Chapter 393 His Identity
The coincidence of the events made Paige have to think in this direction.
Andrew was just planning to use Paige's identity to create trouble, and now this disfigured man directly said she wasn't part of the Ellison family.
Her identity was known to only a few people. If this man wasn't colluding with Andrew, how could he possibly know she wasn't part of the Ellison family?
Speaking so decisively, the only thing Paige could think of was that he was also involved.
The disfigured man said, "Your identity as part of the Ellison family is fake. Once your identity is exposed, you won't have the qualification to cooperate with us and share this map."
Paige coldly smiled and probed further. "The partner you want is Raymond. He isn't part of the five major families."
This disfigured man had access to so many secret funding clues and found the map. Paige didn't know how much he knew. If he even knew that Raymond was from the Carnegie family, one of the five major families, then his existence was truly terrifying.
The disfigured man looked at Raymond and smiled. "The Carnegie family of Northwind has the power and wealth to go further in all of Quorinthus."
Paige and Raymond exchanged a glance.
Paige smiled. "You don't understand the five major families well enough. You probably don't know how exclusive they are."
The disfigured man seemed to smile, too. But with his disfigured face, it was hard to see any expression.
"The one who doesn't understand is you. You must have found the map, right? I have other maps in my hand that you really want, don't you? The same condition applies. I can only give the other clues and maps to Mr. Carnegie."
The disfigured man remained insistent.
Paige lost some patience. "No need to sow discord. Since I caught you, where the remaining clues and maps are doesn't matter at all. In the end, they will all be mine."
After saying this, Paige turned and left the room.
Raymond stayed behind. The two hadn't discussed it beforehand, but with one look, they knew what the other was thinking.
Paige walked out, but Raymond didn't follow. The disfigured man smiled. "What, Mr. Carnegie, are you interested in my proposal?"
Raymond said, "I feel like I've seen you before. I wonder if we've met somewhere?"
The disfigured man replied, "Such small talk is useless to me. If Mr. Carnegie is interested in that secret fund, you should sever ties with Ms. Ellison as soon as possible."
Raymond said, "Sever ties? We are legally married and have a child together. Your request is a bit excessive. Moreover, with the Ellison family, wouldn't it be more legitimate for us to take the secret fund? That money can't be obtained by anyone outside the five major families. Since you have so many clues and map fragments, you should know the ultimate secret of that secret fund."
The man said, "Divorce her and expose her as not being part of the Ellison family."
Raymond replied, "As a man, do you think it's appropriate to treat your wife this way?"
The man's silence followed Raymond's question.
Raymond smiled. "It seems that if you were in my place, you couldn't do it either. I wonder if you have a loved one. If you do, I feel happy for her."
After saying this, Raymond didn't continue probing and turned to leave.
As expected, Paige had taken a few steps and was waiting outside.
Seeing Raymond come out, she lowered her voice, "What's his situation? Does he want to break us up like Francesca did?"
Raymond smiled, "He has a similar choice to Francesca. It can be considered together. By the way, how's the situation with the message we sent out?"
Paige shook her head. "No movement at all. The people behind him don't seem to want to rescue him."
Raymond said, "I don't know why, but I feel like I've seen this man somewhere. By the way, look at the scars on his face. What caused them?"
Paige shook her head. "It looks like burns, but the burn area is strange. It's only on his face, not a single extra inch on his neck."
As Paige finished speaking, Selene, who had been standing quietly and speaking little, spoke up. "I know."
Paige and Raymond both looked at her.
Selene knew they were waiting for her to continue and didn't keep them in suspense. "It's a mask."
Paige immediately understood. "A mask developed by the tech department?"
Selene replied, "Yes, that mask technology is still not fully mature, but judging by his facial scars, it must have been many years. If he wore that mask many years ago, it would have burned his face. Wearing it continuously would cause continuous burns. Old wounds overlapping new ones would result in this effect."
Paige said, "To get the tech department's mask from the Universe Group, know the clues stored in the wine cellar of the Ellison Villa, and know that I'm not part of the Ellison family."
As Paige spoke, she looked at Raymond.
Raymond had just said he felt like he had seen this man before.
Raymond was trying hard to remember, but he couldn't recall.
Seeing Raymond unable to remember, Paige immediately called out, "Pearl, Pearl!"
Pearl had just finished dealing with the wine cellar and came over immediately upon hearing Paige's voice.
Pearl said, "Ms. Ellison, what are your orders?"
Paige asked, "Have the masks from the tech department ever been sold since development?"
Pearl replied, "The technology is still not very mature, so they haven't been sold externally. Only internal personnel have used them experimentally on a small scale. The number of people is very small. Why?"
Paige ordered, "Get me the records immediately."
Pearl said, "Yes, I'll have them send the records right away."
Paige added, "I want all the records of the developed masks, whether consumed or scrapped, all of them!"
Pearl nodded and immediately called the tech department to send the records.
These were all documented, so it wouldn't take much time to retrieve and send them.
Sure enough, within ten minutes, the records were sent over.
Paige first looked through the list of people who had used the masks. She recognized some names, and for the others, she asked Selene to confirm if anyone had been disfigured by using the masks.
Selene shook her head. "The Universe Group is humane. They wouldn't knowingly use immature mask technology that would harm the user's face. Even for assassins like me, no one has been disfigured."
Paige set aside the records of those who had used the masks and then looked at the records of the scrapped masks.
Scanning from top to bottom, she found that some masks were missing.
Paige immediately pointed to the missing entry. "How could masks go missing? And in Northwind? What's the situation?"
Pearl looked closely and said. "I'll investigate immediately!"
