Chapter 318 It Turned Out to Be Just a Decoy

Paige took Louis and fled, catching everyone off guard.

Paige chose a sports car as her ride, and her driving skills were more than capable of handling it.

With the performance of one of the world's top three supercars and Paige's perfect driving skills, not only could an ordinary driver not catch up, but even a professional racer might not win this round.

Paige didn't even need to look back to know that Francesca and her team would chase after them, but she also knew that no one could catch up to her taillights.

Louis, on the other hand, kept looking in the rearview mirror and turning his head back.

Paige said, "Stop looking. You should know that Amelia is my person. If I really wanted your DNA, I had plenty of opportunities from last night until now. Why didn't I take action? I was waiting for this moment!"

As soon as Paige said this, Louis stopped looking back and instead looked at Paige in astonishment.

He had long known that Paige was no longer the person he once knew.

But this only made him more fascinated.

However, due to his identity, Louis had to restrain his emotions.

Louis carefully pondered Paige's words and suddenly, he was shocked. "You don't want my DNA? You don't really want to take me for some test. Your target isn't me!"

Louis realized what Paige was saying, and he was astonished, looking at Paige with even deeper eyes.

Paige glanced at Louis indifferently. "You're not too dumb after all."

Paige increased the speed of the car again. Although Louis was not her ultimate goal, since he was here, Paige wanted to make things clear.

So she asked, "Since you're here, do you mind doing a test?"

Louis had already agreed to cooperate with Paige for a test back at the hotel restaurant, so he nodded.  "I promised, I won't go back on my word! Paige, I find it harder to understand you. In my memory..."

Before Louis could finish his sentence, Paige interrupted him, "What about the me in your memory? From childhood to adulthood, at the mercy of others, powerless to resist, without resources, without backing. Others could easily set me up, send me to prison. Don't forget, you had a hand in that too."

Louis was at a loss for words, as what Paige said was true. Her five years in prison indeed had his 'contribution' in it, and he couldn't argue against that.

After a long while, Louis asked, "During those five years, I kept trying to visit you but was always refused. Later, I investigated again and again, but couldn't find a trace of you. At first, I didn't understand. But now, I have a bit of a clue. Maybe, during those five years, you weren't in prison at all. Maybe you met someone extraordinary who taught you to grow, to strategize, gave you an identity, and became your backing."

"With the resources of the Carnegie family, I couldn't find out your background. I don't know whether to be happy or worried for you. I don't know if the person backing you has good intentions or a hidden agenda. I'm afraid that one day, something will happen to you, and because of today's test, I'll lose the ability to protect you. Paige, I promised you, I won't go back on my word, but are you sure you want to choose this path?"

Paige looked at Louis. He was indeed smart.

Although he didn't guess everything correctly, he had a rough idea.

Not only about her five years but also about his own identity, he had a vague concept.

Paige looked at Louis. "I can't let my mother's death be in vain!"

Louis felt a lump in his throat, making it hard to breathe.

But he knew that if he could talk to Paige like this, it might only be now, in this car.

Louis said, "Well, unexpectedly marrying you to Uncle Raymond might be good for you. Although I'm not sure, Uncle Raymond seems to have some abilities that I can't see through. Those abilities seem to exceed the Carnegie family's influence."

"He also seems to love you very much. If the person backing you really has a hidden agenda, Uncle Raymond should be able to protect you. It turns out, from beginning to end, I was a burden and a sin to you. Uncle Raymond is the one who can truly protect you. Paige, hold on to Uncle Raymond. He seems to have deep secrets and strong cards. Let him be your best shield and protect you for a lifetime."

Paige looked at Louis meaningfully. Was he suspecting something?

Raymond indeed had some cards up his sleeve, but ever since he stood up from his wheelchair and unhesitatingly took a bullet for her, Paige had chosen to trust him unconditionally and never probed!

But if Raymond wanted to tell her what cards he had, Paige would listen carefully.

Paige withdrew her gaze from Louis and continued to look at the road. "You seem to be talking a lot today."

Louis smiled bitterly. "I'm afraid that after today, I won't have the chance to say these things again. I'm even more afraid that after today, I might never see you again."

Paige felt a pang of anxiety. Louis was Francesca's son, and he should know more about Francesca than others.

And what Louis was saying now gave Paige a feeling that there was no need for the test; the truth was already in front of her.

But Paige's car still arrived at the entrance of the lab.

Paige's lips curled slightly as she said to Louis, "You go in first."

Paige took out her phone and opened the lab door.

Inside the lab, Locas was already waiting.

As Louis took a few steps forward, Francesca and her team arrived. Francesca, usually dressed as a noblewoman, was quickly approaching Paige in high heels.

Raymond reached Paige first, followed by Julian and Amelia.

Francesca hurried over and anxiously asked Paige, "Where is he? Where's Louis? Paige, hand over Louis!"

Since Luna's death, this was the harshest thing Francesca had ever said to Paige, her tone commanding and fierce.

Paige pointed to the lab behind her. "He's already gone in. If you want to take him away now, you should still have time."

Paige's words were calm and indifferent, as if she was really that easygoing, and Francesca could just go in and take Louis away.

At this moment, Francesca had only one thought that she wanted to take Louis away.

She couldn't care about anything else. Paige's words that she could still make it if she went in now made Francesca give Paige a deep look before rushing into the lab without hesitation.

However, as Francesca entered, the group of bodyguards following her was stopped by a large group of Paige's bodyguards who had been waiting.

Paige exuded a sharp and murderous aura. "What do you think this place is? Somewhere anyone can enter?"

Francesca stepped into the lab, and the door immediately closed behind her. She turned around and faced Paige, who had followed her in.

Inside the lab, Francesca confronted Paige, Raymond, and the others.

Outside the lab, Francesca's bodyguards faced off against Julian and Paige's subordinates.

Francesca looked at the lab outside and then at the lab behind her. In an instant, she seemed to understand something.

So that was how it was!

Francesca met Paige's gaze, her eyes filled with surprise and shock. "Your target isn't Louis; it's me! Paige, you're so cunning. This whole setup was for me!"
