Chapter 188 Xanthe Ellison
Margaret and Xena exchanged glances, and Margaret had a brief moment of suspicion.
But she quickly brushed it off—no way Xanthe could be the woman related to Paige. Xena didn't think much of it either, assuming it was just a coincidence. Both of them dismissed the idea as the phone kept ringing with no answer.
Pearl looked at Paige, who gave a slight nod and held out her hand. With everyone watching, Pearl handed the ringing phone to Paige, who answered it.
Xena initially watched Paige but then turned her attention back to her own phone once the call connected.
Xena quickly asked, "Hello, Xanthe. We're already waiting at the Serenity Heights Hotel. When will you be arriving?"
Paige held the phone, her eyes locked on Xena, who noticed but didn't react.
Paige smiled faintly and said into the phone, "I'm already here. Miss Sackler, you haven't noticed?"
Margaret was stunned the moment Paige spoke.
Xena, hearing Paige's voice both from the phone and right next to her, was completely thrown off.
Xena couldn't believe it. She turned to face Paige and asked into the phone, "Are you joking?"
Paige smiled slightly at Xena, holding the phone like a walkie-talkie, not needing to hear what Xena was saying through the receiver.
With a hint of mockery, she said into the phone, "Aren't you the one joking? Didn't you ask security to escort me out?"
Xena finally got it. She hung up the phone and quickly walked over to Paige, pointing at her and demanding, "Paige, what are you up to? Where did you get that phone? What are you trying to do?"
Margaret had a bad feeling but couldn't put it into words. She couldn't believe there could be any connection between Paige and the Universe Group.
Paige slowly stood up and gently handed the phone back to Pearl.
Pearl kept this phone and reviewed many matters before informing Paige. Paige didn't need to answer this phone directly.
Pearl took the phone and asked Xena, "Does the voice sound unfamiliar? How about now? Does it sound more familiar?"
With that, Pearl demonstrated a rejection script.
Xena and Margaret's hearts raced. Yes, they were very familiar with that voice.
Margaret stepped forward and asked, "How could this be? What's going on?"
Xena still couldn't believe that the person she sought could have any connection with Paige, and she couldn't accept this fact.
So, Xena snapped and yelled, "Paige, you're shameless. Where'd you get a fake number to trick me?"
Paige's face darkened. Xena was too dense to realize she wasn't being deceived. Clearly, Xena had come to her, and now she didn't believe it and blamed her. What a joke!
Paige sneered. "Since you think I'm a fraud, I'll just leave."
She started to walk away, but Margaret suddenly called out, "Wait."
Paige turned and asked, "What else do you have to say?"
Margaret asked, "Where did you get the phone you were holding just now?"
Paige chuckled. "What? You think my phone is to deceive you?"
Margaret pressed, "Do you know who we were calling with that phone?"
Paige replied, "You don't know who you were calling or who answered, and you're asking me? Haven't you considered that the person you're looking for might be me?"
This time, before Xena could speak, Margaret couldn't hold back. "Impossible! How could it be you? We know your background and identity better than anyone."
Pearl couldn't stay quiet any longer. "Ladies, could your view of someone be outdated?"
Saying this, Pearl waved the phone in her hand. "Haven't you checked whose name is associated with the number you dialed?"
Margaret had checked. "The phone number belongs to Xanthe Ellison, the CEO of the Universe Group. As for why it's in your hands..."
Before Margaret could finish, Pearl smiled. "Would the CEO of the Universe Group lend her phone to someone else?"
Amelia finally understood who she had allied with. She had suspected a connection between Paige and the Universe Group, but she never imagined that Paige was actually Xanthe. It was unbelievable.
At this moment, Amelia felt excited and happy. And she found the situation with Margaret and Xena even more dramatic. The Sackler family would likely regret this in the future!
Pearl took out Paige's ID and said, "I'm sorry, Xanthe just returned to work and hasn't had a chance to make a public appearance. But I can show you her ID."
Pearl showed them Xanthe's ID, shocking Margaret to see Paige's photo with the name Xanthe Ellison. Margaret had only one thought, 'This isn't real.'
Xena, on the other hand, shouted, "This isn't real. This is a forgery. This must be a fake ID. Paige, do you know the penalty for forging an ID?"
