Chapter 192 Hold the Wedding First
Margaret let out a heavy sigh. "There's no other way around it. We all know what she's after."
The Sackler family might scrape through tonight, but tomorrow's market crash could be a different story. Funds were tight, and the losses were massive. Covering them seemed almost impossible. If donating a kidney could save the Sackler Group, Xena would eventually agree to it. "Grandma, don't worry. The matching results will be out tomorrow. If there's a match, I'll donate my kidney to Mom right away. The Sackler family will get through this crisis soon."
Margaret cupped Xena's face, her voice tinged with sadness. "I know you're a good kid, but trading your kidney for all this isn't worth it. We build this family business for you."
Xena suddenly spoke up, "Grandma, have you noticed something off about this?"
Margaret asked, "You mean Paige's identity?"
Xena nodded. "Yeah, we know her better than anyone. She was in prison for five years. How did she become the CEO of the Universe Group after getting out?"
Margaret found it odd too. "We need to dig deeper. Paige already has a grudge against us, and it won't end well."
Xena suggested, "We need to find someone to investigate who's backing Paige. Maybe the person behind her is being deceived too."
Margaret was exhausted; she had a lot to handle in the stock market tonight. When the market opened tomorrow, another wave of crises awaited her. So, she handed the investigation of Paige over to Xena. Xena was determined to uncover everything about Paige.
Sure enough, that night, the Sackler family took a significant hit. They barely made it to the next day, only to face another crisis when the market opened. Meanwhile, Xena focused all her energy on investigating Paige.
On the other side, the CEO of the Morgan Group arrived in Northwind. Raymond had mentioned a collaboration before, and Oliver acted quickly.
But upon arriving in Northwind, Oliver's first move wasn't to discuss collaboration but to talk about the proposal with Raymond.
Oliver, exuding elegance and authority, faced Raymond, who was sitting in a wheelchair. "I heard from Lily that you've been married before?"
Raymond, sitting in the wheelchair, answered without hesitation, "Yeah. I'm currently going through a divorce."
Oliver walked up to Raymond, stood still, and looked down at him. "I've already looked into your situation. I came here with enough sincerity to ensure you and your spouse live worry-free for life. But you need to show enough sincerity and give my sister a promise, a guarantee!"
Raymond immediately agreed. "Alright, whatever Lily wants, I'll do my best to fulfill."
Then Raymond turned to Lily. "What do you want as a wedding gift?"
Lily quickly replied, "I haven't decided yet. Can I tell you later? Raymond, thank you for agreeing to everything."
Raymond stated, "I'm willing to divorce for you; what else can't I agree to? You can have whatever you like."
Lily glanced proudly at Oliver, then squatted down beside Raymond. "Oliver is very busy with work, and I don't know how long he can stay this time. I'm afraid he might be too busy to attend our wedding. What should we do then?"
Raymond hesitated. "Well..."
Before he could finish, Oliver spoke up, "Isn't it simple? Since I'm already here, you should pick a date and get married soon."
Raymond looked up. "My divorce is still being processed; it will take at least half a month to finalize."
Upon hearing this, Lily immediately said, "Didn't you and Paige not have a wedding? No one in Northwind knows you two are married, and the divorce is in process, so it shouldn't affect our wedding, right?"
Oliver thought for a moment and then said, "She's right. Since no one knows you're married, let's have the wedding first and worry about the divorce later. It would be embarrassing if Lily got married without family."
Raymond answered, "Isn't that inappropriate?"
