Chapter 183 Whether I Can Get It Depends on My Ability

Xena shot off a quick reply on her phone: [I need it now, bring it to the hospital. When you see my grandma, just say you're here to visit a friend or something; make something up.]

After hitting send, she slumped back on the sofa. She muttered under her breath, "Paige, you pushed me into this. Mom was fine, sleeping peacefully. You had to wake her up, and now she's got problems. And you want to use my health to save her? No way. You couldn't be a match, and now you expect me to save her? Get ready to bury her!"

Her face twisted with a ruthless expression. At that moment, it was clear Luna wasn't just her mother; she was someone Xena deeply resented.

Xena clenched her fists, stood up with determination, and grabbed some clothes from the walk-in closet. By the time she reached the door, her face had morphed back into a weak and fearful mask. "I'm ready, Grandma. Let's go."

Margaret was adamant about going with Xena to the hospital. Whether a matching test was needed or not, she was sticking by her side.

She had to make sure Paige didn't pull any stunts. Xena might actually lose a kidney over this, and that was no joke. As for Luna's fate, Margaret's stance was clear: Xena's life was more important.

They headed back to the hospital, with Paige tailing Xena's car closely, worried they might change their minds or that Xena might make a run for it. Xena was totally capable of that.

Five years ago, she had pushed Luna down the stairs. Now, she was openly refusing to do the matching test, let alone donate a kidney. Paige had to keep a close watch on her. If Xena bolted, it would be too late.

Luckily, Xena drove straight to the hospital. When they arrived, Elijah was conveniently wandering around inside, and they 'accidentally' bumped into each other.

Margaret asked, "What are you doing at the hospital?"

Elijah grinned. "Just visiting a friend. You here to see..." He let the sentence hang.

Seeing Paige approaching, Elijah pulled Xena aside for a quick chat. While they talked, he discreetly handed her something. Xena took it and, when no one was looking, slipped it into her bag.

Elijah warned, "This thing is strong. Make sure you time it right and have an alibi. If it traces back to you, you're in deep trouble, got it?"

Xena nodded. "Don't worry, I'm not an idiot. I know what I'm doing."

Elijah nodded back. "Good. I'm outta here; I don't want to run into Paige."

Xena said, "You go first."

With that, Xena felt a wave of relief wash over her. With a plan in place, there was nothing to fear. Having been to Luna's VIP ward before, Xena headed straight there.

Margaret trailed behind, glancing at Paige, who was right on their heels. "It's so unfair. You want to save her so badly, but you can't be a match. For years, she's cared most about you, and now she has to rely on Xena."

Paige sneered, "I wish I could be a match. It'd save us all this hassle. If Xena is a match, what would it take for you to agree to let her donate a kidney to her mother?"

Paige's goal was clear: if Xena was a match, she wanted Xena's kidney to save Luna.

Margaret scoffed. "What we want, can you even afford it? You're overestimating yourself. Even the Carnegie family doesn't want you now. What leverage do you have?"

Paige shot back, "I heard that if there are two kids, one is likely to be a match. My test came back negative, so Xena's probably a match. Whether I can afford it is my problem. Whether you'll give the kidney is my skill. If the match works, my mom can definitely survive."

Xena picked up her pace. She coldly tossed out, "Empty talk."

Xena sped up, but at the ward's door, Paige's bodyguards blocked her. They only let her through when Paige arrived.

Paige said, "You wait in the lounge first. I'll go in and talk to Mom to keep her from getting too emotional."

Margaret frowned. "She wants Xena's kidney but doesn't want to see Xena?"

Paige replied, "Don't forget, Xena pushed my mom down the stairs back then. Even though she woke up after five years, that memory won't just disappear. She instinctively fears Xena!"

Paige left it at that and didn't elaborate.

Standing next to Margaret, Xena seemed less afraid and nervous, but she told Paige, "I want to talk to Mom alone. If you don't agree, we're leaving now."

Paige gave Xena a long look. "I'll talk to Mom."

Luna's condition wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either. She could still eat some food in the morning, and if she was awake now, Paige could talk to her.

Paige entered the ward first. Inside, the doctors and nurses she had brought were always watching Luna, monitoring any slight changes to prevent accidents.

When Paige walked in, Luna was still asleep. Paige whispered, "Did she wake up today?"

The doctor whispered back, "She woke up for a bit at noon and had some fish soup."

Paige glanced at the door. To get Xena to do the matching test, Luna had to meet her and try to persuade her.

Paige felt a bit reluctant, but she had to wake Luna up now. "Help me wake her up."
