Chapter 340 That is Sin
Margaret looked at Francesca and pointed at her, saying, "Why be so cruel, do you know? Last night, Paige came to the Sackler family. Do you know, I sincerely wanted to get close to her, to make amends, but she told me she wasn't my granddaughter. I've never seen her like that before. Back then, I thought she was the child Luna had out of wedlock. For Steven's reputation, for the family's reputation, I took out all my hatred on Paige."
Margaret added, "Because of this, I even became enemies with the obedient Luna. And today, I stand before Louis. We are family, sharing the same blood. But Francesca, can't you see, we are as distant as strangers on the street. This is too cruel. To me, to Louis, and to the most pitiful child, Paige! Do you know, she has two names, but neither of them is her true identity. All of us were dragged into this trap by your decision."
Margaret's words left Francesca speechless.
She knew that ever since she decided to swap Paige, she was destined to bear some consequences.
But people made choices, and in the most difficult situations, they chose the slightly better option.
Sending Paige away was the best plan she could come up with after exhausting all her efforts.
Francesca understood the feeling Margaret described.
Louis and Margaret had blood ties but no affection.
How was it any different between her and Paige?
Years of hurt have made many things hard to change.
Francesca sat up, removed the fever patch from her forehead, slowly stood up, and bowed her head to apologize to Margaret, "I'm sorry, it's all my fault. If you want to hate someone, hate me."
Margaret said, "Hate you? Steven did it; he personally took Paige from the delivery room and handed her to me. You raised the Sackler family's child so well, while I let your daughter suffer and even sent her to prison. Even if I die, I can't atone for my sins, so how can I hate? I never thought that after a lifetime of strength, diligence, and happiness, I would only start tasting pain in my old age. Is this the punishment fate has given me?"
Francesca apologized again, "I'm sorry! I've promised everything I can. What I've promised, I will fulfill."
Margaret asked, "Fulfill? Fulfill what? What can you give?"
After saying this, Margaret wiped her tears and turned to walk towards the door.
Francesca stood there, still bowing her head in apology.
Margaret's hand was on the doorknob when she suddenly remembered something and turned to look at Francesca. "I was cleaning up at home and found a box with a baby's hair and milk teeth. Last night, Paige guessed that Xena might have stolen the hair from that box for a DNA test, using this method to deceive and become the Sackler family's heiress for years. Today, I have to ask, is the hair and milk teeth in that box Louis's?"
Francesca raised her head and nodded. "It should be. Gregory and Steven kept in touch before they died and exchanged the children's hair, milk teeth, and some toys. The children couldn't be with them, so they comforted each other in this way."
Margaret gritted her teeth and spoke again."Francesca, this is a sin!"
For the rest of her life, she would have to atone for her sins.
And Francesca would not have it any better.
Because of her decision to swap the children, Paige ended up marrying her uncle.
How could Francesca atone for such a sin?
Francesca knew too well that she thought it was the best decision she had ever made.
But now, she couldn't bear the outcome.
Margaret opened the door and left, and Francesca's tears flowed uncontrollably as she collapsed onto the bed.
Margaret was right; this was her sin!
Paige carrying Raymond's child was the greatest punishment fate could give her.
Francesca felt she couldn't hold on any longer. She got up and frantically searched for her phone, then switched to a different SIM card and dialed a number from memory.
As usual, the call was answered after three rings.
On the other end, familiar breathing patterns could be heard, and Francesca couldn't help but cry. "I can't hold on anymore; it's all my sin. What should I do? I've messed everything up. I've lost my child, and I've made her lose the life she should have had. She's pregnant, carrying Raymond's child. Why is fate treating me like this? Why is it so hard to live, tell me."
Francesca cried uncontrollably, and there was silence on the other end of the line.
After a long pause, a voice finally came through, "Francesca."
The deep voice carried a subtle strength.
Just a name, but Francesca heard it clearly.
A simple call was more comforting than a thousand words.
Francesca knelt on the ground, her upper body leaning on the bed, gradually calming down.
After composing herself, she asked, "How is Plan B going? I can't stay at Northwind anymore. The timing isn't perfect, but I need to move to the next step."
On the other end, there were no extra words, just a steady and powerful "Okay."
Francesca wanted to say more, but there was a knock on the door.
Francesca's nerves instantly tensed. She turned around abruptly, realizing how careless she had been with this call.
She had forgotten that this was the Carnegie Manor, not her own house.
She had forgotten that there were still Carnegie family members outside who might come in at any time.
Without thinking, Francesca immediately hung up the phone.
As the knocking stopped, the door opened.
Louis stood at the door and saw Francesca kneeling on the ground, frantically hanging up the phone.
Louis asked, "Did I interrupt your call?"
Francesca shook her head, "No." She couldn't control her emotions.
There were still obvious tears on her face, and her eyes were swollen.
Seeing this, Louis felt a complex emotion.
Even though he wasn't Francesca's biological son, they had been mother and son for many years, and Louis understood Francesca to some extent.
Seeing her like this, Louis felt that the call she made at this time was not simple.
The person who answered her call must knew what their identity was.
After hanging up, Francesca immediately stood up and walked towards the bathroom, "I need to go to the bathroom."
Louis sighed, "Alright."
He waited on the side.
Francesca hurried into the bathroom and immediately took out the SIM card and threw it into the toilet, watching it get flushed away before she breathed a sigh of relief!
