Chapter 214 The Matching Results
Paige was in shock for a while before she whispered, "Just leave me alone."
Raymond could only watch as Paige headed upstairs by herself, feeling down but knowing she didn't want anyone's comfort.
Once she got upstairs, Paige went straight to the study. The quiet, empty study made her feel safe. She hated noise and getting hurt.
Downstairs, Raymond was pacing back and forth, trying to figure out how to comfort Paige.
Finally, Julian couldn't take it anymore and cut in, "Mr. Carnegie, can you stop pacing? It's making us dizzy. Xanthe's clearly traumatized. Why not get a psychologist to see her?"
A psychologist? Raymond seemed to get the idea. He stopped pacing and quickly headed upstairs.
Pearl saw this and hurried after him. "Mr. Carnegie, Xanthe said she wants to be alone."
Raymond replied, "Don't follow me. She needs me right now."
Upstairs, Raymond checked the bedroom but didn't find Paige. He figured she must be in the study. He got to the study door, which was closed. Raymond knocked, but there was no answer. He was sure Paige was in there. "It's me, Paige. Can I come in?"
Paige still didn't open the door. Growing anxious, Raymond quickly ran downstairs. "Is there a ladder in the house?" As soon as he got downstairs, he asked. Pearl looked puzzled, "A ladder?"
A nearby servant said, "Yes, it's in the storage room. Mr. Carnegie, where do you need it?"
Raymond said, "The balcony on the second floor, right below the study."
A few people brought the ladder to the second-floor balcony facing the study. Raymond climbed up, pushed open the study window, and climbed in. The study was pitch dark. Raymond could barely see Paige curled up behind the door by the light from outside.
Raymond walked carefully and slowly towards her. He squatted down beside her to keep her company.
Suddenly, Raymond saw Paige's body trembling in the dim light. He couldn't help but reach out to hug her. But as soon as Raymond's arm wrapped around Paige, she started trembling violently and pushed him away with all her strength.
Raymond held her tightly. "It's me. No one will hurt you. Don't be afraid, I'm here."
Hearing Raymond's voice, Paige calmed down a bit. "How did you get in here?" she asked.
Raymond pointed to the window. "I came in through there."
Paige shook her head. "I'm fine. You don't need to stay with me."
Raymond held Paige in his arms. "Just let me stay with you. Fifteen years ago, even though I couldn't understand your pain, you saved my life at such a young age. But thinking about how much you suffered back then, I'd rather die if it meant you wouldn't be hurt."
Paige relaxed and let Raymond hold her. They stayed in the dark, talking for a while. Paige, exhausted, fell asleep in Raymond's arms. In the end, Raymond carried Paige back to the bedroom to rest.
The night dragged on. Even with Raymond's comfort, Paige seemed to relive that day in her dreams. She woke up screaming in the middle of the night. Luckily, Raymond was there to calm her down and help her get back to sleep.
The next morning, Paige was jolted awake by her phone ringing. She answered the call from the hospital right away. "Really? Okay, got it."
Paige hung up, jumped out of bed, and started grabbing her clothes. Raymond quickly followed. "What's going on?"
Paige replied, "The hospital called." Raymond immediately thought of Luna in the hospital and got anxious. "What happened to Mom?"
Paige, still getting dressed, said, "They found a matching kidney. I need to get to the hospital right now."
Raymond was stunned. "Really?" Then he was overjoyed. "That's amazing. I'll go with you."
They both got ready in record time and rushed to the hospital, skipping breakfast.
At the hospital, the doctor was already waiting in the ward. As soon as they arrived, Paige asked the doctor about the situation.
The doctor, holding some documents, said, "The latest matching results came out last night. We found a kidney that matches Luna. But we don't know if the donor's willing..." The doctor paused and glanced at Raymond.Raymond suddenly remembered he had done a matching test yesterday. "Is it my kidney that matches? If it is, you can schedule the surgery anytime. I'm willing to donate my kidney to her for free."
Paige realized what was happening and looked at Raymond with a warm feeling in her heart. Even though she didn't want Raymond to donate his kidney, she would love him deeply if it could save Luna.
As they exchanged a glance, both feeling touched, the doctor sighed and said, "Mr. Carnegie, you misunderstood. Your match didn't come through."
Paige asked, "It's not him? Then who is it?"
Raymond also wondered. "How many people did the matching test?"
After Raymond asked, a name suddenly popped into his head. Paige stared at the doctor nervously. No matter who did the matching test, as long as it matched, she would find a way to convince the person to donate the kidney to Luna.
She didn't want to see Luna, who had suffered so much, continue to endure the pain. After the kidney transplant, Luna could gradually recover. So Paige pressed the doctor, "Can you tell us who it is? My mom can't wait any longer. Now that we've found a match, I don't want to give up."
The doctor said, "I'm sorry, but we can't disclose the donor's information. However, only two people did the matching test yesterday. And you know the other one!"
The doctor couldn't reveal the donor's identity but gave a crucial hint. Paige suddenly remembered that Louis had told her last night that he had done the matching test. Paige was shocked. "It's him!"
