Chapter 277 Eating Spoiled Food
Quentin picked up Paige's call almost right away.
"Quentin, can we switch to a camera that picks up audio?" Paige asked as soon as the call connected.
She had to read Xena's lips to understand her, so if Xena turned away, Paige would be left clueless about what she was saying.
Quentin didn't hesitate before saying, "I missed that. I'll switch it now and get someone to livestream it to you with a high-definition camera in a private streaming room. The password will be today's date. Does that sound good?"
Paige chuckled, "Perfect. Quentin, thanks."
Quentin replied, "Hey, you saved my life. This is nothing. I'll get on it."
He hung up, and about ten minutes later, Paige got a link in her email. She clicked it and saw a high-def live stream with audio.
After cursing, Xena was whipped even harder, but she was forced to stand up.
As evening rolled in, Paige sat back in her swivel chair, watching Xena on her computer screen.
Even though it was dinner time, the guards gave Xena some food. The camera zoomed in on her dinner.
A big bowl filled with food that looked like it smelled awful, even through the screen. Who knows how old those leftovers were?
Paige thought, 'There's no way Xena, who was used to luxury, would eat spoiled food.'
But as soon as the bowl was in front of her, Paige saw something shocking. Xena lunged at it like she was starving, grabbing the food with her hands and shoving it into her mouth. Before Paige could figure out why the Sackler family's daughter was acting so desperate, a bunch of people rushed out, pushed Xena aside, and snatched the rest of the food.
Paige realized this was probably the first decent meal Xena had since she got there.
Given her pride and personality, she shouldn't have to fight for food. She must have been pushed to the edge, forced to fight for it. Maybe she missed out on food before because she was too slow and ended up with nothing.
Seeing this, a smile crept onto Paige's face.
'Xena, if only you had treated Luna better, you wouldn't be in this mess.'
As Paige watched, after everyone else had taken their share and left, Xena ran back, still looking hungry. But when she saw the empty bowl, she plopped down on the ground. This time, Xena spoke, and Paige could hear her clearly.
"I want to talk to Paige! I don't want to be here!" Xena cried out.
Paige heard every word. But the guards couldn't understand her.
Quentin had purposely chosen people who couldn't understand Xena.
Seeing no one paying attention to her, Xena noticed someone holding a camera nearby. She got up and approached the camera, "Paige, I know it's you! I know you're watching me."
