Chapter 229 Stay Away, My Name is Xanthe
Paige was the one who struggled the most with this revelation. She never imagined that she was the true and only heir of the Sackler family!
Margaret approached her again, eyes full of guilt. But Paige kept backing away until she had nowhere left to go. Suddenly, she snapped, "Stop! Stay right there!" Paige pointed to the spot where Margaret stood, her tone icy.Margaret stood there, weak and dazed, her eyes locked on Paige, as if she had much to say. But Paige only said, "Mrs. Sackler, you'd better not come any closer. Don't forget, my name is Xanthe."
She was no longer part of the Sackler family. Even if Margaret's eyes were filled with regret and guilt, and even if there was a blood connection, Paige's heart had long turned cold. She had never felt any familial affection for Margaret, only a continuous surge of hatred.
After many years of abandonment in the countryside and five years in prison, Paige had always longed to return to Luna. Yet, she was constantly exploited, undermined, and oppressed. Now, they were telling her it was all a mistake. Paige would never accept such a result. Even if there was a blood relation, she and Margaret could never be family.
Margaret looked at Paige with eyes full of pain. "It's my fault. I didn't know those traffickers were so vicious, causing so many accidents between us. Paige, you are not Xanthe, you are the child of the Sackler family, my biological granddaughter," Margaret said, already in tears. She didn't even dare to recall the things she had done to Paige.
Paige looked at her, her voice cold, her attitude even colder. "That's enough! This performance should end here. Mrs. Sackler, please remember my current identity. I am Xanthe, the CEO of the Universe Group, and I have nothing to do with the Sackler family."
After saying this, Paige turned and left, making an order, "The lab will no longer accept any outside visitors. Show them out!"
Paige emphasized the word "outside," making it clear she wanted no connection with Margaret. Margaret naturally understood. But the more she understood, the more heartbroken she felt.
In an instant, Margaret couldn't support herself anymore. Her body stiffened, her eyes rolled back, and she fainted. The lab staff didn't dare to take action. The Trump family members, under this situation, had no choice but to call an ambulance and send Margaret back to the hospital.
As the Trump family members were leaving, they also took the crazed Xena with them. After all, Xena was still connected to the Sackler Group's forty million dollars. Even if she was crazy, that forty million dollars had to be retrieved from Xena!
After everyone had left, Paige's face turned pale, and she almost lost her balance. Fortunately, Raymond was behind her, gently supporting her waist. He asked with concern, "Are you okay?"
Paige lightly held Raymond's hand and said, "I'm fine. Let's go home. I want to rest."
Paige was never one to complain about being tired, but now she said she wanted to rest. Without another word, Raymond took her back to Willow Crest Estate.
Once they got home, Paige stayed in the bedroom while Raymond brought her some water. She took the glass but didn't drink. She suddenly looked up at Raymond and asked, "What do you think about today's events?"
Raymond had been there the whole time and had seen everything unfold. He hadn't expected any of it either. Who would've thought that Margaret, who always denied Paige's identity, would turn out to be her biological grandmother? And it was clear Paige had no love for Margaret.
Paige had been through too much, bullied to the point where she was completely disillusioned and disgusted with Margaret. Raymond got it. Paige had long abandoned her old identity and started a new life as Xanthe.
The only person she cared about was Luna, and now that Luna was with her, there was nothing in the Sackler family that mattered to Paige.
Raymond said softly, "You can do whatever you want. You don't have to accept anything you don't want. If you want, you can legally take back everything that was yours. I support you."
No matter what Paige decided, as her husband, Raymond would stand by her unconditionally. As long as Paige was happy, he'd do anything for her, let alone support her decisions.
Paige finally smiled a little, put down the water glass, and wrapped her arms around Raymond's waist, hugging him tightly.
Raymond's words seemed to heal all of Paige's wounds. He hugged her back. "You've been working hard with both your job and your mom. If you're tired, leave everything to me. You just need to rest."
Paige leaned against Raymond, her head buried in his chest, and said softly, "I can ignore what Xena said today. I don't want to care or respond. But Margaret might continue to annoy me."
It was really annoying. Paige's mind was still filled with Margaret's gaze, which she disliked. How ridiculous! Even when the test results came out, Margaret still called her an illegitimate child.
Raymond understood Paige's feelings very well. "If you don't like it, we can ignore it."
Paige said, "I don't like it, and I don't want to see her again." Paige genuinely didn't want to see Margaret.
Raymond hugged her tighter. "If you don't want to see her, then don't."
Just as he finished speaking, Paige's phone rang. She had forgotten to mute it and picked it up impatiently. Seeing the caller ID, she immediately frowned.
Raymond saw her frown and look pained, so he took the phone from her and hung up. Raymond comforted her, "If it bothers you, avoid it. Hang up calls you don't want to take, and block numbers you don't want to hear from." As he spoke, Raymond blocked the number.
Paige looked up, smiled slightly, and then buried her head in Raymond's chestagain. She turned her head slightly, rubbing against him. It felt nice to have someone to rely on, much better than facing everything alone as she used to.
