Chapter 190 Fire Sale
Margaret and Xena clearly heard Lincoln call Paige's assistant "Mrs. Southern."
Earlier, Xena was calm when Pearl answered her call, but now, hearing Lincoln, she freaked out.
Margaret was also losing it. Both were starting to think Paige might actually be Xanthe.
Pearl pointed at Paige and asked Lincoln, "First time meeting Miss Ellison, right?"
Lincoln was surprised and asked, "Xanthe Ellison?"
Pearl smiled and nodded. "Yep, Xena called you here to confirm who we are. Why don't you tell her?"
Lincoln suddenly felt like Xena had set him up. But he was already there, so he couldn't back out.
Lincoln introduced Pearl to Xena and Margaret. "This Mrs. Southern is Miss Ellison's chief assistant. She handles all the secretarial and personal assistant stuff for the group. If you don't believe me, go ask the higher-ups at our company."
After that, Lincoln ignored Xena and Margaret and walked over to Paige and Pearl. "You are so mysterious, never showing up in public. I heard you've been working from home lately. Need any help?"
Paige replied coolly, "Pearl's got everything covered."
Margaret and Xena exchanged looks. It was hard to accept that Paige was Xanthe, but with Lincoln's confirmation, they had no choice.
Xena secretly tugged at Margaret's sleeve. Margaret hadn't expected her last resort to end like this.
After a few seconds of hesitation, Margaret stepped forward and apologized to Paige. "We messed up. It's an honor to meet Xanthe. Can you overlook the misunderstanding?"
Paige gave a cold smile. "You think you can just brush off what you've done? You know why we're here today."
Margaret knew Paige wasn't in a forgiving mood.
Paige's gaze turned to Xena, sharp enough to cut through her. "Xena, why so quiet? You had a lot to say earlier."
Paige didn't forget the security guards. "You guys did your job, but your judgment was off. Our hotel needs better security and judgment. Pearl, what do you think?"
Pearl nodded immediately. "Yes, Xanthe. I'll take care of it."
At that moment, Xena suddenly pointed at Paige and shouted, "No way. You're Paige! How can you be Xanthe? You're a fake!"
Paige smiled and replied, "Really? Are you sure you know who I am?"
Just then, Paige's phone reminded her of something. The stock market had opened.
Paige had set this reminder earlier. Since the market was open, it was the perfect time for her to take action.
Paige immediately dumped all her shares in the Sackler Group's furniture company. After she was done, she said, "You still don't get who I am. From now on, keep a close eye on your family's stock and see if you can save anything."
Paige had hinted at selling her shares in the Sackler Group earlier.
In the past few days, she had bought up a ton of shares in the Sackler Group's furniture company. So, when she started selling, other small shareholders freaked out and followed her lead.
Paige had held over eighty percent of the shares. With this massive sell-off, the Sackler Group's company was staring down a major crisis.
Prompted by Paige, Margaret and Xena both whipped out their phones to check the stock market. Seeing the chaos, they both panicked.
"How is this possible?" Margaret couldn't believe it.
Seeing everyone selling, Xena freaked out and immediately questioned Paige, "What did you do?"
Paige casually replied, "Your memory is really concerning. Did you forget so quickly? You told me not to touch your stuff, so I sold all the shares I held in your company."
Paige spoke lightly, but the stock market situation grew increasingly dire.
Margaret looked up at Paige. "How do you have so many shares in the Sackler Group? What did you do?"
"Didn't I already say? To gain some leverage and smoothly get my mom out of your hands, I bought some of your shares. What, I supported the Sackler Group's business, and you're not happy? You must have made quite a profit during this time, right?"Paige said with a wicked smile.
Margaret now had no reason not to believe Paige was Xanthe. She started making calls, instructing her subordinates to buy all the shares after everyone sold them. If she hadn't stepped up to buy these shares now, the company's situation would have become very serious.
In less than half an hour, the Sackler Group suffered severe asset evaporation to save their core business.
Margaret finally realized how dire the situation was. The only thing she could do was see if Paige was willing to save them.
Margaret went directly to Paige, ready to kneel before her.
With a glance from Paige, Amelia and Pearl immediately lifted her from both sides.
Paige said, "There's no need for this. You should understand that our grudge won't be resolved just because you kneel. However, you're lucky; you might have a chance to get through this. I might overlook the past, look forward, and even thank you."
As Paige spoke, her gaze shifted to Xena.
Paige's meaning was clear. The fate of the Sackler Group and the Sackler family, depended on the hospital's results and Xena's cooperation.
After speaking, Paige stood up. "Do you understand what I mean?"
