Chapter 167 How Could She Be with Louis
Paige hadn't officially shown up at the Universe Group yet, but some folks there already knew who she was.
Not only did they know her, but they were also starting to dig around 'cause Paige hadn't made her grand entrance yet.
Pearl said, "I'm gonna get to the bottom of this!"
After dealing with it, Paige just shrugged it off and got back to her grind.
But Pearl wasn't gone for long before she came back.
"Xanthe, the Sackler family still ain't giving up. They keep hitting us up, wanting to meet the CEO of the Universe Group. Whether it's for a meal or whatever, they're down."
Paige sneered. "Their words are so sweet, it's almost hard to say no. I wonder if they were this sweet when they were trash-talking me with Xena?"
Pearl chuckled. "I'm betting when Xena finally meets the CEO of the Universe Group, she won't even be able to string a sentence together."
The Sackler Mansion.
Thinking about Paige's upcoming split from Raymond, Xena's grin got even bigger.
Margaret saw Xena's grin as she walked by. "What's got you all happy? Good news from the Universe Group?"
Xena turned to Margaret. "Nah, Grandma. They still haven't agreed to meet with me. It's a real pain."
Margaret sat down. "Don't stress. This won't get sorted out easily, so hang tight. The real headache now is dealing with Luna's situation."
At the mention of Luna, Xena's earlier joy vanished.
The last thing she wanted to hear about was her mom.
"Grandma, she only cares about Paige now. She doesn't give a damn about us. I didn't push Mom on purpose five years ago. She knows it was an accident."
But deep down, Xena had another worry.
Some secrets were supposed to stay buried forever.
But now that Luna was awake, Xena couldn't help but worry those secrets might come out.
If they did, her life would get real messy.
Xena said, "Grandma, I need to step out for a bit. I'll be back soon."
Leaving the house, Xena hopped into her sports car and called up a few friends.
When she went out to have fun, she had to call Elijah.
At the club, Xena snagged a prime spot.
Elijah showed up not long after.
Elijah poured Xena a drink and said, "I heard from my dad that you and Margaret have been busy with something lately. Spill the tea, got any good news?"
Xena replied, "You'll see. It's still too early to spill the beans."
As they chatted, a few more rich kids rolled in and made a beeline for Xena.
"Xena, it's been ages since you came out to play. What made you decide to call us out today?"
Xena grinned, "It's been too long, and I missed you guys. So I figured, why not?"
"I thought you were at home gearing up to take over the family biz."
Xena grinned. "Not just yet. My grandma's still kicking. She wants me to enjoy life a bit longer."
The crew Xena called out were all tight with her.
"Xena, is it true you and Louis are done?"
The rumors were flying, and now that Xena was here, they had to ask.
Xena shrugged. "No biggie. Maybe Louis and I just weren't meant to be. But even if we can't be a couple, we can still be like siblings."
Xena's answer was chill. She knew she and Louis were over.
And Louis wasn't the type to blab about her private stuff.
As for what went down that night, it was all just rumors with no proof.
Paige hadn't spilled any tea to trash her rep, probably 'cause of Luna. Since Luna was awake now, Paige had to look after her and didn't have time for drama.
So, since Louis wouldn't say anything, Xena just admitted the engagement was off and said they were like siblings. Even if Louis was there, he wouldn't deny it.
After all these years, Xena knew Louis. He was cold but fair.
Sure enough, just as Xena finished talking, Louis showed up.
This time, Xena's eyes locked with Louis's, and she was stunned to see Amelia hanging on his arm. She hadn't expected her!
If Elijah hadn't held Xena down, she would've jumped up the moment she saw Amelia with Louis.
At that moment, Xena's friends saw Louis and started griping on her behalf.
"How long has it been since he broke up with Xena, and he's already with someone else?"
"How did Louis and Amelia hook up? They seem way too cozy."
"What's with Amelia? She used to love hanging out with us. Now that Xena and Louis' engagement just broke up, she's jumped right in?"
Even Elijah quietly asked Xena, "Did you know about them?"
Xena shook her head slightly. Despite feeling pissed, she kept quiet.
'Cause Amelia knew everything about what went down before.
No matter how much she hated Amelia, she had to suck it up. Plus, Amelia seemed to have footage of the time she drugged Louis.
No matter how mad she was, she had to deal with it alone.
Seeing Amelia holding Louis's arm and walking over, Xena could only force a smile.
"Isn't this Xena? Long time no see. What brings you out today? Louis, it's been a while since you saw her, right?"
Louis glanced casually at Xena. "Yeah."
Amelia smirked. "Xena, what have you been up to lately? Looking for your next boyfriend?"
