Chapter 285 What Xena Said Was True?
Paige said, "This is a church. You don't need to give up your room for us. You and Raymond can share a room, and I'll be fine with Francesca."
Francesca felt a bit awkward, but the words of refusal got stuck in her throat.
Seeing Francesca hesitating, Paige made the decision. "Since Francesca has no objections, let's arrange it this way."
After dinner, Louis pulled Francesca aside. "Mom, why don't we go back home tonight? I'm really not comfortable with Paige staying alone with you tonight."
It wasn't that Louis thought Paige would do anything, but he knew how important Luna was to Paige, and he was aware of what Francesca had done.
If Paige really went after Francesca, Louis didn't know what the consequences would be.
Francesca didn't even think about it and directly rejected Louis's suggestion. "You shouldn't have come, and you shouldn't have looked for me."
Louis really couldn't understand. "What can you do by staying here? Can it ease your guilt? Luna's death was caused by Xena. It wasn't intentional on your part, so why do you have to stay here? Do you think Paige will let you go if you stay here? If she wanted to let you go, she wouldn't have shown up here today. She followed so quickly, clearly to tell you that she's not done with you."
Louis knew Paige well; she wouldn't easily let Francesca off the hook!
Tonight, if Paige stayed in the same room with Francesca, Louis felt it would be very dangerous.
But Francesca seemed completely unaware of the danger.
Francesca said, "If she wants my life, let her take it. That's it, I'm leaving."
Louis said a lot, but in the end, Francesca just left with a light remark.
Louis stood there, bewildered, not even knowing if he should forcibly take her away. Maybe if he took Francesca away, it would save some trouble and spare him the anxiety.
Just when Louis was at a loss, a voice behind him interrupted his thoughts. "Do you think I want her life?"
The sudden voice in the quiet night of the church made him turn around abruptly. "Paige?"
She was supposed to be with Raymond, but she came out alone to see him.
Paige said, "Louis, do you think I would kill her to avenge my mom?"
Louis said, "I don't know. I only know that you won't let anyone who hurt you off the hook, including me. You've never let me off either."
If it weren't for him volunteering to donate a kidney to Luna, Paige might have taken a fatal blow to his career. After all, he had schemed against Paige for his career before.
Paige said, "You used to say you liked me, that you loved me. But actually, Louis, I think you're afraid of me!"
Louis replied, "No, she's my mom. You should be the one who understands my upbringing the most. After my father passed away, she and I were also forced to separate. Like you, I was forced to live in the countryside. You longed to return to your family, and I longed for the same. She is my closest family, Paige. She didn't mean to hurt Luna."
Paige said, "That's why she's still alive."
Paige left this remark and walked in the direction Francesca had left.
Louis pondered Paige's words, wondering if it meant she wouldn't harm Francesca.
Paige found Francesca in the prayer room, praying like a devout believer.
Paige just stood at the door watching.
Francesca never turned around, so she didn't know Paige was behind her.
Paige waited for a while, but Francesca remained still.
Paige simply walked in and stood beside Francesca. "You are respected. How could you suddenly come to the church to become a nun without any explanation? Is there something you can't let go of, something you want to confess to God?"
Paige's words almost directly implied: Are you feeling guilty for causing Luna's death and seeking peace of mind?
Francesca, being smart, could easily catch Paige's underlying meaning. "Paige, you're blaming me, aren't you? Although Xena poisoned Luna, I gave her the opportunity. Yes, you have every right to blame me. I blame myself too. Why was I so unlucky to encounter such a thing? I really didn't mean it, but Luna still died. During this time, I..."
Before Francesca could finish, Paige turned to her. "Francesca, since you say you can't get over it, can you tell me in front of God why you had to see my mom? And why did you have to drug all the security and medical staff? Given the circumstances, even if you say it was unintentional, anyone would think you had ulterior motives!"
Francesca was shaken by Paige's words.
Her heart raced. She just didn't want Louis and Luna to go through with the kidney transplant.
Francesca closed her eyes slightly. "I already feel very guilty. So guilty that I haven't eat or slept recently. I feel her death is inextricably linked to me. But Paige, that's not what's driving me crazy. Why, I want to know why, did God play such a cruel joke on me? Now, you're also making things difficult for me. I know I deserve it, I deserve to be in this situation."
Paige didn't intend to let Francesca off so easily and continued, "I've already found Xena, you know? Xena heard what you said to my mom in the hospital room."
Paige stopped abruptly.
The cross that Francesca had been holding fell to the ground.
Seeing Francesca's obvious panic and guilt, Paige frowned deeply, thinking, 'Could it be that what Xena said was true?'
