Chapter 280 They All Confessed

Paige knew Raymond was nudging her to get some rest. She glanced at the clock; it was pretty late.

She turned off the screen showing Xena on her phone. Watching Xena's struggles helped her deal with her own pain, but she knew she couldn't keep doing it. It was time to call it a night.

As she opened the door and stepped out of the study, Raymond stood at the door with a smile. He softened his voice and asked, "Are you doing okay?"

Paige shook off her doubts, pulled herself together, and nodded at Raymond. "Hey, I'm not that fragile. I'm gonna go freshen up first."

Raymond nodded, grabbed a book, and headed to the room, waiting for Paige to finish up before joining her for sleep.

Paige hadn't been sleeping well lately, so Raymond stayed close, ready to comfort her if she stirred.

That night, Paige slept soundly in Raymond's arms. But she woke up super early the next morning.

Breakfast was an hour earlier than usual. After eating, Paige grabbed the car keys and told Raymond, "I need to hit the hospital today. Elijah's doing better, and I need to ask him some stuff. I want to drive myself."

That was her way of saying she didn't want anyone tagging along, not even Raymond. He didn't mind and handed her the keys. He'd been driving and holding onto them for the past few days.

As he gave her the keys, Raymond said, "Nothing's worth losing your cool and neglecting yourself."

Paige got what he meant and nodded. She took the keys and drove straight to the hospital.

In front of Elijah's room, Julian's guys nodded respectfully. Julian had been hanging around a lot, worried something else might go wrong.

Seeing Julian around and after the whole Luna incident, none of his men dared to slack off.

When Paige walked in, Elijah didn't notice her right away. He took a bite of the breakfast the nurse was feeding him. When he saw Paige, he flinched like he had PTSD.

Elijah was terrified of Paige after she beat him. He didn't dare spit out the food he just took in, but he couldn't swallow it either, feeling like it was stuck in his throat. Suddenly, Elijah started choking and coughing like crazy.

Paige turned her head, waiting for him to calm down. After the nurse cleaned up, she left, catching Paige's look.

Alone with Paige, Elijah got even more nervous. His fear wasn't just due to the beating, but also because the Trump Family had abandoned him!

Seeing Elijah like that, Paige had a pretty good idea of what was going on in his head. She hadn't checked on him these past few days, but she knew he must be having a rough time.

She casually sat down on the sofa, not making any move to get closer or pressure him. "You went through all that trouble to get Xena out of the country. Too bad she still ended up in my hands. Bet you never thought it would happen so fast. Everything you did was not only pointless but also helped me find the perfect place to mess with her."

Paige watched Elijah, studying his reaction. Sure enough, when he heard Xena was caught by her, his face fell.

"Why aren't you saying anything?" Paige flicked her hair a bit, still staring at Elijah.

Maybe out of fear, Elijah didn't dare disobey when she told him to talk. He was shaking, clearly nervous, but still in disbelief.

"No way. Xena got out of the country. How could you have caught her abroad?"

Paige smiled, "I have a friend along that route who intercepted her. By the way, wanna know how Xena's been these past few days?"

Before Elijah could say anything, Paige had already pulled out her phone, connected it to the TV in the room, and started playing a video from the previous night. It showed Xena locked in a saline pool, her screams and pained expressions clear as day on the screen. Elijah recognized her instantly.

"How could this happen to Xena? I spent so much money to find her a safe route and even had people escort her. This can't be." Elijah stumbled out of bed and walked towards the TV, his disbelief almost comical to Paige.

"All your efforts were for nothing, huh? Tonight, when I talk to Xena, I'll ask her what she really thinks about you. She used you and the Trump Family without a second thought. Can she really live with herself after escaping? Or maybe she doesn't care about you at all. But last night, during my chat with her, she let something slip. Elijah, what did you catch when you two sneaked into my mom's room?"

Elijah's eyes were still glued to the TV, unable to snap out of it. He was starting to realize just how terrifying Paige was. Even while she was in Northwind, she could torment Xena to this extent.

Elijah looked at Paige, remembering how she used to be just a naive country girl before she was sent to prison. What had she done during those five years to become this powerful and scary?

Elijah took a few steps back, visibly shaken. His voice trembled, "Are you going to do the same to me?"

Paige said, "If you don't cooperate, you'll get what you deserve. The Trump Family has abandoned you and handed your life over to me. It's your choice."

Elijah shook his head, fearfully looking at Paige, "I'll tell you everything. I was the one who brought her out. She said she wanted to see Margaret one last time at the hospital. She  wanted to see Margaret before leaving since Margaret treated her so well, so I didn't think much of it. But she was scared of running into people, especially you. So after we got to the hospital, I was supposed to keep an eye out for you while she went to see Margaret. I wanted to go with her, but when I saw you come back to the hospital, I quickly got two people to block you. While Xena was there, I was on the other side making sure you didn't get through. I didn't know what she did in the room.

Elijah explained, "When I rushed upstairs to find her, I only saw her coming out of your mom's room. By then, you were already upstairs, so I just pulled her away. I really don't know what she said. I just remember that when you wanted her to do a compatibility test with your mom, she begged me to buy her a certain drug."

Paige immediately interrupted, "What drug? What did she want to do? Was it the poison to kill my mom? Did she want to kill her during the compatibility test?"

Elijah replied, "No, I couldn't get any poison. It was just a drug to weaken the patient. She thought that if your mom's condition got worse, she wouldn't be able to undergo the kidney transplant. But she didn't succeed. You were watching her closely, and she didn't get a chance. That's all."

Paige clenched her fist slightly. "Did you know about the poison Xena used to kill my mom?"

Elijah shook his head frantically, "I really didn't know."

Paige looked at him, realizing there was no more useful information to get.

Paige said to Elijah, "The Trump Family's ruthlessness truly runs in the blood. Being kicked out might be a good thing for you."

With that, Paige left. Coincidentally, she ran into Margaret in the hallway.
