Chapter 254 If It Wasn't You Who Poisoned, Then Who?

Louis blurted out, "Isn't it? Who else could it be besides you?" Francesca gaped at Louis, stunned. It wasn't just Paige's crew thinking she poisoned Luna; even Louis was buying into it.

After a few seconds of dead silence, Francesca yelled, "It wasn't me! Everyone's pointing fingers at me, and now you too? Louis, I'm your mom!"

Louis sighed. "That's exactly why I came to you first when this all went down."

Francesca insisted, "I told you, it wasn't me. Why would I poison her? What motive would I have?"

Louis replied, "You do. You admitted your people took me away. You didn't want me to donate a kidney to her."

Francesca's voice shot up, "But that doesn't mean I'd kill her! How can you think that of me? I didn't want you to donate a kidney, sure, but murder? I had already gotten you out of the hospital. Why would I do something so extreme? Do I look like a killer to you?"

Louis kept pushing, but Francesca stood her ground, denying any involvement in Luna's poisoning and death.

Louis slumped into a chair, feeling crushed and helpless. It wasn't that he didn't trust Francesca. But with what Amelia said, the timeline, and the destroyed surveillance, all signs pointed to her. She was the prime suspect.

He asked, "The last thing I want is for Ms. Parker's death to be on you. But if it wasn't you, then who? Mom, did you mess with the hospital's surveillance?"

Francesca nodded without a second thought. "Yeah, I had it destroyed. I wanted to talk to her alone and sort things out. She's a mom too; she'd get where I was coming from. But if the surveillance caught it, things would get messy between me and Paige, so I had it wiped. But I never meant to kill her. I didn't hate her that much. Besides, I'm clear about my connection with Paige."

Louis closed his eyes, feeling a headache coming on. No matter what, Paige would never buy Francesca's story. But Louis did. Not just because she was his mom, but because he'd seen how she operated over the years. She could be tough, but she'd never stoop to poisoning someone.

"Mom, if we can't find who really killed Ms. Parker, we're in deep trouble." Louis had wanted to donate a kidney to Luna, to save her and make amends with Paige. But instead, he failed, and Luna died.

Even though Louis had only met Luna a few times and barely spoke to her, he knew she had a tough life. Her days were short and filled with pain. Despite the physical and emotional torment, Luna clung to life. She was so close to getting that kidney transplant, but then she was gone.

The one hurting the most now was Paige. She looked like a ghost, completely shattered. Anyone who saw her would feel their heart break.

Francesca let out a small sigh of relief. At least Louis was on her side. But with the surveillance footage gone and the timing so sketchy, she couldn't clear her name. Suddenly, she jumped up. "I need to go to the funeral home. Louis, change your clothes and come with me."

She put down her cup and was ready to drag Louis along, but he stopped her. "Mom, it's not a good idea for you to go now. Paige already thinks you killed her mom. Amelia said Paige swore she'd personally take out whoever poisoned her mom. You showing up will just make things worse."

Louis couldn't even picture the chaos that would ensue. The last thing he wanted was a showdown between Paige and Francesca. But Francesca was determined. "Look, whether she wants revenge or not, I'm not the one who did it. If I don't go now, it'll just look more suspicious. Besides, everything that happened last night started because of me. I need to pay my respects."

She didn't know when Luna's burial was, but she felt she had to go now. Louis was still on the fence, but Francesca was already heading upstairs to change. "Hurry up, Louis. Change your clothes. You can't go dressed like that."

Louis glanced down at his sky-blue outfit, realizing it was totally inappropriate. Since Francesca was dead set on going, Louis had no choice but to tag along. If he didn't, things could spiral out of control. At least if he was there, he could try to keep the peace.

Francesca came back down in an all-black outfit, no jewelry, looking somber. Louis was waiting in a black suit too. "Honestly, we shouldn't go. Paige is a wreck right now. You showing up might set her off."

Francesca knew her presence might rile Paige up. But she was convinced she wasn't the killer. No matter what, she felt she had to go. She insisted, and Louis had no choice but to go with her. Just as they were about to leave, Ethan's car pulled up.

Ethan had planned to go home but decided to swing by Francesca's place instead. Francesca walked over to Ethan's car. "Dad, what are you doing here?"

Seeing her in all black, Ethan knew where she was headed. "Are you going to see Paige's mom?"

Francesca nodded. "Yeah, I need to see her."

Ethan nodded back. "I figured. I came to let you know, just in case. Go comfort Paige. She's not doing well today."

Louis, standing nearby, realized Ethan didn't know the full story. If he did, he wouldn't have said that. Louis kept quiet. Ethan was old, and telling him everything would just add to his worries.
