Chapter 266 Suffer the Worst Torments in the World
Paige had totally lost it. She never imagined that even with people watching Luna around the clock, Xena would still manage to end her life. With the truth staring her in the face, Paige unleashed all her fury on Elijah.
Caleb's heart broke as he watched his son being beaten, but he didn't dare step in. Seeing Elijah's face covered in blood, Caleb turned to Raymond in a panic, seeking help.
He pleaded, "Mr. Carnegie, please talk to Paige. I only have one son. Sure, he messed up, but he'd never have the guts to kill Luna. It's all that little witch Xena's fault; she egged him on. Please, make Paige stop. We can't let this turn into a murder."
Raymond knew Paige's strength well. He glanced at Elijah and could tell he wasn't on the brink of death yet. As long as Elijah's life wasn't in danger, Raymond stayed indifferent.
But Caleb was terrified, begging Raymond non-stop, "Mr. Carnegie, please help us. Paige might only listen to you."
Margaret chimed in, "I'm not defending Elijah. But if she kills him here, what will happen to her?"
Raymond, focused on Elijah, of course wouldn't let Paige be branded a murderer. Yet, she needed to vent her emotions or risked feeling even worse.
In desperation, Caleb was about to rush forward to shield Elijah when Raymond grabbed him.
"You can't take her punches," Raymond said, as calmly as if he were discussing the weather.
Caleb couldn't break free from Raymond's grip. Just when he felt utterly hopeless, Raymond let go. He stepped forward and caught Paige's fist just before it could land another blow on Elijah.
Then, Raymond hugged Paige tightly. His deep, soothing voice whispered to her, "It's okay, you can take his life anytime you want. He might be useful later. No need to rush."
Paige, exhausted, leaned against Raymond. She had used all her strength beating Elijah, and his blood splattered on her face, mixing with her tears. Her beauty, now tainted with blood, had a unique allure.
The tears mixed with blood at the corners of her eyes added a tragic beauty that tugged at Raymond's heart. He held Paige tightly and lifted her up.
Caleb quickly checked if Elijah was still breathing. Margaret glanced at Paige's blood-stained face and tears, and tears of sorrow streamed down her own face. Margaret sighed, and Caleb shouted, "He's still breathing. Call a doctor!"
Margaret looked at Raymond, as Paige's bodyguards were still guarding the door. Raymond nodded, and Margaret quickly pressed the emergency call button.
Amelia and Pearl, who were already in the room, watched in silence. When the doctor came in and saw the bloodied Elijah on the floor, they didn't say a word and immediately began treating him.
Elijah was severely beaten, with fractures in his nose and jaw. After some initial treatment in the room, he needed to be taken to the operating room.
Paige had calmed down considerably under Raymond's comfort. She then looked at Caleb. "As of tomorrow, the Trump Group will be shutting down."
Caleb was shocked. Paige's words meant she wasn't going to let them off the hook.
Caleb pleaded, "Paige, we're family. Elijah messed up, and we're willing to take responsibility. Can you give us another chance? We'll find a way to make amends."
"Besides, it was Xena who poisoned her. You didn't even ask Elijah what happened. Can you..."
Before Caleb could finish, Paige cut him off, "Family? He hurt my mother, and now you're telling me we're family."
"It doesn't matter if the poison that hurt my mom came from Elijah or Xena. What's the difference? If it weren't for Elijah, Xena wouldn't have gotten out of the mental hospital!"
Paige's voice suddenly shot up, making Caleb shiver. Despite his years in a high position, he couldn't help but feel scared of Paige's current power and her ruthless decisiveness.
Paige went on, "If you shut down your business voluntarily, I'll spare Elijah's life. But if you waste more of my time and energy, don't blame me for being ruthless."
Caleb got it—Paige was out for revenge for Luna. Her target was clear: either Elijah's life or the Trump family's business.
The Trump family and the Sackler family combined were no match for Paige's Universe Group. If they didn't comply with her demands, the Trump family could face total destruction. But giving in to Paige's demands was something Caleb couldn't stomach.
"You have one night to think it over." With that, Paige walked away. Raymond held Paige and took her to Luna's old room to clean the blood off her face and body.
After everyone around Margaret's room had left, Caleb quickly ran to the operating room.
Margaret, with tears streaming down her face, watched Paige leave. She wanted to follow but felt rooted to the spot. She never imagined that Luna would die because of Xena. And it was Elijah who had brought Xena out of the mental hospital.
This was something she couldn't accept. She had hoped for a reconciliation with Paige over time. But now, how could they ever reconcile?
Margaret sat on the hospital bed angrily and didn't go to the operating room to check on Elijah.
After cleaning up, Paige was persuaded by Raymond to go home. However, once she got home, Paige immediately grabbed her computer and locked herself in the study, forbidding anyone from entering or disturbing her.
Raymond felt heartbroken seeing Paige shut herself away and torment herself, but he couldn't find any other way to comfort her.
So, Raymond had a large chair brought over and prepared to stay outside the study all night. This way, he would know immediately if Paige came out.
Pearl said, "Mr. Carnegie, why don't we take turns watching over her? You should get some rest. Ms. Ellison's matters won't be resolved in a day or two."
Raymond replied, "You all should rest. If something happens or she has an emotional breakdown, you won't be able to handle it. You've been busy for days. Go home, get some rest, and come back tomorrow to be with her."
It was rare for Raymond to say so much to others. Raymond insisted on staying to watch over Paige, so Pearl had no choice but to step back. "Mr. Carnegie, if anything happens tonight, just let us know."
Raymond nodded. "Don't worry, everyone has been exhausted for days. I'll make sure Paige is okay."
Pearl, Amelia, and the others followed Raymond's advice and went to rest.
Inside the study, Paige meticulously reviewed all the surveillance footage, not willing to miss even the slightest clue. After finishing the videos, Paige received an email from Cecil, who usually worked at night.
Paige opened Cecil's email, which contained the route Elijah had used to help Xena escape.
Given that Xena couldn't leave the country directly—her passport had been confiscated by Margaret, and all her identification had been canceled after she was sent to the mental hospital—Elijah had to find a way to smuggle her out.
When Paige saw the route in the email, a smile finally appeared on her face. Staring at the map on her computer, she whispered, "Xena, you chose to walk into hell. How dare you harm my mother? I will make you suffer the worst torments in this world!"
