Chapter 256 She Can Get Whatever She Wants

Raymond felt a knot in his stomach when he heard Francesca had shown up. She was the main suspect in Luna's death, and he figured staying away until Paige had wrapped up Luna's affairs would give everyone a chance to cool off. But here she was, and it felt like one wrong move could blow everything up.

Raymond couldn't stop her now, so he stuck close to Paige as she walked out of the funeral home and stood outside. From there, she could see Francesca surrounded by bodyguards. Francesca and Louis were practically trapped in the middle.

Julian's guys had been taken down last night, which was a major embarrassment. Naturally, they weren't going to be friendly towards Francesca now. They needed to save face.

Paige stood there, watching with a cold expression for a long time before finally saying, "Let them in." Her voice was icy. Since they were already here, she wanted answers right outside the funeral home.

After receiving Paige's order, the bodyguards made way for Francesca and Louis. From a distance, Louis could see the intense hatred in Paige's eyes. As they walked towards Paige, Louis whispered, "Mom, Paige looks really mad. Maybe we should..."

Francesca cut him off, "I know she's mad. She thinks I hurt her mom. But if I don't clear things up today, I might regret it later."

"Regret?" Louis asked.

"It's nothing," Francesca replied.

When they reached Paige, she was the first to speak, "My mom is already gone. Isn't that enough for you? If you need to see her dead to be satisfied, go ahead and take a look."

Francesca knew this was going to be tough to explain. She took a deep breath. Based on the timeline Louis had given her, it did look like she had the motive and opportunity. But she still tried to explain, "It wasn't me. I just wanted to delay the surgery. I never meant to harm your mom. I know neither you nor Louis would pause the irreversible surgery. I just wanted to wait a bit longer. ''

''If we couldn't find another kidney, I would have agreed. Since her condition wasn't that bad at the time, I just wanted to wait. I know you wouldn't let me see her to talk to her directly, so I took matters into my own hands. As a mother, she would understand my feelings. I swear I didn't harm her. Last night, I just talked to her."

Francesca didn't know how much Paige would believe her. But if she didn't explain, the misunderstanding would only get worse, making it harder to fix their relationship.

It was clear Paige didn't believe a word Francesca said. She looked at Francesca coldly, listening but not buying any of it. "Francesca, your excuses mean nothing to me. Who else could it be besides you? Why did you destroy the surveillance if your intentions were so reasonable? Your people taking Louis was caught on camera. Aren't you afraid of being caught? Was it necessary to hide your visit to my mom? Drugging people and destroying surveillance—weren't you just setting the stage to deny everything?"

As Paige spoke, Francesca's face darkened. She had thought things through at the time. Her people taking Louis was done openly because she was his mother. It seemed justified.

Louis actually believed Francesca. Seeing that Paige wouldn't believe it no matter what, he said, "Paige, she really had no reason to kill your mom. Besides, your mom died from poisoning. She didn't have the opportunity to get those things."

Paige shot back, "Is there anything she can't get if she wants it? With a single word, countless people would rush to provide it for her."

Seeing that Paige completely distrusted her, Francesca asked, "Paige, do you want the person who poisoned your mom to be me, or do you want to find the real culprit?"

Paige replied, "Do you think saying that will work on me? Who else could it be besides you?"

Paige's voice suddenly rose, filled with hatred towards Francesca. "For so long, my mom's room was guarded inside and out. I didn't want anyone unsuitable to appear in front of her. To prevent any accidents, only people we trusted could go in. There were never any problems. But last night, you took Louis and lured me away.''

''In the room were trusted medical staff, my own bodyguards, and Amelia. But what did you do? You tricked Amelia out, took down my bodyguards, and met my mom alone. When I returned, you had left, and my mom was gone. Do you know she was resuscitated for two hours and died a horrible death? If you aren't the culprit, who is?"

Paige stepped closer to Francesca, her furious gaze seemed almost bloodshot. Tears were held back firmly in her eyes, not a single drop falling. Paige questioned Francesca relentlessly.

Francesca had intended to explain herself, but Paige wasn't wrong. Even if she didn't poison Luna, she had broken through two layers of security, giving the real culprit an opportunity.

Francesca couldn't find words to defend herself. She couldn't explain why she had to destroy the surveillance and drug the bodyguards to meet and talk with Luna.

Their conversation wasn't something that could be overheard by others. And Francesca couldn't explain the reason. Even if she could, she wasn't entirely blameless.

"What's wrong, Francesca? Are you out of excuses? Do you know what she meant to me? How could you be so cruel, destroying my last bit of warmth and hope." By the time Paige shouted the last sentence, she seemed on the verge of collapse.

Francesca, feeling at a loss, tried to adjust her emotions and mindset, and said softly, "I'm very sorry for your mom's death, but I really didn't mean to harm her."
