Chapter 262 The Evidence Under the Pillow

Julian jumped into action and got someone on the case right away.

Francesca had only messed with the surveillance on Luna's side; the rest of the hospital's cameras were still working. So, tracking down the person who bumped into Paige was a piece of cake.

When Paige found out the hospital's surveillance wasn't totally down, she had Cecil widen the search.

After setting up the investigation, Amelia chimed in, "Mrs. Parker still has some stuff at the hospital. I'll head over later to pack it up."

Paige shot that down immediately, "No need, I'll handle it myself. I want to take care of it personally."

Raymond hadn't left Paige's side for days. Since she wanted to go to the hospital, he was going with her. After dinner, when Paige reached for the car keys, Raymond stopped her. "Take it easy for a few days and let the driver do it," he suggested.

"Alright." With the keys out of her hands, Paige got into Raymond's car.

Charles drove smoothly up front with Paige and Raymond in the car, while Pearl and Amelia followed in another car, heading to the hospital to pack things up.

Amelia asked, "Pearl, have you noticed Ms. Ellison seems off? Should we help her let it out? Keeping it all in might be bad."

Amelia underestimated Paige's strength. Luna's death hit her hard, but it wasn't something she couldn't handle.

"Don't worry, Mrs. Ellison will be fine. She just needs some time, " Pearl replied, knowing Paige well.

Amelia said, "But since the cemetery, Ms. Ellison hasn't cried or eaten much. She's not doing well."

Pearl replied, "Luna was special to her, a crutch since childhood. Now that Luna's gone, she might break down for a bit, but she'll be okay." Pearl always believed in Paige's strength.

Moments later, they got to the hospital. At Luna's ward, Paige suddenly stopped at the door. She paused there, and no one dared to interrupt her.

After hesitating for a bit, Paige shook off the daze and turned the doorknob. As the door opened, her heart ached with each step inside. No one thought Luna's death would be this hard for her to handle.

"Honey, you okay?" Raymond, practically glued to Paige, felt her body tremble. He asked, concerned.

Paige, tense, snapped back a bit thanks to Raymond's words. She nodded slightly. "I'm fine. Just thinking about how to pack everything up."

Pearl stepped in, "We brought storage boxes."

Paige didn't say anything and walked inside. Pearl and Amelia started packing up the lounge as Paige had instructed; she wanted every single item packed and taken away. While they were busy packing, Paige headed to the ward she dreaded facing.

Luna used to be in that ward, whether awake or asleep. Now, as Paige touched the doorknob, a sharp pain hit her. She knew Luna would never be there again. No matter how many times she opened the door, Luna wouldn't be inside.

Raymond seemed to sense Paige's fear. He put his hand on hers. "Let me do it."

Paige shook her head and decided to open it herself. The bed was still there, and the pillow still had bloodstains from Luna's resuscitation.

She walked over slowly, seeing all the things Luna used regularly. The reality of Luna's death hit her hard. Paige almost broke down in tears.

Raymond quietly brought in a storage box and waited for Paige. She sat by the bed, gently touching the dried bloodstains.

With Luna gone, Paige knew the motherly love she needed most was gone forever. She stood up and started packing Luna's personal stuff from the bedside cabinet. She handled each item carefully, placing them gently into the storage box.

After gathering the personal items, she moved on to Luna's clothes from her hospital stay.

She pulled out all the clothes from the wardrobe, some still with tags on. Paige suddenly remembered the white dresses Luna had bought for her, which got ruined after she got out of prison.

She never got the chance to have Luna buy her new clothes before she passed. With tears in her eyes, Paige folded the clothes and placed them into the storage box.

Most of Luna's belongings in the ward were packed. With everything packed away, the empty ward made Paige feel even more hollow inside.

She walked back and tidied up the messy bed. While arranging the pillow, Paige found some strands of hair underneath it. She lifted the pillow and saw a dozen dark red hairs. She frowned slightly.

"Where did this hair come from?" Paige picked up the small bunch of hairs and examined them closely.

At that moment, Raymond walked up. "What's that over there? A button?" He pointed to a black round object next to the pillow.

Paige immediately grabbed it. "Yeah, a button. This material isn't from my mom's clothes. Her pajamas were high-end brands, none with such cheap buttons."

Paige looked at Raymond, her heart racing with a bold guess in her mind.

Under Luna's pillow, there was a small bunch of hair and a cheap button. Paige couldn't help but get a bit emotional. She asked, "Could this be from the killer? Did my mom hide it under the pillow? They weren't there before. The medical staff taking care of her didn't have this hair color, and they didn't wear clothes with such buttons."

Raymond said, "Think if there could be any other possibilities."

Paige stared at the dark red long hair, and a person flashed in her mind. But it shouldn't be.

Paige said, "Francesca's hair isn't this color. Could it really not be her?"

Raymond didn't comment. After all, it was unreasonable and foolish for Francesca to kill Luna.

"Who could it be? There are quite a few nurses in the hospital with this hair color," Paige said. She didn't want to guess anymore; it would be more effective to investigate directly.

Paige held onto the hair and button, walking out of the ward. In the lounge, Pearl and Amelia had already packed the other items and were waiting for Paige. As Paige came out, they immediately approached her.

Paige instructed, "Amelia, gather all the men and women in the hospital with dark red long hair. I need to compare their hair."

Amelia was momentarily taken aback. "What?"

Paige repeated it again. To make sure Amelia understood, she showed her the dark red hair in her hand.

Paige instructed the bodyguards to take the storage boxes to the car. She hurried out, unable to wait any longer to compare the hair. Leaving the ward, she headed straight outside.

Raymond followed her, and Pearl quietly asked, "Mr. Carnegie, what's going on?"

Raymond slightly shook his head, not telling that the hair and button in Paige's hand were likely from the person who poisoned Luna.

Paige walked out of the ward, passing by Margaret's room. Margaret had gotten a bit of rain today. Feeling unwell after returning, she slept until the evening. She had just gotten up, eaten something, and felt the room was stuffy, so she wanted to go out for a walk. She didn't notice Paige hurrying by.

Supported by Caleb, Margaret sighed and asked, "Where's Elijah? He hasn't shown up for two days."

Before she finished speaking, she felt a gust of wind beside her and found it was Paige. Margaret stopped in her tracks, intending to call out to Paige but unsure how to start.

At that moment, Paige, who had already passed by, suddenly stopped. She turned to Margaret and asked, "What did you just say? Who hasn't shown up for two days?"
