Chapter 201 Cherished Mrs. Carnegie
It was time to settle some scores, and there were quite a few. Raymond thought Paige was only worried about Lily. But out of nowhere, Paige brought up Windrain Tower too.
Raymond had known for ages that Paige was the woman he had pulled into Windrain Tower. He never held it against her for giving him just a dollar!
"The whole Windrain Tower thing." Raymond still held Paige, trying to charm his way out of the mess. He went on, "Babe, don't you think we're meant to be? Louis drugged me, which led to us getting close. Then you ran out of my room and bumped into Ethan. It just shows that in this lifetime, you can't escape; you're meant to be my wife."
Raymond's words hit the mark. At least, it got the conversation off track a bit. Paige was shocked. "What? Louis was in on this too?"
Raymond didn't hesitate to throw Louis under the bus. He nodded. "Remember how Ethan was so eager to set me up with someone? He wanted me to settle down and start a family fast. He even pulled strings to bring influential young ladies to Windrain Tower to date me.''Raymond continued, ''Louis was probably worried I'd get engaged to someone with a powerful background, making it harder for him to find his place in Hawke Corporation. So, he drugged me. He probably lined up some average girl for me, but you ended up at my door, so..."
Raymond then switched gears. "Babe, is my skill really only worth a dollar?"
When it came to guys, one could criticize their looks, but never their skills. Raymond had been hung up on that one-dollar thing for a long time.
Paige stayed quiet, thinking, 'How could someone always steer the conversation in such a sneaky way? Is he hoping I'd slip up and fall into his trap?'
Seeing Raymond's hopeful look, Paige calmly said, "Mr. Carnegie, aren't you curious about how things would have turned out if it wasn't me that day? And seriously, when did you figure out it was me?"
Raymond took a deep breath. He couldn't dodge the topic anymore. Paige wasn't easy to fool. So he continued, "I recognized you pretty early on, but I swear, at first, I really thought you were one of Louis's, so I was a bit cautious and didn't reveal my identity to you."
Paige asked, "Were you scared I was a woman sent by Louis to mess with you because I had no money or power? Maybe even scam you out of a ton of money and then disappear?"
Raymond analyzed, "I don't think that's very likely. You are too smart for that. How much is a ton of money? Compared to the Carnegie family's wealth, it's just a drop in the bucket."
Paige shot back, "Maybe I'm not that ambitious. Just enough money to live a happy life. Maybe I'd run away afterward?"
Raymond went quiet. Luckily, Paige wasn't short on cash! Otherwise, he might've been left in the dust.
Paige pressed on, "You still haven't answered me. If it were another woman, what would you do?"
Raymond fell silent again. This question was a minefield. He carefully replied, "The drug wasn't enough to make me completely lose my mind. What made me lose my mind was you."
Paige looked up, just staring at Raymond. Gotta admit, Raymond really knew how to sweet-talk. This was an answer Paige hadn't expected, but she was really satisfied with it.
Even though Paige herself was under the influence of the drug that day, causing him to be in that state, same as Raymond. Paige looked at Raymond. "Mr. Carnegie, you work so hard to answer these questions."
Raymond held Paige close, whispering in her ear, "Mrs. Carnegie, do you know how torturous every day at Windrain Tower was? I couldn't wait to run back to you every night. I've made up my mind, no matter what, I will never be separated from you again."
Paige was repeatedly amused by Raymond. "Mr. Carnegie, are you that free? You've already stood up from the wheelchair. Every day from now on, you'll be the most watched person in Northwind. Are you sure you won't be separated from me?"
Raymond tightly embraced Paige. "Being with you won't make the entire Northwind be insanely jealous?"
Paige laughed so much that she almost forgot about Lily. Raymond's skills in charming his wife were truly top-notch! Taking advantage of Paige's laughter, Raymond decisively picked her up and walked out.
All the guests were waiting outside for news. They had just seen Raymond's bodyguards take Lily and Oliver away, tied up. Some onlookers were still confused when the door opened again, and this time it was Raymond carrying Paige, both looking radiant.
All eyes were on Raymond and Paige. Some even took out their phones to capture the moment of Raymond and Paige.
The news of Raymond standing up was enough to shock the entire Northwind high society. And today, it was mixed with Lily being taken away and Raymond carrying Paige out of the wedding venue.
Without looking around, Raymond directly carried Paige to the car. Just as Charles was about to close the door, Raymond said, "Keep today's events sealed!"
Involving two foreign assassins and secret funds, Raymond couldn't risk letting the news spread. Charles nodded. "Rest assured, Mr. Carnegie."
The car started, and Raymond directly said, "Head to Willow Crest Estate." After speaking, Raymond turned to hold Paige, kissing her lips uncontrollably.
