Chapter 420 She Is Not Worthy of Our Myers Family
Leroy hadn't had the chance to think about who that familiar figure was when Simon walked over. "Leroy, I need you to run an errand."
Leroy gave Simon a deep look. Why was he talking to him so equally?
The Smith family, did they have that qualification?
A daughter from a nouveau riche family, lucky enough to catch Barry's eye, and he heard there was some unpleasantness today. If it weren't for the fear that Amelia from the Smith family would upset Barry, he wouldn't have come to the Smith family at all.
And looked at her status, was she even worthy of Barry?
Leroy frowned, "Simon, what's going on? Didn't we already have an understanding about Barry and Amelia?"
Simon quickly said, "Leroy, haven't we always said it depends on how the kids develop? Today, Barry came straight to the company to propose. It didn't go well, you see..."
Before Simon could finish, Leroy interrupted him, "Where's Barry? I just saw Amelia leave, where did Barry go?"
Simon said, "The kid's next door."
Leroy was furious. "What do you mean? Are you holding Barry?"
Frederick immediately said, "Mr. Myers, what are you saying? We just asked Barry to rest next door. He was too emotional and started saying things he shouldn't. Although the Smith family can't compare to an old established family like the Myers family, we are law-abiding. How could we just detain someone?"
Leroy finally realized that today's matter wouldn't be easily resolved.
Not having seen Barry yet, he was naturally worried. "Let Barry come out, I need to ask him what exactly happened today."
The timing was just right; Julian had been called out to eat by Paige, leaving Barry unattended.
He wandered over himself, and as soon as he saw Leroy, he started complaining about the Smith family's wrongdoings. "Dad, why are you here? No, finally you're here. You don't know how outrageous the Smith family is. I came today with sincerity to propose to Amelia, wanting to marry her. I prepared a big diamond ring and proposed in public. Unexpectedly, she embarrassed me and even brought people to teach me a lesson."
How could Leroy stand to see Barry suffer? He immediately checked Barry for injuries.
Seeing a big footprint on Barry's clothes and bruises on both cheeks, Leroy's anger flared up. "Simon, what's going on? Barry came to propose, and this is how you treat him? Where's Amelia? Bring her back, I need to ask why a failed proposal led to my son being beaten."
Frederick was also thoroughly disappointed with the Myers family at this point. "Mr. Myers, I was there at the time. Amelia rejected Barry's proposal. Barry immediately humiliated her, saying she was seducing others and that it was her honor that he was willing to marry her. Mr. Myers, you have a younger daughter, right? Do you think Barry's words were appropriate?"
Leroy didn't care about that at the moment, only focusing on Barry being beaten by the Smith family. "Is it okay to just beat someone? Simon, if you don't give an explanation today, this matter won't end easily!"
After saying that, Leroy asked Barry, "Barry, what do you plan to do?"
Barry continued to complain, "Dad, their people even threatened to bankrupt our Myers family."
Leroy, as if hearing the most ridiculous joke, couldn't help but laugh. "What? Bankrupt? Bankrupt our Myers family? Really? Simon, are you going to bankrupt our family?"
Leroy openly mocked them. "Alright, the Smith family is impressive. I heard you were trying to latch onto the Carnegie family, and your daughter Amelia even tried to seduce Louis. I overlooked all that because Barry liked Amelia. But you don't know your place and dare to say such things. Let's see who bankrupts whom. However, if you have Amelia and the person who hit Barry come out and apologize, and let Barry hit back..."
Before Leroy could finish, Frederick couldn't take it anymore.
Simon, being older and more composed, didn't react much to these words. After all, Paige had already made her stance clear, and Simon knew the outcome.
Frederick interrupted, "Barry is a grown man, and he still likes to complain to his parents. But an apology is impossible. Amelia did nothing wrong. She just rejected a person of poor character, a hypocrite like Barry, and she doesn't like him. Rejection is normal, not wrong. As for Barry being beaten, I personally think he deserved it. If you're not satisfied, you can settle it with the person who hit you. If you can beat him, or if you can command him, that's your ability. Feel free to try."
Frederick's words completely enraged Leroy and Barry.
In the minds of the Myers family, the Smith family was nothing, just upstarts who didn't even deserve to stand here and talk to them.
Leroy said, "Very well! I thought the Smith family was at least smart enough to rise up. Since you're so foolish, don't blame me for being rude."
Barry said, "Frederick, how dare you talk to me like that. Do you believe I can ruin your sister's reputation in Northwind for life and leave the Smith family with no place to bury their dead?"
Frederick didn't answer him but looked at Simon and asked. "Dad, is our Smith family so weak? Can anyone bully us as they please and suppress us as they wish?"
Simon had long had enough. The reason he hadn't taken drastic action was that he knew the Myers family had already been forewarned of bankruptcy by Paige. There was no need to waste any more time.
Besides, it was getting late, and he was a bit hungry!
Leroy and Barry had revealed their true colors, appearing both arrogant and disrespectful.
Simon sighed and answered Frederick, "Then let's have a big meal before our family goes bankrupt."
After saying that, Simon looked at Leroy and Barry and said. "Why don't you also have a big meal while you still have money? You might not get another chance."
Simon's words were light and sincere, almost driving Leroy and Barry mad with anger.
Who talked like that?
Leroy angrily said, "Barry, let's go. Notify the company to start attacking the Smith family from this moment until they go bankrupt! A big meal? I'll make sure you never get to eat a big meal again in your life."
Simon and Frederick exchanged a glance, showing they didn't take Leroy's words seriously.
Simon's stomach growled, and he asked, "Call and find out where Amelia and Ms. Ellison went for lunch."
Frederick knew Amelia well. "With Pearl not around, Ms. Ellison must have been taken to eat by Amelia. There's a nice Mexican restaurant nearby. Ms. Ellison has been having some pregnancy cravings lately, sometimes liking spicy food, sometimes sour. They probably went there."
After saying that, the father and son followed.
Sure enough, Paige, Amelia, and Julian were there.
The dishes had just been served, and Paige smiled. "You guys have good timing."
Simon and Frederick sat down. Having shared many meals together, they weren't overly formal.
After sitting down, they started eating.
Simon picked up his fork but eventually put it down.
He said to Amelia, "Amelia, I want to apologize. I'm sorry. Today's events were because I misjudged people. I promise I won't interfere in your marriage anymore. You're mature and sensible now. Choose someone you like."
Simon never expected that the Myers family would decline with each generation.
Paige said, "Alright, let's eat. Aren't you hungry?"
This incident didn't affect Amelia's feelings for her family.
It wasn't necessarily a misjudgment; the Myers family had just hidden their true nature too well. It wasn't Simon's fault that Barry only showed his true colors after the failed proposal.
After Paige's comment, Simon relaxed.
Amelia put some food Simon liked into his bowl, "Thank you, Dad. Is it okay if I don't get married?"
Simon's face darkened, but before he could speak, Frederick quickly added some food to his bowl. "Dad, I'll get married soon and give you a grandchild to hold."
The implication was that if one of them completed this major task, the other wouldn't have to bear the pressure.
Simon took a deep breath. "I'm getting old. You handle your own affairs."
Paige, who had already started eating, couldn't help but laugh at Simon's words.
Everyone's eyes turned to her.
It wasn't a formal meeting, and since Paige and the Smith family had grown closer after mutual support during uncertain times, their relationship had become quite friendly.
Paige put down her fork, wiped her mouth, and said. "I'm just envious. Honestly, I really like the atmosphere in your family."
Frederick said, "Ms. Ellison, you're too kind. We still have to thank you for stepping in and turning the tide today."
Paige then got to the point. "Taking down the Myers family will make the Smith family's future development smoother. This isn't just for you; it's also for myself. You've seen the higher economic world. Whether I like it or not, with the near-extermination of the Douglas family and the mysterious deaths in my husband's Carnegie family, I've been dragged into deep grudges."
Paige continued, "From now on, you and I share a life-and-death interest. The stronger the Smith family, the better we can withstand the coming risks. Pearl has already taken action. I believe the Myers family will soon come begging for mercy. So, I hope you understand, this isn't about teaching them a lesson. It's war!"
