Chapter 299 Action, How Could It Be You?
Last time, to avoid involving Louis in the scheme, Francesca specifically drugged and took him away.
But this time, does Francesca want Louis to be part of the plan?
What kind of secret would make Francesca willing to sacrifice Louis to achieve her goal?
Paige wasn't confused, rather, she increasingly believed what Xena had said was true. Francesca really wanted to kill her mom.
Raymond understood the gravity of the situation. He had originally brought Francesca to warn her, but it turned out Francesca was even more eager to act than Paige.
"I'll have someone keep an eye on her. We can't let her cause any more trouble."
If Francesca succeeded, Paige would definitely be upset. If Paige was unhappy, Raymond wouldn't be happy either.
So, Raymond absolutely couldn't let Francesca succeed.
Paige, on the other hand, was much more relaxed. This time, she had made thorough preparations and wouldn't be easily distracted. Did Francesca think it would be that easy to plot something under her watch?
Paige, unhurried and said, "Mr. Raymond, ensure that your people interfere. This is our homeland, but the border of the Northern Country. When it's time to eat, I have my arrangements."
"Aren't you afraid something might go wrong?"
"If something goes wrong, only those who deserve to die will die. Don't worry, it's no big deal."
Since Paige said so herself, Raymond didn't interfere.
After all, Quentin's people would be more helpful here.
Everyone was resting in their rooms. Pearl and Amelia seemed to be purely on vacation.
Although the Northern Country was known to be dark and dangerous, traveling with Paige, along with the protection of someone like Quentin, one can rest assured of safety. The place they were staying was guarded by Quentin's people from all sides.
Moreover, Quentin was quite genuine-not only did he bring along a chef, but he also brought a lot of local fruits.
Pearl and Amelia were having a great time eating in their room.
When it was time for dinner, the two both preferred not to go out to eat.
They called Paige to inform her. Upon hearing it, Paige didn't impose and directly had dinner sent to their room.
Originally, Francesca was supposed to come out for dinner, but when she heard that Pearl and Amelia were dining in their room, she immediately decided to follow suit.
So, at dinner time, besides Quentin, only Paige and Raymond were at the table.
Seeing the large spread of dishes, Quentin was surprised: "Ms. Ellison, why aren't your family and friends who came with you joining us for dinner?"
Paige didn't mind, she smiled and said, "My two friends prefer to dine in their room. As for my family, my sister-in-law seems to be feeling a bit unwell, making it unconvenient for her to come out for dinner. Her son is taking care of her."
Quentin nodded and personally poured a glass of wine for both Paige and Raymond.
Paige: "Since Pearl and Amelia aren't coming, I'll call Julian to join us for dinner."
As she spoke, Paige had already dialed Julian's number.
Julian was a bit surprised, but since Paige invited him to dinner, he agreed without hesitation.
To get to the dining room, Julian had to pass by Francesca's room.
When Louis saw Julian by the bed, he immediately turned and said, "Mom, it looks like Julian is heading to the dining room. Could he be going to have dinner?"
Hearing this, Francesca immediately got up and looked out the window.
Then, Francesca smiled slightly. "Great, the hardest person to deal with around Paige is Julian. As long as he's not around, it will be much easier. I was worried that with him there, you wouldn't have a chance to act. I didn't expect he would go to have dinner with Paige."
Louis asked, "When should I act?"
Francesca looked at her watch and then at the sky. "Wait a bit longer, no rush. They won't finish eating quickly. We can solve the problem in ten minutes. The darker it gets, the more advantageous it is for us."
Although Louis had agreed to help Francesca, he couldn't help but ask upon hearing this. "The night Mrs. Parker died, did you also act under the cover of darkness?"
As soon as he said this, the atmosphere between them instantly froze.
Francesca adjusted her breathing to avoid losing her temper.
"Louis, do you really have to talk to me like that?"
Francesca had the words "I didn't want to kill Mrs. Parker" on the tip of her tongue but swallowed them back down.
Forget it, let Louis think she wants to kill Luna.
At this moment, Louis probably already believes she was involved in Luna's murder.
Explaining now might not make him believe her and could make things worse.
Francesca still needed his help and didn't want any complications at this point.
Louis knew his words had probably hurt Francesca, but he was about to become an accomplice, and his feelings turned complicated.
Louis suddenly said, "Let me handle this. I mean, let me do everything. You don't interfere, don't get involved. If you don't want endless wars with Paige, let me take care of it."
Francesca's expression turned serious. "Louis, you..."
"You're my mom. Whether you kill or I kill, there's no difference. I need to go and keep an eye on things to find the right moment. You stay in the room and don't come out."
After saying that, Louis opened the door and walked out. After a few steps, he turned back and walked straight to the untouched food that had been delivered to the room under Francesca's watchful eyes. He grabbed some before leaving again.
Francesca stood there, taking a deep breath and closing her eyes. She wasn't sure if Louis could handle it in the end.
But if Louis could handle it, the nature of the situation would be completely different.
At least, it wouldn't be as severe as if she had taken action herself.
After leaving, Louis walked straight to the room where Xena was being held.
He had already seen Xena being taken inside.
Louis held a tray in his hand, with the poison Francesca gave him tightly gripped underneath. A single sprinkle towards the guards would render them incapacitated in three seconds.
It was dinner time, and the guards wouldn't be changing shifts.
Louis knew this was his best chance.
As he approached, the guards immediately stopped him: "Mr. Carnegie, Ms. Ellison has instructed that no one is to come near here."
Louis: "Ms. Ellison asked me to bring food to the person inside. If you don't believe me, you can call her now."
As Louis spoke, he kept moving forward.
The guards, aware of the previous incident at the hospital, didn't dare to relax.
As for Louis, he had arrived with no intention of missing his mark.
As he moved closer, one guard reached out to stop him, and another quickly approached.
With a flip of his hand, Louis dropped the tray, and as the guards' attention shifted slightly, he sprinkled the poison on them.
Perhaps he had some spy potential; despite a slight panic, his actions were precise.
As he sprinkled the poison, Louis silently counted: one, two, three.
The two guards fell to the ground.
Louis didn't waste any time and rushed into the room. The noise of the guards falling had already alerted the other guards, who were quickly approaching.
Louis didn't have much time.
But he had thought it through. According to Francesca's plan, it might be more thorough, and the success rate would be higher with two people working together.
However, if Francesca participated in this assassination, it would have been problematic.
But if he could get to Xena alone and kill her, it would be a success!
Louis rushed into the room, and his target was right in front of him, a person tied up and thrown on the ground, wearing tattered floral clothes with a black hood over her head.
Louis's heart was racing. He thought, since she had a hood on, he wouldn't have to see her eyes, which wouldn't be too cruel.
After all, they had known each other!
Louis took out the short military knife he had prepared, gripping it tightly. He glanced back at the door; the heavy footsteps of the guards were almost at the door. Louis had no more time to think.
Although he had never done such a thing, he knew how much trouble Xena would cause if she stayed alive. So, without any hesitation, he aimed the knife at Xena's neck.
But in the next second, the person who seemed to be tied up on the ground suddenly stood up, flipped over, and kicked Louis's hand, sending the knife flying into the wooden floor.
The person in front of him reached out and grabbed Louis's wrist with a skillful move, causing Louis to scream in pain as he felt his wrist dislocate.
Before he could react, the person removed the hood.
In that instant, Louis was stunned. His mouth dropped open, and he couldn't even feel the pain in his hand. He just gazed vacantly at the person in front of him.
Lious stammered, "How could it be you?"
