where's Xena? Has she come back?"
Elijah replied honestly, "We still can't reach Xena."
