Chapter 260 The Person Paige Needed Most Had Died

Francesca could tell the conversation was getting pretty heavy. After Louis tried to cheer her up a bit, she managed a small smile and decided to drop the whole accident topic. But in her mind, Francesca had already made up her mind about Louis's future—marriage and kids were on the agenda.

As Francesca's car drove off, Margaret knew she couldn't just hang around. Paige didn't want her at Luna's final farewell, and it felt weird to loiter outside the funeral home. Plus, the hospital was calling her back.

Margaret dragged herself back to the hospital, feeling exhausted. She sat on the bed, scanning the room, but there was no sign of Elijah. Frowning, she asked Caleb, "Where's Elijah? I haven't seen him since last night. And you, as his dad, don't you care?"

Caleb was puzzled too. Elijah was MIA, his phone unreachable, like he vanished into thin air. With Luna's sudden passing, they couldn't enter without Paige's approval. Margaret was hoping Elijah, with his knack for getting into places, could help out. If he pushed his way in, Paige probably wouldn't stop him. At least then, Margaret could get updates on Paige.

Caleb shrugged. "Maybe he got bored of the hospital and went out with friends."

Margaret sighed. "If you hear from him, tell him to get over here. I need him to keep an eye on things at the funeral home."

Caleb nodded. "Got it."

After Luna's memorial service, it was time for the cremation. As Luna was wheeled in, Paige lost it. Raymond held her up, making sure she didn't collapse. She had held it together during the farewell, but now she clung to Raymond, tears streaming down her face. "Raymond, I don't have a mom anymore."

Raymond felt her pain deeply, sharing in her sorrow. "You still have me. I'll never leave you. I'll always be here." Paige clung to him, sobbing uncontrollably. After the cremation, the staff handed her Luna's ashes. Holding the urn, her tears fell onto it.

Raymond gently patted her back. "Don't cry. When my mom passed away, my dad told me she'd be watching over me from the sky and she'd be sad if I kept crying."

Paige looked up at him. His words didn't really help. She wasn't a kid; she knew Luna was gone for good. From now on, she'd have to live without her mom. Holding the urn, she slowly stopped crying, accepting the reality.

That night, Paige wanted to be alone with Luna's urn. In the dark, no one saw her tears. She held the urn, crying until she drifted off to sleep.

Her dreams were a mess of childhood memories with Luna. She cried in her sleep and woke up crying, over and over. Before dawn, Pearl knocked on the door. Paige was already awake. "Ms. Ellison, everything's ready. Do you want to reschedule since it's raining outside?"

Luna was to be buried. Paige had decided long ago to lay her mom to rest. Paige got up slowly, still holding the urn. She didn't answer Pearl right away but went to the window and opened the curtains.

It was drizzling, a bit foggy. Paige remembered a rainy day from her childhood when Luna comforted her after a fall. Luna had held her until she stopped crying, treated her scraped knee, and gave her a small cake to cheer her up.

Luna liked drizzly days. Paige turned and said, "No need to postpone. She liked this kind of weather. It's fitting to send her off in it."

Pearl replied, "Alright, I'll continue with the arrangements." Paige's eyes hurt from all the crying. She settled Luna's urn and tidied herself up. Pearl had everything set. When Paige came out, she was in a black outfit, looking a bit more composed.

Raymond had spent the night on the couch, not sleeping deeply in case Paige needed him. In the morning, after Pearl arranged the funeral details, Raymond got up to get ready too. He was waiting outside Paige's door. When she opened it, he was there.

Raymond didn't say anything, just reached out for the urn. "Let me take it. You should eat something. We'll head up the hill soon."

Luna's grave was on a hill, a high spot with a view of most of Northwind. Paige had chosen it, hoping Luna could finally see a bit farther, something she never had in life. Her life had been too short and filled with too much suffering. Now, she was finally at peace.

Paige nodded, handing the urn to Raymond. She even managed to eat some breakfast. Yesterday at the funeral home, she hadn't eaten anything, which had worried him.

They took Luna up the hill, and the rain got heavier. Everything was ready. Paige carried Luna's urn and laid her to rest. Luna was truly gone, the person Paige needed most in the world. Her heart felt as if it had been ripped apart, leaving an unrelenting ache. And Paige's desire for revenge grew stronger.
