Chapter 347 Why Make Things Difficult for Yourself?
Raymond wanted to use Louis and have him take over Bradley's position, so naturally, he couldn't avoid this truth.
Raymond looked at Louis and clearly told him, "I am the one you need to be subordinate to."
Louis clearly heard what Raymond said.
In an instant, Louis suddenly understood why Raymond never wanted to compete for the CEO position of Hawke Corporation.
In a moment, Louis also seemed to have a vague understanding of why Raymond appeared to have never given up on his relationship with Paige.
The position he was taking over should have been Paige's, but since Paige married Raymond, she no longer needed the CEO position at Hawke Corporation.
So, he was essentially taking over Bradley's position.
He was subordinate to Raymond. That meant Bradley was also subordinate to Raymond.
Then the relationship between Raymond and Paige.
Louis suddenly stared into Raymond's eyes; this was the truth.
No wonder Raymond was certain that he and Paige would have descendants and showed no signs of worry.
So this was the truth!
In the past, he thought his competition with Raymond was merely a matter of age. Now, looking back, their statuses were fundamentally incomparable.
For so many years, he had considered Raymond his imaginary enemy, but he never thought he didn't even have the qualification to compete whether in career or in love.
This sense of defeat surged over Louis, making it hard for him to bear.
Raymond, however, pressed on. "What? Unwilling? Do you think your ambitions and aspirations can be realized by a small family like the Sackler family? Don't you want bigger opportunities and prospects?"
Louis said, "This matter is too big; I might not be able to decide."
Although he returned to the Sackler family to take on his responsibilities, he feared he couldn't make such a big decision to make the entire Sackler family subordinate.
Louis didn't dare to make such a big decision on his own.
Raymond raised his wrist to check the time. "You have half an hour to consider."
He didn't have much time to waste here, and at this moment, Charles had probably already arranged everything, just waiting for him to arrive and fly directly to Arcadia.
Although there was no evidence of Paige's whereabouts, he was certain she had gone to Arcadia.
Louis asked, "Half an hour?"
Raymond said, "Only half an hour. The plane is already waiting; I need to see Paige."
Louis's eyes lowered slightly, and his expression changed a bit.
Raymond continued, "If you accept, your original work at Hawke Corporation will remain unchanged. The shares that belong to you, Francesca will give them to you later."
When Raymond mentioned Francesca, Louis couldn't help but ask, "How is my mom? Is she in good health?"
Over the years, apart from being kidnapped, this was probably the longest time Louis had been separated from Francesca.
Raymond said, "It seems you still intend to continue being mother and son."
Louis replied, "A foster mother is also a mother."
Both he and Francesca might have had ruthless moments, but the mother-son bond was real.
Raymond nodded, "I have to say, your connection with the Carnegie family is indeed deep, which is one reason you were chosen. Alright, two minutes less now."
Louis took out his phone. "I need to make a call."
Raymond extended his hand. "Go ahead."
Louis walked out and called Margaret, explaining the situation in the simplest terms.
Margaret was completely unprepared for the Carnegie family's plans for Louis. However, recently, Margaret also knew that although Louis had left the Carnegie family, Hawke Corporation had never removed Louis from his position, nor had they made any official announcements.
It turned out that the Carnegie family had probably planned this long ago, just giving Louis some time to adapt.
Although the time seemed short, Louis still had to return to that position now.
What opinion could Margaret have?
She was already old, and countless facts had proven that her work pace could no longer keep up.
She could no longer lead the Sackler Group to new heights.
Margaret was very clear about Louis's capabilities.
So the result of this call was obvious.
Raymond gave Louis half an hour to consider, and the time was just right.
This probably also stemmed from Raymond's understanding of Louis and Margaret.
He knew exactly what they wanted and needed.
Half an hour later, Louis re-entered the office and stood in front of Raymond.
Louis asked, "If I agree to this, does it mean that for generations, we can't go back on it?"
Raymond replied, "At least three generations!"
A family that could be passed down required at least three generations of consistent beliefs and goals!
Louis curiously asked, "Grandpa, I mean, Mr. Bradley Carnegie, which generation is he?"
Raymond said, "Third generation."
Gregory had already passed away, and Paige had unexpectedly married Raymond.
Louis understood that if it weren't for this, he wouldn't have had this opportunity.
Louis said, "I discussed it with my grandma, and the Sackler family is willing to become a subordinate family to the Carnegie family."
Raymond said, "Very well. From now on, this position is yours again. You are well aware of your work at Hawke Corporation, what to do, and how to do it, just like before. However, as for the Sackler family, whatever plans or actions you have, wait for now."
Louis didn't understand. The Sackler family had very promising projects. Waiting would mean missing out on profits, wouldn't it?
Louis asked, "Why should I wait? If we integrate the Sackler Group's projects into Hawke Corporation, many projects can start now."
Raymond said, "Wait for Paige's instructions."
With one sentence, Raymond successfully defeated Louis again.
Louis thought about it and agreed. Paige had previously retaliated against the Sackler family so fiercely that it broke their financial chain.
The Sackler Group was in a difficult situation and couldn't easily regain its former glory.
As for Paige's current attitude towards the Sackler family, it was still unknown, so when Raymond said to wait for Paige's instructions, Louis understood.
He nodded, "I understand."
Raymond said, "You've been part of the Carnegie family for so many years, and in the future, you'll still be considered part of the Carnegie family. Once things settle down, I'll bring you back into the family. I imagine by then, Mrs. Sackler will give you a new identity and name."
Louis replied, "It's already in progress."
Raymond smiled, "Alright, no need for extra words. Paige is waiting for me."
After speaking, Raymond patted Louis on the shoulder and then left.
Louis watched Raymond's back until he was out of sight.
At this moment, Louis turned to look at his very familiar CEO office.
Every corner of this office was extremely familiar to him, whereas the Sackler family felt very foreign.
Returning here, even though he knew his identity had nothing to do with the Carnegie family, he still felt a deep, inseparable connection to the Carnegie family.
Louis walked towards the chair, placed his hand on the backrest, applied a bit of force to spin the chair around, and then sat down.
It was a familiar feeling!
Although it was the same position and the same familiar feeling, his identity was completely different now.
Sitting in this familiar position, Louis had a completely different mindset. In the past, he was the master of this position.
Now, he was merely a subordinate in this position.
But despite this, Louis still hoped to stay in this position. He wanted to protect Paige and Francesca and atone for his sins.
It turned out that fate had long been decided. He had schemed against Paige for his own status, and now he had to spend a lifetime repaying it.
The exchange of their backgrounds meant he enjoyed a prosperous life in the Carnegie family, while Paige suffered in the Sackler family.
Repaying with three generations was only fair!
Most importantly, the Sackler family would be different from now on.
Perhaps his biological father was willing to make the exchange to ensure the Sackler family's status.
Steven was no longer around, and Louis couldn't ask him if sending him to the Carnegie family was part of such a plan.
But now, Louis had truly agreed to become a subordinate family to the Carnegies.
Looking out from the 360-degree panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, Northwind was still the same and the night view was no different from before.
But Louis knew everything had changed.
Raymond left Hawke Corporation and glanced back at the building.
He was leaving it to Louis to manage. Louis was very familiar with Hawke Corporation's operations.
Handing over Hawke Corporation to Louis at this time, Raymond believed no one could do it better.
As Raymond started driving, Charles called.
Raymond pressed the answer button on the steering wheel. "Is everything ready?"
Charles replied, "Mr. Raymond Carnegie, Mr. Bradley Carnegie, everything is ready. We're heading to the airstrip."
Raymond said, "Alright, I'll meet you there."
At the airstrip.
Raymond had arranged for a cargo plane, as the small helipad on Hawke Corporation's rooftop couldn't accommodate it.
They had to use a dedicated airstrip temporarily, and both parties were heading there to meet.
Raymond was a bit farther away, so by the time he arrived, Bradley, Charles, and the others were already there.
Everyone was waiting outside the airstrip because Raymond hadn't arrived yet, so no one had boarded the plane.
Bradley, Sean, and many capable servants from the Carnegie Manor were all there.
Besides the family members, a team responsible for Bradley and Raymond's safety was also lined up.
Additionally, the flight crew was assembled, waiting for Raymond.
When Raymond drove up, he didn't get out to greet everyone but drove directly into the plane through the path cleared by the lined-up teams.
After parking the car precisely in the designated spot, Raymond opened the door, and the car automatically locked into place.
Next to Raymond's car was a familiar sports car, which was Paige liked.
Paige had left in a hurry and didn't take the car, so Raymond brought it along.
Raymond glanced at the car, a smile forming on his lips.
After Raymond boarded, everyone else began boarding and taking their positions.
Bradley approached Raymond and asked, "Is everything arranged? Did he accept?"
Raymond nodded, "Did he have any other choice?"
Bradley laughed, "Good. With his and the Sackler family's guilt towards Paige, they will surely be loyal to you and Paige in the future."
Raymond asked, "Is the residence in Arcadia all set up?"
Bradley replied, "Of course. Do you still doubt my arrangements?"
Raymond said, "I mean, with new family members coming, aren't you preparing rooms?"
Bradley beamed, "Of course, everything is ready. After all, this is my descendant."
Bradley had been very happy recently. What he most wanted to see was Raymond having descendants.
Now, Raymond's descendants were also his, and that feeling was simply wonderful.
Raymond suddenly smiled and walked towards the front cabin.
Once everything was ready, the rear cargo door closed, and the plane took off.
Paige was trying to adjust her emotions, but it was hard to get into a working state.
Pearl and the others seemed to notice Paige's bad mood, so after having some snacks, they didn't plan to continue working.
Pearl brought some things herself, knocked on the study door, and said, "Ms. Ellison, I'm coming in."
After speaking, Pearl opened the door with one hand while holding the tray with the other.
Paige was still sitting on the sofa. The knock seemed to interrupt her thoughts, and she turned to look. "Why are you here alone?"
Pearl smiled as she walked over. "The kitchen made some desserts today. We all thought they were good. Ms. Ellison, you should try them. If you like them, we can have them make more next time."
As she spoke, Pearl set the items down and poured Paige a glass of milk.
Now that Paige was pregnant, her diet was particularly important.
It wasn't easy to pull herself out of such extreme sadness.
Paige took a bite of the dessert, but her stomach churned, and she felt uncomfortable.
Seeing this, Pearl quickly brought over a trash can.
Paige said, "I can't eat it. Forget it."
Pearl looked at Paige with concern. If it weren't for the issue of identity, and if Mr. Raymond Carnegie were by her side, perhaps things would be completely different.
Pearl said, "Ms. Ellison, you don't have to make things so hard for yourself. Why do this?"
