Chapter 203 Paige is Afraid of Pain

Pearl filled Raymond in on everything about the Sackler family and the recent drama with Luna, leaving him deep in thought.

Quickly, Pearl added, "Actually, Xanthe's already made a move against the Sacklers. They're in a real bind right now. No one's stepping in to help once they realize the Universe Group's got them in their sights."

Raymond nodded. "Got it." If it weren't for the Sacklers doing some favors for the Carnegie family in the past, their situation might be even worse now.

Given the Sacklers' current mess, the Carnegies naturally wouldn't kick them while they're down. But Louis had no plans to help out. In the business world, a big issue like this with the Sacklers wouldn't have slipped past Louis. The fact that he was staying quiet meant he didn't want to get involved.

Plus, considering Louis and Xena's past engagement, his silence clearly showed he wanted to keep his distance. With that kind of signal, nobody dared help the Sackler Group when the Universe Group's gunning for them and the Hawke Corporation's staying out of it.

And if the Sacklers went down, it would free up resources, giving other families a shot to rise. Every time a big family fell, it was a chance for others to step up. So, anyone with an opportunity like this wouldn't let it slip by. No wonder the Sacklers were clinging to their past favors with the Carnegies, hoping for help.It was already noon when Paige woke up. Raymond had kept the curtains closed, making the room dark so Paige could sleep better.

The physical exhaustion, combined with the hard work of the past few days and the overexertion last night, made Paige sleep like a log. After a good sleep, Paige felt refreshed when she got up.

As Paige came downstairs, Raymond was just coming out of the dining room. Seeing him, Paige asked curiously, "Haven't seen you for a few days, and now you're a chef?"

Raymond walked over with a smile, leaned close to her ear, and whispered, "Didn't you say you were in pain last night? I had the restaurant whip up some nutritious stuff."

Paige blushed at his first sentence. She looked around, worried someone might hear and get embarrassed. "Stop talking nonsense, there are still people in the house."

Paige slapped Raymond's chest, and he took the chance to grab her hand. "They can't hear me if I talk softly." The nearby servants quickly moved away after hearing this.

Paige said, "Mr. Carnegie, can't you behave? How come I never noticed you were so cheeky before?"

Raymond looked at Paige, still smiling. "How am I cheeky? I even called Sean for the recipe."

At this point, Paige suddenly had a bad feeling and asked, "How did you ask over the phone?"

Raymond answered honestly, "I just asked Sean if there were any nutritious drinks good for women."

Paige eyed him suspiciously. "Did you really ask like that?"

Raymond grinned. "Of course, how else would I ask?"

Paige took a deep breath, relieved he didn't say anything embarrassing over the phone. Her reputation was safe, for now. Even though Raymond and Paige were married, their private life didn't need to be public knowledge.

Sighing in relief, Paige's stomach growled. She was starving. She hadn't eaten dinner last night since all the servants were off. She and Raymond were too tired to bother with food. They'd crashed as soon as they hit the bed. Now, Paige was really hungry.

Raymond heard her stomach and chuckled. "Go wait for me in the dining room, I'll get you something to eat."

Paige asked, "Is there food?"

"Of course, I knew you'd wake up around this time, so I had the restaurant prepare something. Just wait, I'll get it."

Paige was about to call a servant, but seeing Raymond head to the dining room, she held back. After seeing him in a wheelchair for so long, watching him walk filled her with unexpected joy. So, she didn't call him back.

Watching Raymond bring out a bowl from the dining room, Paige followed him and sat down. "Fish soup?" Paige was surprised. It seemed like she didn't have this at home.

Raymond said, "I asked Pearl this morning, and we didn't have it here, so I had Sean send it over. There are also some things to replenish your blood and energy. Sean said the chef at the restaurant recommended them for you."

Paige said, "Mr. Carnegie, do we really need to bring everything from the Carnegie Manor?"

Raymond replied, "It's fine, the Carnegie Manor doesn't have a mistress, and Ethan rarely eats this kind of stuff. We have plenty, and it would be a waste not to use it."

Paige took a sip and found it quite tasty, so she ate happily. Raymond sat beside her, watching. "I told the servants to prepare lunch a bit earlier today. After lunch, shall we go back to the Carnegie Manor together?"

Raymond's tone was clearly asking for her opinion. Paige paused with the spoon in her hand. "By the way, did you explain things to Dad?"

Ethan was very anxious about their 'divorce.' Now that things had settled, they needed to explain it to him. Raymond's eyes wandered. "That's why I want to take you back to the Carnegie Manor this afternoon."

Paige realized this was Raymond's way of avoiding being scolded alone. "Although Dad dotes on me, he'll probably be very angry this time since we kept this from him, right?"

Raymond didn't think so. "Most likely, he won't have time to be angry because there will be other people visiting the Carnegie family today."

Paige shifted her gaze from the bowl to Raymond. "Other people? Your expression makes it seem like I know them!"

Raymond nodded. "Indeed, it's a small world. It's okay if you don't want to go."
