Chapter 191 Hope She Has a Chance for Redemption
As Paige wrapped up her words, she was already heading out the door. Sighing as she walked, she said, "Pearl, I'm starving. Can you set up dinner? And Lincoln's probably eaten by now, right?"
Paige's message was clear: she had no interest in seeing Lincoln, let alone sharing a meal with him.
Lincoln, catching the drift, quickly replied, "Yes, Miss Ellison. Take care."
Paige left with Pearl and Amelia in tow. After a few steps, Amelia couldn't hold back. "You're the CEO of the Universe Group?"
Paige gave a faint smile. "You think I'm faking it?"
Amelia burst out laughing. "No way! I'm so happy, I can barely keep from laughing out loud!"
Meanwhile, Xena and Margaret were sitting in a private room, both looking stunned. It wasn't until the phone rang that they snapped out of it.
Margaret answered call after call, each bringing more bad news. Xena stared at the stock market, listening to updates from her team. "Grandma, how long can we hold on?"
Margaret replied, "If this keeps up, we won't last a day. We need to stabilize things fast, or we're in big trouble!"
Xena asked, "Grandma, what do we do?"
Margaret closed her eyes, still in shock. "How did this happen? How did Paige connect with the Universe Group?"
Margaret said, "We need to get someone to dig into this. What's really going on?"
As Margaret and Xena were talking, Lincoln had already returned. "Xena, what did you do? Xanthe has a terrible first impression of me. Do you know what that means?"
Xena, already upset, couldn't care less about Lincoln. Xena said, "Lincoln, you don't even know who your boss is? What kind of work ethic is that? You've been at the Universe Group for so long and haven't even met your boss?"
Lincoln was furious, and Xena still had the nerve to complain to him. "All these problems are your doing, and now you're blaming me?" After saying this, Lincoln turned and walked away.
Xena stood there, stomping her feet in anger. Lately, her relationship with Lincoln had been pretty ambiguous. She never thought things had gotten that far, yet Lincoln could still just walk away. Now, they had no choice but to go home and figure things out.
On the other side, Pearl picked a top-notch restaurant, booked the best table, and they headed straight there.
Pearl took care of the two while eating and said, "Why do I feel like Amelia is even happier than Xanthe?"
Amelia replied, "Of course, I think we should celebrate with some wine tonight. We'll celebrate first, and then when I get home, I'll celebrate with my family. I want them to remember my smart decision!"
Paige, while eating, said, "Pearl, arrange for someone to keep an eye on the Sackler family members. When the matching results come out tomorrow, I don't want to lose track of them!"
This matter was far from over. As long as the matching results were compatible, Paige could relax a bit but would still have to deal with the Sackler family.
Pearl responded, "Don't worry. I'll have someone keep a close watch on them."
Paige nodded. "That's good."
Amelia added, "I'll call back and push them to get the matching results out ASAP."
Paige said, "I hope Xena gets a chance to make up for Mom."
If Xena could successfully match and save Luna's life, Paige wouldn't mind letting them off the hook. Of course, this all depended on Xena being a match for Luna.
The Sackler family was already in a panic. Since Paige had dumped the Sackler Group's stocks, Margaret's phone hadn't stopped ringing.
Finally fed up, Margaret gave her team a stern order. "Buy back everything that's being sold, no matter the amount. And stop calling me." After saying this, Margaret slumped weakly on the couch.
Xena personally poured a glass of water and handed it to Margaret. "Grandma, don't worry. Things will work out. Tomorrow, we'll transfer funds from the domestic accounts, and we'll get through this crisis."
Xena was still too optimistic. If it were any other company, Margaret would cut her losses instead of investing more. But Paige knew the Sacklers well; she targeted the one industry they couldn't abandon.
Things escalated quickly, and Margaret had no time to react. She could see it would be worse than she imagined. Now, she held a glass of water but couldn't take a sip.
