Chapter 417 Three Tombstones

When receiving Margaret's body from the plane and during the farewell ceremony, there were many people.

But in the end, only close relatives and Margaret's intimate friends were there to see her off to her final resting place.

This was not the first time Paige had encountered such a parting of life and death.

When she placed that white flower in front of Margaret's tombstone, expressing her final bit of gratitude, the funeral was completely over.

Louis thanked the friends and family who attended the funeral, while Paige went to the side to mourn Steven and Luna.

Amelia stood beside Paige, holding an umbrella for her, without saying a word.

After Paige finished cleaning, she stood in front of Luna's tombstone. The photo on the tombstone was taken when Luna's health was not so bad. In the photo, her makeup concealed her frailty, and she looked dignified with a gentle smile.

As she looked at it, Paige also smiled slightly, as if to comfort Luna not to worry about her.

She said, "Mom, I'm doing well. Don't worry about me over there. I have a baby in my belly now, so I won't be alone anymore."

As Paige spoke, Louis had finished seeing off the other guests and walked over.

He took a bunch of white flowers and personally placed them in front of Luna's grave.

He remembered that after Luna passed away, Francesca insisted on taking him to bid farewell to Luna, and on the day of Luna's funeral, she made sure to bring him along.

Now, Louis understood it all.

Francesca had a mother-son bond with him and didn't want him to have more regrets.

"Mom, I think you should know about our relationship over there," Louis said, bowing three times in front of the tombstone.

After standing up straight, Louis looked to the left.

His grandparents and biological parents were all here.

He suddenly looked at Paige and said. "If one day I die too, please help me return here."

This cemetery was not a public one but could be considered the private cemetery of the Sackler family.

Paige glanced at Louis, "You? That's a long way off. Telling me this is useless; we're the same age."

After saying that, Paige walked away.

Louis stood there alone, and suddenly, tears were streaming down his face.

Had Paige forgiven him?

In the past, he thought he was the heir to the Carnegie family and believed that even if he sent Paige to prison, she would be grateful to him when she got out and still see him as a savior.

Later, when Paige became Xanthe Ellison and married Raymond, Louis still thought he could make up for his wrongs, still love her, and pursue her.

But now, Louis finally understood that he had no qualifications at all.

What he once prided himself on was now utterly insignificant in front of Paige.

This time, Paige accompanied him back to bury Margaret. Louis knew that Paige was probably still grateful to Margaret, which was why she came back. It didn't necessarily mean she had forgiven him for his past actions.

However, Paige's words just now completely drew a line between him and the past and began to accept him.

Louis stood there, letting the drizzle fall on him.

Paige had walked quite a distance before she turned back to see Louis still standing there.

Under the gray sky, with the drizzle falling, Louis stood alone in front of several tombstones, his figure appearing particularly lonely and desolate.

Paige looked at him for a long time. She had also walked through loneliness and desolation.

Fortunately, in her life, she eventually met someone who held an umbrella for her.

At this moment, Pearl was holding an umbrella for Paige. She then looked at Amelia and said, "Call him over. The sky is getting darker, and it looks like there will be heavy rain soon. Tell him I want to go to the Sackler Villa."

Paige couldn't bear to leave Louis alone in the cemetery.

In this cemetery lay Luna, whom Paige loved the most. She knew what it felt like to stand there alone.

Amelia nodded and went over to share her umbrella with Louis.

Louis avoided Paige's gaze, quietly wiping the rain off his face, along with his tears.

Amelia pretended not to see anything, even lowering her head to avoid looking, and said, "Ms. Ellison said she wants to go to the Sackler Villa. Would you like to come back with us?"

Louis looked at the cemetery, then withdrew his gaze and said, "Okay."

Margaret was no longer here, and Louis had to take over the entire Sackler family.

After bidding farewell to Margaret, Louis would truly become the head of the Sackler family.

There were still many things to handle and transition.

Paige had come along this time and would help arrange some matters for the Smith family.

Afterward, they would fly back to Dominia together to reunite with their family.

Paige got into the car first, and when Louis got in, Paige handed him a towel.

Louis looked at Paige with gratitude.

Paige said, "Don't get the wrong idea. There's still a lot of work for you to do next." If he got sick, there would be no one to do the work.

Paige's words were quite direct.

However, Louis didn't mind.

The fact that Paige could hand him a towel was already quite good.

Louis wiped the rain off himself, and the group headed straight to the Sackler Villa.

Inside the Sackler Villa, there was nothing left that belonged to Paige, but since Margaret had passed away, Paige still wanted to sort and organize Luna's belongings left there.

Louis changed into clean clothes and came to the door of Luna's room, seeing Paige tidying up.

He knocked on the door. "There are still some things in Grandma's room. Why don't you go take a look?"

Paige turned around. "It's more appropriate for you to sort through her things."

Louis said, "Before she passed, she said she wanted to leave all her jewelry to you."

Paige stood up and walked over to Louis, saying, "You know I don't need these. Keep them as a memento. Although she wasn't good to me, she was always very good to her family. If you had grown up by her side, your relationship would have been very good. She would have spoiled you and helped you get more resources."

Paige was speaking the truth, but she didn't feel any guilt towards Louis because of it.

After all, it wasn't her who chose to swap her life with Louis's!

Louis said, "No matter what, I have already received more than enough. I am content now."

Having gone through so much, Louis was no longer the same person he used to be.

Moreover, he now increasingly admired Bradley's broad-mindedness, demeanor, and steadiness in doing things.

What he needed to do now was to take over Bradley's work, so he would use new standards to discipline himself.

Paige said, "Different paths lead to the same destination. Who would have thought that when we met in the village that year, we would have so many intersections later on? From now on, I won't target you. Let's work well together."

Paige extended her hand to Louis, a gesture of friendly reconciliation for everything in the past.

Louis took Paige's hand and shook it.

With this handshake, Paige was reconciling, and Louis was completely surrendering!

It was a complete farewell to his past admiration for Paige.

Putting away his admiration, he was left with only loyalty, staying in the position he should be in.

After letting go of her hand, Louis said, "I will sort out Grandma's jewelry. She said she wanted to leave it to you, so it's yours. If you don't want to take it, I'll open a safe deposit box and store it for you. If I'm not mistaken, some of that jewelry should belong to Mom. I think you would want that part. I'll have the servants who are familiar with these things sort it out and set it aside for you."

Paige hadn't thought of that. She definitely wanted Luna's jewelry.

Paige said, "Wait, I'll go take a look."

Paige had no interest in Margaret's jewelry, but she wanted Luna's belongings.

Although their value couldn't compare to Margaret's things.

After Luna passed away, those things originally fell into Xena's hands. After Xena died, everything went to Margaret.

Paige roughly recognized which jewelry belonged to Luna. When she went to Margaret's room, the items had already been sorted and placed there for easy inventory and verification.

After entering, Paige looked around and found a set of sapphire jewelry that Luna particularly liked. When she was a child, Paige heard Luna say that she wore it as a hostess at her wedding.

Paige also saw another set of Luna's most precious jewelry.

Taking out the two sets of jewelry, Paige looked at them in her hands and finally handed the more expensive set to Louis.

Louis was surprised. "Why are you giving this to me?"

Paige said, "This is the jewelry your parents wore at their wedding. I'll keep the other set, and this one is for you. In the future, you can give it to your wife or daughter as a legacy."

Paige initially wanted to keep everything for herself, but in the end, she couldn't bear it.

Louis was innocent too. He didn't even have the chance to call Luna "Mom." Paige couldn't completely monopolize everything of Luna's; she had already received too much from Luna.

Louis looked at Paige, not reaching out to take it for a long time.

Paige simply shoved the jewelry box into Louis's hands, "She is your biological mother. Her things should rightfully be inherited by you."

When Paige let go, Louis still held the box in his hands.

Paige had already turned and walked out. She really had no interest in Margaret's jewelry, no matter how valuable it was. She didn't even take a second look.

But Louis, holding the box Paige handed him, looked down at it in a daze, not coming back to his senses for a long time.

When Luna passed away, he was only taken by Francesca to forcibly mourn her, watching from a distance as Luna was buried.

He didn't have more opportunities to interact with Luna.

Now, holding the jewelry she wore at her wedding, Louis felt a very magical sensation.

Paige was right; keeping it as a memento.

The items were still very precious, well-preserved over the years, with no traces of time.

Luna was gone, but these things remained as new.

Louis put the jewelry aside and instructed others. "After inventory, open a safe deposit box and store everything."

Paige had probably experienced enough partings of life and death, so she understood better than Louis how to remember.
