Chapter 274 Watching Him Take His Last Breath
Paige's tone resembled that of taming a wild animal, calming them after enduring hardship.
Lily was too exhausted to argue. She collapsed, barely able to stand.
But when she saw Raymond and Paige, she still managed to roll over, looking like she was kneeling, though it was more like she was too weak to get up.
"Please, please save him. He's gonna die if you don't."
Paige tilted her head and glanced at Oliver, who was in bad shape but still hanging on.
Paige had waited this long, so a bit more time wouldn't hurt. Besides, Oliver was her bargaining chip now, and she needed Lily to obey first. "You want me to save him?"
Lily nodded desperately, barely able to speak. Paige gave a faint smile, "I could save him with my medical skills. But why should I? Give me a reason."
Hearing this, Lily closed her eyes in utter despair.
"I've never met my boss directly. He gives orders and leaves part of the money at a designated spot. We start the deal as soon as we take the money. Yes, someone instructed us to do this. We accidentally discovered it was a secret fund."
Lily was struggling to stay conscious, almost out of breath. Since she was willing to cooperate, Paige wasn't completely heartless.
She took a bottle of water from her bag and tossed it to Lily. "Drink it. It'll give you energy."
Hearing this, Lily immediately unscrewed the cap and drank the whole bottle in one go. After drinking, she felt a bit better, realizing the water Paige gave her was highly nutritious and energizing.
Paige developed this product for Luna initially, but Luna never had the chance to try it.
Locas had just gathered the raw materials and made it in the past two days. This afternoon, when Paige asked him to deliver something to the Universe Group, Locas brought it over to Paige.
Paige tried it herself and found the taste pretty good. So she casually brought a bottle along.
"Go on. Seems like you're ready to betray your boss."
Lily said, "Yes. We got clues from the Morgan Family and successfully threatened them, changing our identities. Then we made a fake clue for our boss. After that, the boss gave us clues about the Carnegie Family and told us to eliminate the Perez Family from Snow Lab to get your attention."
Hearing this, Paige looked at Raymond, who got the message right away.
Paige asked, "Snow Lab, huh? Nice name. Seems like your boss knows a lot, but who is he really? Now, the real clue you got from the Morgan Family is with us. What do you think will happen if we let your boss know you tried to trick him with fake info?"
Lily started shaking. "Mrs. Carnegie, please, have mercy. I've told you everything I know. It's been a struggle for us to reach this point. We don't want to die. Please save him and spare us."
Paige gave a faint smile, "Do you think I'm some kind of wishing well? You're wrong. I'm the demon you should never have crossed! You chose the wrong path."
Lily immediately knelt more properly, "Please, Mrs. Carnegie. Mr. Carnegie, please. If you spare us, I'll do anything you ask."
Paige said, "Anything, huh? Including spreading the information and then letting you go?"
Lily was stunned; this was basically a death sentence.
But Paige continued, "You could find clues about a large sum of money but not who your boss is. That's your incompetence. Since you can't tell me directly who your boss is, I'll have to let you go to lure him out."
Paige said this and looked at Raymond. Raymond didn't know that Paige indeed had some demonic tendencies, which he quite liked.
This wasn't something Paige had discussed with him, but once she said it, Raymond was very interested. After Paige finished speaking, she saw that Raymond supported her decision.
So Paige turned back to Lily. "Need time to think? Then, I'll go check on Oliver's condition first."
Paige then walked towards Oliver's cage. The door was already open, and Oliver lay inside.
Paige said, "He seems quite good. Most folks would have died already, but he's still holding on."
Lily didn't want to be the bait to lure out the boss. But hearing Paige's words, Lily immediately got up from the ground.
She staggered towards the other side of the cage, looking at Paige and Oliver.
"How is he? I haven't heard his voice for over an hour. No matter how much pain he was in before, he would still respond when I called his name."
Paige roughly checked Oliver's condition. "Severe inflammation, high fever. His condition is indeed very serious. Whether he can survive now depends not on me but on you."
Paige stood up and looked at Lily from the cage. Her meaning was clear.
If Lily agreed to Paige's terms, Paige would save Oliver. If she refused, Paige would lock them both in the basement, letting Lily watch Oliver's life slowly fade away until he took his last breath.
