Chapter 246 Francesca's Private Meeting with Luna
Francesca strolled up to the bodyguards and said, "Ms. Smith's got a stomachache and asked me to grab her phone from the room."
The two bodyguards exchanged glances. Francesca quickly added, "If you're worried, you can watch me. I'm just getting the phone. The waiting room isn't even connected to the patient rooms, right?"
Her words seemed legit. The bodyguards figured she was just going in to grab something and wouldn't get near Luna. So, they opened the door and followed her inside.
Once in the waiting room, Francesca pretended to search the sofa, flipping through the cushions. In less than a minute, the two bodyguards at the door were shoved into the waiting room. Then, a bunch of strong guys in plain clothes rushed in, took down the guards, and silenced them.
The folks inside the ward heard some noise outside. When the two bodyguards inside opened the door, they were quickly overpowered by Francesca's crew. Even the doctors and nurses Paige had set up to take care of Luna were all taken down without a hitch.
A middle-aged guy leading the group walked up to Francesca and said respectfully, "Mrs. Miller, everyone's under control."
Francesca nodded slightly. "Sedate them and leave them in the waiting room."
The middle-aged guy responded, "Yes, ma'am!"
After her men sedated the bodyguards and medical staff and left them in the waiting room, Francesca had two of her guys change into the bodyguards' uniforms and stand guard at the door. She then stepped into Luna's patient room.
Francesca approached the bed and carefully examined Luna's face. Although they were in the same social circle, they didn't interact much.
When Francesca first married into the Carnegie family, she mostly lived abroad with her husband. It was only after she got pregnant that she came back.
Luna, on the other hand, came from a humble background. After marrying into the Sackler family, her social interactions were pretty limited. She was often confined to the house, and going out was considered improper and embarrassing.
Looking at the seriously ill Luna, Francesca thought she was a very pitiful woman. She had heard many things about Luna, but it was only after Paige married Raymond that she learned more about her.
Francesca sat down gently, unsure of how much time she had. Luna, lying in bed, showed no signs of waking up.
By now, Paige was probably frantically searching for Louis. With not much time to spare, Francesca glanced at Luna and then at her watch.
After some thought, Francesca went over and gently patted Luna, trying to wake her. Francesca's efforts continued for about two minutes before Luna finally woke up from her deep sleep. Luna's body was extremely exhausted, with various degrees of organ damage, so she slept very deeply each time.
However, Francesca managed to wake her up. When Luna woke up, she saw a very unfamiliar face close to hers, which momentarily surprised her. She opened her mouth but couldn't say anything, "You..."
Francesca knew Luna's speech was still messed up, so she cut her off. "Ms. Parker, I'm Francesca. You might've heard of me, or maybe not. But I'm Paige's sister-in-law, from the Carnegie family. Don't worry, I'm just here to see you." Even though Luna couldn't talk, she understood.
Francesca mentioned she was from the Carnegie family. Luna couldn't say anything but managed a weak smile.
Francesca then got to the main reason she was there. "Ms. Parker, I won't beat around the bush. I'm here because of my son, Louis. I don't know if you've heard his name while you've been sick."
Luna shook her head slightly. Louis had visited her a few times, but she was always asleep. Later, their schedules never matched during check-ups and other times. Paige always said they found a matching kidney donor but never mentioned it was Louis, who was a stranger to Luna.
Francesca nodded, thinking it was normal for Luna not to know anything in her condition. She got right to the point. "I was surprised my son matched with you. The kidney you're about to get in the transplant surgery is from him. He's still very young, with a bright future ahead. Most importantly..."
Francesca suddenly fell silent. She lowered her head and stayed quiet for a long time. During her silence, Luna's emotions went haywire for no reason. The numbers on the medical instruments started to spike.
Finally, Francesca raised her head and whispered a few words into Luna's ear. Tears instantly streamed down Luna's face.
Francesca sat back up and said to Luna, "I don't want things to go down like this, and I don't want a well-kept secret to just blow up. Ms. Parker, Louis is healthy, only in his twenties, and hasn't married or had kids yet. Sure, a person can live with one kidney, but the quality of life is totally different, right?''
''If possible, please wait a little longer. Not only Paige, but I'm also helping to find a suitable kidney donor worldwide. It doesn't have to be Louis's kidney, right?" Francesca's eyes welled up with tears. She didn't know if everything she had done would ultimately stop this from happening.
Luna, with tears streaming down her face, weakly said something.
Francesca's heart skipped a beat, but she quickly nodded. "Okay."
At that moment, Paige rushed back to the Carnegie Manor from Francesca's house but still couldn't find Francesca.
As Paige drove away from the Carnegie Manor, she immediately called Amelia. The phone rang, and Amelia, tied up in the corner of Louis's room with tape over her mouth, heard the phone and knew it must be Paige calling. She was anxious and made some muffled sounds.
Paige waited for Amelia to answer, but she never did. When the call automatically ended, Paige looked at her phone. "Why isn't she answering?"
Worried something was wrong, Paige dialed Amelia's number again. However, when the second call also went unanswered, Paige's heart skipped a beat as she realized something had gone wrong.
