Chapter 237 The Person You Least Want to See
When Paige left Willow Crest Estate, she only took the team phone, because she was really afraid that someone from Margaret's side would call again.
Seeing Pearl's name pop up, Paige answered right away. Pearl didn't waste any time. "Ms. Ellison, Mrs. Sackler showed up at Willow Crest Estate. What should we do? Her car's parked at the entrance, door open, and she looks pretty unwell, just sitting there."
Paige frowned. She'd just stepped out for a breather and was on her way back. Taking a deep breath, Paige said, "If she wants to hang out at the entrance, let her. I'm not coming back tonight. Tell her and everyone else that if she's not feeling well, she should leave. We're not responsible for anything that happens."
There was no way Paige was going back to see Margaret. She also made it clear to Pearl and the others not to open the door for Margaret. If anything went wrong, it would be a mess to explain. Paige didn't want any ties with Margaret and was wary of any tricks she might pull.
Now that everyone knew Xena was a fake heir and Paige, the long-criticized illegitimate daughter, was the real deal, Margaret seemed obsessed with family bloodlines. She'd definitely try to get close to Paige.
After giving Pearl her instructions, Paige hung up. She turned to Raymond and said, "We haven't been back to that apartment you traded a villa for in ages, have we?"
Raymond's face lit up. "Yeah, do you want to go? We can head there today if you want."
Paige nodded. "Yeah, let's go."
Raymond quickly mapped out a new route, and they headed back to their old place.
After getting used to the big villa, the apartment felt small, but in a good way. The villa felt too big to manage, but this place gave Paige a cozy, secure feeling.
Even though they didn't stay there often, Raymond had people keep it clean and tidy. The bed linens were always fresh, and the wardrobe had up-to-date seasonal clothes. They could move in right away, super convenient.
Raymond couldn't help but think back to when they first moved in, and Paige would make breakfast and dinner almost every day.
Raymond was picky, but he'd gotten used to Paige's cooking and found it especially tasty. It had been a while since she'd cooked, though.
Paige walked in and headed straight for the hanging chair on the balcony. She sat down, gave it a little swing, and patted the spot next to her, motioning for Raymond to join her.
Raymond poured a glass of water, handed it to Paige, and then sat down next to her. "When the house was just renovated and ready, we got married. To keep up appearances, I took this house. Didn't want to shortchange Charles, so I gave him Mid-hill Villa."
Paige nodded. "Mid-hill Villa's in a prime spot. Good trade."
Raymond grinned. "If you want, I've got plenty of villas you can pick from."
Paige smiled back. "I like Willow Crest Estate. You should stay with me there."
Raymond said, "Wherever you are, that's where I'll be." As a good husband, he'd naturally follow his wife wherever she went.
Paige looked around and said, "I like it here too. If you were just an ordinary guy and I was just a housekeeper, living here and having a simple life would be nice."
Paige had never dared to dream big or think about her future. Her world was small back then. Later, she was sent to an even smaller prison but also entered a larger world.
Raymond said, "If you want a simple life, we can live like that."
Paige laughed. Given who Raymond was, an ordinary life was out of the question. And she, taking the highest position at the Universe Group, was even less likely to have a simple life.
Paige leaned into Raymond's arms. "I'm happy with this simple moment." But just as she said that, there was a knock on the door. Paige lifted her head from Raymond's chest. "Is someone knocking?"
Raymond said, "Sounds like it." They exchanged glances, both puzzled. Another knock followed.
Raymond got up. "I'll check." This was their private spot, and hardly anyone knew about it. Raymond went to the door and frowned. Before opening it, he looked back at Paige.
Paige asked, "What's up?"
Raymond replied, "Someone you don't really want to see."
Paige got up from the hanging chair, furious, and walked straight to the door. Sure enough, seeing the person she least wanted to see on the screen, Paige said in frustration, "How did she find this place?"
Raymond said, "Seems like an ordinary life comes with ordinary problems. This place isn't very private." It was still easy to find. And the Sackler family was a long-established wealthy family, not some small-time rich folks.
Seeing Margaret being supported at the door, Paige felt a headache coming on. Seeing Paige's impatience, Raymond stepped up. "You go to the room; I'll handle this."
