Chapter 250 That Piercing and Mournful Cry of 'Mom'

Paige's heart sank. But then, the next words hit her like a ton of bricks.

The head doctor, after what felt like forever, finally said, "I'm sorry, Ms. Ellison. We did everything we could, but the poison spread too fast. We couldn't save your mom."

Those words just kept bouncing around in Paige's head, and she felt like her mind was in a blender. The doctors in front of her started to blur, and every word about Luna's death seemed to echo over and over. Paige was a mess, barely able to stand.

Raymond was stunned when he heard the news, but he snapped out of it when he saw Paige about to collapse. He rushed to support her, and that seemed to bring her back to reality a bit.

Behind her, Amelia and Pearl were just as shocked. Luna had been doing okay, and she was supposed to have surgery tomorrow. If she got through that, she could've had a lot more time with Paige. But now, she was just... gone.

Amelia and Pearl looked at each other, then at Paige. They were both worried about her.

Paige felt like she was falling apart. She stayed quiet for a long time, trying to pull herself together. The medical staff just stood there, not sure what to do.

Paige finally asked, "What did you say about my mom earlier?" It seemed like she hadn't really heard the doctor. So, the head doctor had to explain again. They did everything they could, but Luna was gone.

The doctor tried to comfort her, "Your mom didn't respond to the resuscitation. She's passed away, Ms. Ellison. We're very sorry."

This time, Paige heard it loud and clear. She closed her eyes tight, her face twisted in pain, and tears just poured down. She took deep breaths, feeling like her heart was being squeezed. When she opened her eyes, they were full of pain and despair.

Like a madwoman, Paige ran towards the emergency room, with Raymond right behind her, not daring to leave her side. The others followed too.

Not far away, Margaret had been watching the whole thing, super anxious. She couldn't hear what the doctor said, but she saw them shaking their heads at Paige. Something was definitely wrong. Margaret nudged Caleb, "Go find out what's happening."

As everyone headed into the emergency room, Margaret moved closer too. Caleb went to talk to the doctors and found out that Luna had passed away.

When Margaret heard the news from Caleb, she felt like she couldn't breathe. "How could this happen? Paige hired the best people to take care of her. Everything was set, and the surgery was scheduled for tomorrow. How could she just... die? My poor Paige, how is she going to handle this?"

Tears filled Margaret's eyes. She knew Luna was the only family Paige really cared about. Margaret had felt that gut-wrenching pain of losing someone she loved too many times. She knew she had to stay strong, but it was so hard.

As she got to the emergency room door, Margaret hesitated. She didn't dare go in. No matter what, she was partly to blame for this. If she had treated Luna properly five years ago, Luna would have recovered instead of ending up like this. It was her fault for listening to Xena and trying to control Paige.

Margaret's steps faltered, and tears streamed down her face. But she didn't have time to think before she heard a heart-wrenching cry from inside the emergency room.

Paige had entered the emergency room and saw the bed covered with a white sheet. Her hands shook as she slowly lifted it. Underneath, Luna's face was pale and haggard. Despite the doctors' and nurses' efforts to clean her up, some bloodstains still showed. Luna's death had been painful and bloody.

The bed was covered in dark bloodstains that hadn't been cleaned up. Paige stared blankly for a few seconds before lunging forward, hugging Luna's lifeless body, and crying out in despair, "Mom." The cry echoed as Paige wept uncontrollably.

Raymond stood by Paige's side. No matter how powerful he was, there was nothing he could do. He couldn't stop Paige from grieving; all he could do was stand silently by her side. Everyone else stood quietly, mourning.

With Paige's heart-wrenching cry of "Mom," she finally broke down completely. The only sound in the emergency room was Paige's heartbroken sobbing as she held Luna's body.

Paige didn't know how long she had been crying. It must have been a while because Raymond finally came up to support her shoulders.

Exhausted and tearless, Paige collapsed into Raymond's arms. Kimberly then approached, bowed respectfully before Luna's body, and gently draped the white cloth back over it.

Raymond softly comforted Paige, "Mom wouldn't want to see you in so much pain. Be strong, so she can rest in peace."

Paige looked up, her eyes red and swollen from crying, staring at Raymond. Paige was still Paige. Even though she was in immense pain, she hadn't been defeated.

She was so distraught she could barely stand, but she still managed to hold on. Her face was pale and haggard, but she asked Raymond, "The three most important things next. Are you with me on all of them?"
