Chapter 395 The Killer Pointed Out by the Evidence

The disfigured man was stunned for a few seconds, then looked up at Paige.

He slowly began to speak, "My face is hideous, I have no name or surname. Ms. Ellison, have you also mistaken me for someone else? Just like Mr. Carnegie's unusual behavior earlier?"

Paige didn't want to waste words and directly threw the photo evidence in front of the disfigured man. "I never believe there are many coincidences in this world. An occasional coincidence might be just that, but if too many coincidences come together, it's not a coincidence but a scheme!"

The disfigured man looked at the photo Paige had thrown down.

It was a photo of a car accident scene, with some technical analysis beside it.

The disfigured man stared at the photo, as if he was being pulled back to the accident scene. But realizing Paige was still standing beside him, he quickly gathered his emotions. When he looked up at Paige again, there was a slight smile at the corner of his eyes.

The disfigured man said, "What does Ms. Ellison mean by this? This photo? It looks like a pretty bad accident. With a collision of this magnitude, no one should have survived, right?"

Paige held her breath, suppressing her emotions, and said, "Doesn't it look familiar? The accident scene, and there's another car. Coincidentally, I remember seeing some information, and that car was in it."

The disfigured man lowered his head guiltily but said to Paige. "I don't understand what Ms. Ellison means by telling me this. What does this accident have to do with me? Or are you assuming from the start that this accident is related to me?"

Paige said, "Why did you hide just now? Are you afraid I have evidence? Whether your last name is Sackler or Carnegie, the blood in your veins and your genes are evidence."

Facing the man in front of her, Paige's emotions were complex.

Whether his last name was Sackler or Carnegie, he was an extraordinary figure to Paige.

Steven had once been Paige's father for several years. In Paige's memory, when Steven wasn't so busy with work, he took care of her and Luna as much as he could.

Later, he became so busy that he didn't even have time to come home. Paige didn't know how many things there were to be busy with in the Sackler Group.

After learning about her own background, Paige could imagine that Steven had dealings with Francesca, perhaps conspiring on other ventures together.

As for what those were, Paige wasn't sure.

Later, he learned that Margaret had sent her to the countryside and then rushed back, only to get into a car accident, which made Margaret hate her even more.

But now, seeing this accident scene, Paige was really unsure if Steven was still alive.

But if this man was a Carnegie, Paige didn't know how to face it.

She was too unfamiliar with Gregory; she didn't know him and had no memory of him.

But Gregory held the title of her biological father.

Paige just looked at the man in front of her. Whether he was Steven or Gregory, he was intricately connected to her.

And his actions were incomprehensible to Paige.

If he was Steven, then the kidnapped Margaret was his biological mother!

Teaming up with outsiders to kidnap his own mother was something Paige couldn't understand.

If he was Gregory, then he was teaming up with others to threaten his own daughter.

Even without familial affection, what had she done wrong to make her father treat her so cruelly?

The disfigured man hadn't expected that falling into Paige's hands would lead to such questions.

Yes, he couldn't change his DNA.

Paige could find answers from him.

But despite this, the disfigured man's attitude didn't change at all as he said. "You're too young. Don't let your curiosity harm you. Some things are beyond your capacity to bear. A crown that doesn't belong to you will crush you if you put it on."

Paige asked, "What do you mean? A warning? Or a threat?"

The disfigured man looked up at Paige. "Curiosity killed the cat, you've heard that, right? Does my identity matter to you? But I can advise you, the battles among the five great families are not something you should get involved in. You could easily lose your life."

The disfigured man continued, "The Ellison family's wealth is indeed tempting, and the pinnacle of the five great families' wealth is also tempting. But this is not something an ordinary person should get involved with. Go back to where you belong, be an ordinary person, a daughter of a regular wealthy family, or even stay in the distant countryside. At least that way, your life won't be in danger."

Paige said, "The way you say it, it almost sounds like you're really thinking about me, considering my well-being."

The disfigured man smiled, his disfigured face only slightly curving at the corners of his eyes and mouth. "Sometimes, retreating isn't necessarily a bad thing, is it? Persistence isn't always a good thing either."

Paige said, "I'm different from others. From the moment I was born, I was abandoned by many people including my biological parents. The only person who never abandoned me has passed away. So, the path I choose, no matter what hell awaits me ahead, I will walk it myself."

Paige added, "No one has the right to choose my path for me. Whether the Ellison family is behind me or not, I am extraordinary and will carve out my own place. Since you are unwilling to cooperate, I don't care if your last name is Sackler or Carnegie. Anyone who stands in my way will be treated the same!"

With each cold word from Paige, the smile at the corners of the disfigured man's eyes and mouth gradually disappeared.

He suddenly asked, "Do you hate those who abandoned you?"

Paige retorted, "What do you think?"

The disfigured man said nothing more.

Paige took the car accident photos and information and walked to the side. He was unwilling to cooperate or tell the truth.

So, whether the last name was Sackler or Carnegie, the other party was standing in opposition to her.

Given that, Paige had nothing more to say. Whether it was one enemy or several, it made little difference to her.

The sudden silence made the atmosphere in the room unbearably oppressive.

Paige didn't know if what Raymond had discovered was the same as what she had found. Maybe Raymond could find evidence to prove the man's identity without needing his confession.

Meanwhile, the fact that Raymond was reviewing old records quickly reached Francesca's ears.

Francesca anxiously asked her confidant, "Why on earth is Raymond suddenly looking into old records?"

The confidant answered, "Mrs. Carnegie, Mr. Carnegie might be re-investigating the events of that year."

Francesca frowned, "Where is Rodolfo?"

The confidant said, "Mr. McCoy? He hasn't been seen all day; he might be busy with something else."

Francesca took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. "Is Mr. Carnegie's wife at The Carnegie Estate?"

The confidant said, "It seems she went out."

Francesca nodded. "I'll head back to The Carnegie Estate. Have Rodolfo come pick me up when he returns."

The confidant said, "Yes, ma'am."

Francesca hurried out. When she arrived at The Carnegie Estate, she happened to see Raymond's car about to leave.

Francesca said, "Drive over and block Raymond's car."

At Francesca's command, the driver drove over and blocked Raymond's car.

Francesca got out of her car and walked directly toward Raymond's car.

Seeing Francesca personally come over and block his car, Raymond knew that someone at The Carnegie Estate must have tipped her off about his investigation.

Francesca had been in the Carnegie family for decades and had managed everything quite well.

She had a good reputation among the servants.

Getting someone to tip her off was not difficult at all.

As Francesca approached, Raymond couldn't pretend not to see her. Besides, her car was blocking his, so he couldn't drive away.

So, Raymond simply rolled down the window and asked, "What is it?"

Francesca stood beside the car and asked. "Did you take something?"

Raymond picked up the manila envelope beside him and said. "You mean this? The records from Gregory's car accident?"

Francesca said, "My husband's records were sealed long ago. Raymond, where are you taking them?"

Raymond replied, "Why are you so nervous? Is there something wrong with these records? Back then, many people believed that Gregory's accident was a scheme by me to seize the Carnegie family inheritance."

Raymond added, "These records were sealed later, and I still haven't figured out the suspicious parts. If I were to scrutinize them, I might find that some evidence points not to me, but to you. Could it be that you were the one who harmed Gregory back then? Why? In my memory, your relationship was always good. He even agreed with you to send Paige away. Your marital relationship was exceptionally close. So, why?"

Raymond was straightforward, probably because he knew Francesca couldn't do anything to him.

So, he dared to ask her such direct questions face to face.

Francesca's face turned pale as she stood there looking at Raymond. "Raymond, do you know what you're saying? If you know we had a good relationship, why are you doing such a pointless thing?"

Raymond said, "Because today, a disfigured man appeared, giving me a very familiar feeling. But because his face is completely disfigured, I can't identify who he is. These records might give me some inspiration or answers. I'm sorry, Paige is still waiting for me. Please move your car; I need to leave."

Raymond felt he couldn't understand Francesca anymore.

He used to think she was solely focused on helping Louis rise to power, but after the truth about Louis and Paige's identities was revealed, Francesca's behavior became even more incomprehensible.

Her biological daughter was right in front of her, yet she publicly refused to acknowledge Paige and even avoided her in front of others.

Was Paige so unworthy that she didn't want to acknowledge her as her daughter?

In private, Francesca wanted to acknowledge Paige, but Paige couldn't accept it.

The situation was at a stalemate. Now, as Raymond re-examined those old records, he felt that the accident back then clearly pointed to Francesca as the culprit!

A woman who had killed her husband and abandoned her biological daughter had lived in the Carnegie family for decades, right beside him. Raymond didn't dare to think deeply about it. If he did, he only felt that Francesca was truly ruthless.

How many more secrets she was hiding, Raymond couldn't even begin to know!
