Chapter 253 Are You Not Aware of What You Did?
The thought of Paige's future revenge sent a shiver down his spine. Caught between Paige and Francesca, Louis was totally lost. But he knew he had to act.
First things first, he needed to figure out if Francesca was behind all this. Was she the one who poisoned and killed Luna? That was crucial.
Louis nodded. "I can't do much here. Ms. Smith, could you please inform me before Ms. Parker's burial? I want to say goodbye one last time."
Amelia nodded. "Sure."
Louis thanked her, "Thanks. I'm gonna go find my mom and get to the bottom of this. Let's keep in touch."
Amelia nodded again. She also thought it didn't make sense for Francesca to poison Luna. Given her status, she had no reason to go that far. Even if she had a motive, murder seemed over the top. She had plenty of ways to delay the kidney transplant. They could've found another donor.
Killing Luna outright, making Paige her enemy forever, seemed unnecessary. After all, Francesca and Paige were family. They'd have to live together, so it was unlikely Francesca would be that reckless. Plus, committing murder in Northwind had serious consequences.
Amelia wondered if something else had happened after Francesca visited Luna. But she kept her thoughts to herself, not wanting to upset Paige. After Louis left, Amelia went back to the farewell hall.
Louis drove back to the Dreamland Manor. He had his own villa and only stayed there occasionally, so he wasn't sure if Francesca had come back last night. As soon as he walked in, Louis asked, "Where's my mom?"
Nicholas followed behind him, seeing how mad Louis was, he didn't dare ask much. "Mrs. Francesca Carnegie is sleeping. She took a sleeping pill last night. Please keep it down. She hasn't been sleeping well lately. Let her rest a bit longer."
Hearing this, Louis got even angrier. "Do you know what time it is? Where was she last night? Why couldn't she sleep?"
He wondered, 'Is she sleepless out of fear after committing murder?'As her son, Louis could understand Francesca's worry about his health after the kidney transplant. But Luna was a human being! And she was super important to Paige.
Just as Louis finished, Francesca's voice came from the stairs. "Why are you so loud this early?"
Hearing her voice, Louis looked over. Francesca came out in her pajamas, covered by a robe. She yawned, holding onto the handrail as she walked down the stairs.
Seeing Louis, Francesca didn't seem fazed at all. Louis marched right up to her. "Mom, how can you sleep?"
Francesca slowly made her way downstairs and looked at him. "Why shouldn't I sleep? After worrying about your stuff for so long, don't I deserve a good night's rest?"
Louis took a deep breath. "A good night's sleep? You slept too well. Were you the one who took me from the hospital last night?"
Francesca sat on the sofa, and a servant quickly brought her some water. Looking at Louis, Francesca said, a bit annoyed, "I'm your mother, and this is how you talk to me? And you're right. I did it. Did you really think I'd just stand by and watch them take one of your kidneys? Louis, you're young and have a bright future. What about Luna? She's at the end of her life. Is it worth risking your health for her?"
Louis frowned. "Mom, how can you think like that? So Ms. Parker's life doesn't matter to you?"
Francesca looked up at him. "Did I say that? She can wait for another donor, like from organ donations. A kidney transplant isn't a minor surgery. I don't want you taking any risks, got it?" Francesca poured herself a glass of water but suddenly lost her appetite.
Louis said, "Did you give her a chance to wait for another kidney? Mom, you could've used other ways to stop it, but how could you do this?"
Louis's tone got more agitated. Francesca looked at him, puzzled. "What do you mean? I took you away and told Ms. Parker I wouldn't agree to the transplant..."
Before she could finish, Louis said, "Don't you know? Ms. Parker is no longer with us."
Francesca's chest tightened. "No longer with us? What do you mean?"
Louis stood there, emotional. "It means she's dead."
Francesca's hand trembled as she held the cup. She knew Luna's condition wasn't great, but she didn't expect her to die.
"How did she die?" Francesca asked, her voice shaking a bit.
Louis still looked at her in disbelief. "Don't you know? You were the last person to see her, weren't you?"
"Me?" Francesca was stunned. Suddenly, she realized something. "You think she died because of me?"
Louis said, "After you left, she was poisoned and died last night. Mom, I just came back from the funeral home. If everything had gone smoothly, our surgery would be over by now. But now, she's dead, gone forever. Paige is on the verge of breaking down. What did you do?"
Francesca felt like she couldn't breathe. After a long pause, Francesca seemed to come to her senses. She asked softly, "So, does everyone think I poisoned her?"
