Chapter 312 I Have a Task for You

Francesca was just about to defend herself when Louis put on his sleep mask and prepared to sleep.

With the words on the tip of her tongue, Francesca ultimately said nothing and swallowed them back.

Louis was the closest person to her, so it wasn't surprising that he noticed something.

Francesca didn't feel the need to explain anything.

She simply put on her sleep mask, and then whether she was thinking or napping, she wouldn't expose herself any further.

Northwind, tarmac.

Paige's plane landed first, and as she disembarked, her eyes were fixed on the plane that was landing.

When Paige turned around, Pearl and Amelia followed her gaze.

Pearl said, "Mrs. Carnegie is clearly avoiding you."

Paige replied, "Let her avoid me. Amelia, I have a task for you."

As she spoke, Paige looked at Amelia.

Amelia's eyes sparkled as she asked, "What task?"

Paige's gaze remained on the Carnegie family's private plane as she said calmly, "Find an opportunity to take Louis to Locas's lab."

Amelia's face lit up with excitement, and she nodded repeatedly, "Don't worry, Ms. Ellison. This small task is in good hands. I guarantee it will be done."

Paige smiled faintly and walked off the tarmac.

"Don't assume this is an easy task."

It was precisely because it was difficult that Paige believed Amelia had a better chance of succeeding.

Meanwhile, Francesca's plane had just landed, and as the cabin door opened, she was still reminding Louis as they descended the stairs.

"Louis, promise me, stay away from that Amelia around Paige for a while."

Louis suddenly stopped on the stairs, "Mom, I am old enough to make  decisions myself."

Francesca turned back to look at Louis, who was following her.

"Louis, this has nothing to do with age. You can openly approach Paige, and even if you take her away from Raymond, I will support you."

"But Amelia is now loyal to Paige. Can you handle her intelligence and schemes?"

"I have a good eye for people, Louis. Promise me, stay away from her for a while, okay?"

"Once things calm down a bit, I won't interfere with who you befriend."

Louis didn't want to continue the topic and perfunctorily agreed with Francesca.

"Okay, fine, I got it."

Francesca knew Louis was being perfunctory, but that was all she could do. If she continued, Louis might become more rebellious.

Louis hadn't gotten the answers he wanted from her, and if Francesca kept talking, Louis would only become more resentful.

Amelia was also smart. Paige had already warned that Francesca would be on guard, and Louis wouldn't obediently listen to her.

So, for the next few days after returning, Amelia made no moves.

However, she did start spending more time at clubs and nightclubs.

Recently, Amelia had been constantly by Paige's side and hadn't had time to go out and have fun.

Now that she was out, naturally, her friends surrounded her.

Amelia's status was completely different now. The Smith family had allied with the Universe Group and had a close relationship with Xanthe Ellison, which was well-known throughout Northwind.

The Smith family's status had risen, and in a short time, no one dared to call them nouveau riche anymore. Instead, they were very popular in Northwind.

Previously, Amelia had kept a low profile among her friends, minimizing her presence.

Now, her presence was undeniable, and regardless of their previous attitudes, everyone now treated Amelia with respect.

The Smith family's status had risen with Paige, and Amelia couldn't keep a low profile even if she wanted to.

However, Amelia didn't shy away from the attention. Since she was being respected, she enjoyed the feeling.

After a few days of waiting, she finally encountered Louis, who had come to drown his sorrows after work.

Amelia, surrounded by friends, sat down with Louis.

After all, they are in the same circle and shares mutual friends.

And they often arranged a get-together in places like this.

The difference is, it was Xena who had the chance to sit next to Louis, but now it was Amelia.

After the drugging incident, although the details were not widely known, there were rumors that Amelia liked Louis.

Sitting next to Louis, Amelia noticed his still desolate expression. It seemed that the trip to Northern Country, whether it was the shooting of Xena or the seeds of doubt planted in his heart, had left Louis unsettled.

For several days, the news Amelia heard from Paige was that Louis was busy with company matters.

But Amelia knew that with doubts in his heart, Louis would eventually come out to drown his sorrows.

And here he was.

"Long time no see, Mr. Carnegie. You look quite haggard. Have you been busy with work lately?"

Amelia didn't mention the trip to Northern Country at all, pretending he was just busy with work.

Louis bitterly raised his glass to hide his emotions, as he didn't like showing his feelings in front of many people.

But Amelia, being familiar with Louis, naturally caught his small gestures.

After hiding his emotions, Louis replied, "Yes, very busy. After being away, the company's matters have piled up."

Amelia said, "With so many capable people under Mr. Carnegie, you don't need to handle everything yourself. It's too exhausting. Come, let me toast to you. I didn't know your drinking capacity before, but now that I'm drinking with you, I must admit, I'm a bit scared."

Amelia cleverly changed the subject.

She didn't mention those matters at all, instead shifting to the light topic of drinking.

Louis let his guard down and started drinking with Amelia.

Tonight, Amelia was determined not to get drunk. There were many friends at the drinking session, but they all went easy on Amelia.

Amelia's drinking capacity couldn't hold up, but with many people, it was different.

Moreover, Louis was feeling down, so he drank without refusal, one glass after another. Amelia could foresee that no matter how good Louis's drinking capacity was, he would still get drunk tonight.

Sure enough, by the time they drank until the early hours, others had passed out, and Louis was also drunk.

He indeed had a strong head for alcohol, but mixing several types of alcohol and coming to drink to get drunk, he naturally got drunk.

Others naturally had someone to take them home.

When Louis's assistant arrived, Amelia was holding Louis, placing his hand on her waist.

Then Amelia smiled at the assistant and said, "Mr. Carnegie drank too much. He said he wanted me to take him home. You don't mind, do you?"

The assistant didn't dare to have any objections and nodded repeatedly.

Amelia left a charming smile and helped Louis out of the nightclub.
