Chapter 389 Trading Clues for Lives
As Paige finished speaking, her hand was already close to touching the man's mask.
She couldn't see the deep look in the eyes behind those sunglasses.
That gaze kept staring at her, as if he had known her for a long time.
But because of the sunglasses, Paige couldn't see the eyes behind them.
Just as she was about to remove the man's mask, he suddenly turned his face to the side.
Paige's hand missed, and she coldly laughed. "Still trying to hide?" With a sneer, Paige forcefully grabbed and removed the man's mask.
But as soon as she removed the mask, her body involuntarily leaned back slightly, and her hand trembled a bit.
"What is this?" she said, removing the man's sunglasses as well.
The man's entire face was then exposed in front of Paige.
It was a face with blurred features, except for a pair of eyes and the original bone structure, the entire skin was covered in scars.
It looked like something had ruined his entire face, making it impossible to recognize anything.
This almost terrifying face, even if it was an acquaintance, would be hard to recognize.
However, when the sunglasses were removed and Paige's eyes met the man's for a moment, her heart skipped a beat.
For some reason, she avoided the man's gaze.
She didn't even know why, as the gaze didn't seem to have any malice, but she was the first to look away.
Perhaps it was because the man's gaze was too direct. He just stared at her, and she couldn't keep looking at him.
But Paige didn't care about the gaze; she got straight to the point. "Where's the stuff?"
The man just stared at Paige without saying a word.
Paige had no patience for this and gave Julian a look.
Julian immediately started searching the man.
After a while, Julian shook his head. "The stuff isn't on him."
Paige's face immediately darkened. Given this man's cunning nature, he must have hidden the clues while escaping.
Without any hesitation, Paige instinctively felt that the stuff was still in the mall and had been hidden by this disfigured man on his escape route.
Raymond had been chasing and blocking the man all the way here, so Raymond should be the one who knew his movements best.
After contacting Raymond, Paige returned to the disfigured man.
The stuff was now being searched for by Raymond, and Paige was more curious about why the man was looking at her with that gaze.
The man's face was disfigured, but judging by his body shape, full head of hair, and the condition of the skin on his hands, he seemed to be in his forties.
However, it was unclear how his facial skin got disfigured, which made him somewhat frightening to look at.
Paige got closer, confirming that among the people she knew, none had a similar body shape to his.
But that gaze made Paige feel uncomfortable.
She got closer to the disfigured man and scrutinized him again.
She asked, "Do you know me?"
The disfigured man didn't speak or show any emotion, just kept staring at Paige.
It was as if he was studying her, sketching her features in detail.
Paige looked down at her own body, finding nothing unusual about her appearance or demeanor that would warrant such scrutiny.
She wondered, "Or does the person who sent you know me?"
The disfigured man still didn't speak.
If he hadn't communicated with Lily earlier, she would have thought he was mute.
Curiosity filled her, but she encountered someone pretending to be mute, and anger surged in Paige's heart. "Stubborn, take him away!"
This place wasn't suitable for her to act. Although it was the terrace outside the mall, their jumps from the second and third floors had already attracted some attention from mall customers.
Paige didn't want to draw more onlookers, so she had her subordinates take the man away.
As Paige was putting the man into the car, Raymond came over with a bag.
Raymond handed the bag to Paige. "I found the stuff."
From the moment Raymond got into the car, the disfigured man had been staring at him.
Paige eagerly took the bag and opened it, while Raymond felt the gaze and looked back at the disfigured man. For a moment, Raymond found the gaze extremely familiar.
That familiarity seemed ingrained in his bones.
It was a familiarity that felt like it had been forged over long years, but with the man's disfigured face, Raymond couldn't immediately recall where it came from.
He didn't have time to delve into that familiarity as Paige had already opened the bag and found the clue inside.
It was a small architectural blueprint that appeared in front of Paige.
At first glance, Paige found the blueprint familiar.
She showed it to Pearl and asked. "Does this look familiar to you?"
Pearl looked at it seriously and suddenly brightened up. "Ms. Ellison, isn't this The Ellison Villa where we used to live?"
With Pearl's reminder, the blueprint became clear to Paige.
"There's a clue to the secret funds in The Ellison Villa? How come I didn't know?" Paige said, looking at the disfigured man.
The disfigured man still didn't speak, like a mute.
Paige coldly laughed. "You're not the real mastermind, are you? You're just following orders, right? There's someone behind you, isn't there?"
Paige's question successfully drew the disfigured man's gaze back to her.
Paige said, "It looks like I guessed right!"
After saying this, Paige immediately turned to Pearl and said, "Spread the word, I have captured a disfigured man. If I don't get what I want in exchange for him within twelve hours, I'll make him disappear from this world!"
Pearl nodded and went to make arrangements.
The disfigured man finally spoke, "I can give you what you want."
Paige said, "What? You're willing to give it to me?"
The disfigured man nodded. "Yes, I can give you the clues to the secret funds. But not to you, to him."
The disfigured man's gaze shifted from Paige to Raymond.
He said the clues were not for Paige, but for Raymond.
Paige said, "You might not know, but he and I are married. Giving it to me or to him is essentially the same."
Disfigured man said, "I didn't say there were no other conditions!"
