Chapter 179 Matching Test

Paige's slap landed square on Xena's face, the sound echoing like a firecracker. Everyone who heard it flinched.

Xena was stunned, standing there in shock, not even feeling the pain at first. She just stared at Paige, wide-eyed.

After a few seconds, Xena snapped out of it. "Paige, are you nuts? How dare you?"

Paige's expression was ice-cold. "Yeah, I slapped you. What are you gonna do about it? You gonna hit me back?"

Xena didn't dare. She knew Paige could fight like a demon. Even her top bodyguard couldn't handle Paige, so there was no way she was going to try.

Amelia and Frederick were just as shocked. They didn't expect Paige to go off on Xena like that.

A bright red handprint was already forming on Xena's cheek.

Amelia, sitting nearby, was momentarily stunned but quickly pulled herself together.

After Paige's bold move, Xena stayed quiet for a long time. It wasn't just that she was scared to hit back; she couldn't even muster up the nerve to say anything tough.

Seeing Xena on the verge of tears, Paige noticed Luna had fallen back asleep after breakfast. If Xena started bawling, she'd definitely wake Luna up.

Paige glared at her. "If I hear you badmouth Mom again, you'll regret it. I survived five years in prison; I can do another five. Those charges were bogus, but I don't mind making them real. Got it?"

Paige's threat made Xena step back, trembling. She'd almost forgotten Paige had done time. Even though the charges were false, the people she met in there were real.

Paige must've learned to fight in prison. If she really went after her, Xena wouldn't stand a chance. Realizing this, Xena quickly backed down.

Paige turned to Amelia and Frederick. "You guys don't have to stick around. If you've got stuff to do, go do it."

Xena had always wanted them gone, worried they might find out something.

Amelia looked at Paige. "I'll let Frederick head back to the company. I'll stay and go with you for the matching test later."

Hearing Amelia say she'd take the test too, Paige gave her a long look.

Amelia didn't have to go that far. Even Frederick was surprised, but he didn't argue with Amelia in front of Paige.

Frederick said goodbye to Paige and sent a message to Amelia after he left.

Amelia glanced at the message but didn't reply.

Xena, on the other hand, was curious. "What matching test?"

Paige shot a look at Xena. There was no hiding this. Plus, they needed Xena's consent for the matching test. Without her signature, it was a no-go.

Paige explained, "Mom's test results are in. She has acute kidney failure and needs a transplant. As her daughters, we have a good chance of being a match."

As soon as Paige finished, Xena lost it. "What? A kidney transplant? You want me to give her my kidney? Paige, are you out of your mind? No way!"

Paige didn't expect such a strong reaction from Xena.

Earlier, Amelia had said she'd take the matching test too. Paige knew the odds were slim, but Amelia's willingness showed she was sincere and added another possibility.

But Xena, Luna's biological daughter, freaked out and flat-out refused the moment she heard Luna needed a kidney.

Paige was livid. "What do you mean 'no way'? You're Mom's daughter. If you don't step up, who will? Just take the test. We don’t even know if you'll be a match, and you're already whining?"

Xena grabbed her bag and made a beeline for the door. "I said no. Paige, I knew you weren't calling me back out of kindness—you just want my kidney to save her. She's already terminally ill; she was practically dead five years ago. Yes, I'm her daughter, but so are you. If you want to save her, do it yourself. I'm still young and want to live my life. You have kidneys too, so you save her."

With that, Xena bolted, too fast to stop.

Paige was stunned by how quickly Xena took off. Even Amelia stood up, staring in shock at Xena's retreating figure.

After a moment, Amelia said, "I never noticed before, but Xena's got a knack for long-distance running."

Paige slumped into a chair. "Forget it, if she doesn't want to, there's nothing we can do. I'll go for the matching test first. I am her daughter. Maybe it will match just like that. Then we won't need her at all. If it really fails, I have other ways."

Xena and Margaret both want to rely on the Universe Group.

Although Paige was still considering revenge on them, if it came to it, getting a kidney for Luna would be worth it. She had plenty of opportunities to get back at the Sackler family.

Paige and Amelia both went for the matching test for Luna, and after that, it was just a waiting game.

After the test, Paige wasn't too worried. The success rate for biological mother and daughter was high. She was almost certain she could give Luna a kidney.

Amelia stayed at the hospital for a day, and by evening, the expedited matching results were in.

The doctor rushed over, and Paige immediately went to meet him.

Paige anxiously asked, "Are the matching results out? Am I a match?"
