Chapter 235 Francesca
After saying her piece, Paige shot a quick look at Oliver. When she was roughing up Lily, Oliver was trying to make some noise, even though it was barely a whisper.
Once they were out of the basement, Paige glanced back. "This spot's pretty solid. Outsiders would have a tough time finding it."
Raymond nodded. "They've got crucial info on them. This place is the safest bet. Even though we are in the country,, we can't ignore the chance of outside forces sneaking around Northwind. That fortune's just too tempting."
Paige eyed Raymond. She'd always dodged talking about the secret funds with him. But now, with the need to get info from Oliver and Lily, a serious chat was inevitable.
Paige had a hunch that Raymond knew she was after that stash from the start. Plus, he seemed aware of her early searches at Carnegie Manor. But Paige really didn't want to dig up that awkward topic.
She kept quiet, and Raymond never pushed. He helped her into the car, buckled her seatbelt, shut the door, and then hopped into the driver's seat.
Just as they were about to leave, Raymond asked, "Where to next?" Paige wanted to visit Luna at the hospital, but Margaret was probably there too, and she'd definitely be a hassle.
Luna was in and out of consciousness, and Paige didn't want any drama affecting her. The surgery was coming up, and Paige wanted to keep things calm. The hospital could wait. Everything was set up fine. Even if Paige didn't go, there was no need to stress.
Paige said, "It's been a while since I saw Dad. How about we go back for a family dinner?" After that wedding fiasco, Raymond had stuck by her side, probably without clearing things up with Ethan.
With Louis about to donate a kidney to Luna, Ethan was likely still worried. There was a lot to handle, and it was best to tackle things one at a time.
Paige suggested heading to Carnegie Manor to see Ethan, and Raymond was on board. He smiled. "Sure, let's go back for dinner. I'll have the restaurant whip up more of your favorites."
Given Ethan's affection for Paige, he had long instructed the restaurant staff on her favorite foods.Their visit would definitely make him happy.
Sure enough, when Ethan got the heads-up, he eagerly told Sean to keep an eye on the restaurant. But it wasn't just Ethan who knew about their dinner plans. Francesca had been crashing at Carnegie Manor for the past few days.
She'd been trying to talk Louis out of donating his kidney to Luna, but he wouldn't budge. With no other options, Francesca stayed at the manor, hoping Ethan could sort it out. But even after moving in, she hadn't made much headway.
Hearing that Paige and Raymond were coming for dinner, Francesca immediately perked up. Maybe she could use this chance to change things up.
When Paige and Raymond's car pulled up to Carnegie Manor, Francesca was more excited than Ethan to greet them. "Raymond, Paige, you're back!"
Paige was caught off guard seeing Francesca. She hadn't known Francesca was there when she called earlier. So, she could only muster a reluctant, "Francesca."
Paige knew Francesca wasn't thrilled about Louis donating a kidney to Luna. Francesca was probably at the manor because of that. Facing Francesca, Paige felt a bit guilty.
No matter what, Louis was Luna's only hope right now. If he refused to donate, Luna might not make it until another match was found. This was too important for Paige.
Francesca said, "Paige, it's still early. I just made some tea. How about we sit and chat?"
Since she was already there, Paige couldn't find an excuse to leave. She reluctantly nodded. "Okay."
Francesca led Paige to Ethan, who sighed lightly. He knew what Francesca was thinking, but seeing Paige looking a bit uneasy, he decided to change the subject to make her more comfortable. "Paige, it's been a while since you came home. Last time you mentioned divorcing Raymond, it really scared me."
Paige quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, Dad. We shouldn't have kept it from you. But those two weren't easily fooled, so we didn't tell anyone."
Ethan didn't blame them. Instead, he reassured her, "As long as you two are okay, I'm happy. We're family, no need to apologize. Let's drop it."
Paige nodded and smiled. Raymond chimed in, "It was my fault. It was my idea."
Ethan glanced at Raymond. "How could I blame Paige? If anyone's to blame, it's you."
It seemed like this topic was going to drag on, and Francesca started to get anxious. So she jumped in, "Have some tea."
Francesca handed out tea to everyone. Although she and Raymond were of the same generation, Francesca was much older, almost old enough to be Paige's mother.
Normally, Francesca wouldn't serve tea to Paige and Raymond. But today was different. When Paige took the cup, Francesca steered the conversation back to Luna, "How's your mom doing these days?"
Paige thought, 'Here we go again.' But she couldn't dodge the question. She nodded. "My mom's health is pretty good."
Francesca sighed. "Now that Louis is grown, he doesn't listen to me. By the way, since your mom's health is pretty good, can't you wait a bit longer? Louis is still so young, he hasn't even gotten married or had kids yet."
Paige held her breath, unsure how to respond. She understood Francesca's feelings. As a daughter, she desperately wanted Luna to get a healthy kidney. As a mother, Francesca didn't want Louis to donate a healthy kidney and risk his future.
