Chapter 244 The Night Before the Surgery, Something Happened to Louis

Except for Paige, Margaret wasn't about to let Xena off the hook either. Xena had gotten way too much from the Sackler family, and it was time to pay up. Paige said, "I think their family deserves a fitting end, especially since her parents are human traffickers."

Amelia chimed in, "The hospital ran a bunch of tests but found nothing. Looks like Xena's really lost it. She's been sent to a mental hospital and probably won't be coming out anytime soon."

Amelia knew Paige wouldn't let this slide, so she kept a close eye on Xena while she was getting checked out and treated at the hospital.

Paige asked, "Did the Sackler family arrange for the mental hospital?"

Amelia nodded. "Yeah, they even told the hospital not to take her treatment too seriously, but she can't die."

Even Pearl jumped in, all fired up, "We can't just let her die like that. She's done so many awful things; she deserves to be punished. Otherwise, where's the justice?"

Paige said, "No rush. The treatments in mental hospitals are tough enough. If she's not really insane, the first phase of treatment will be a nightmare for her."

Since the Sackler family made the first move, Paige wasn't in a hurry. She was still concerned about Luna's surgery. And after Louis's surgery, she wanted to take care of him.

Even though Louis had hurt her by teaming up with the Sackler family to get her thrown in prison, he had a kidney that matched Luna's. At this critical moment, he became Luna's lifeline, willing to donate it to her. After the surgery, Paige naturally wanted to help him recover.

Louis kept saying it was to make up for what he'd done to Paige, and as long as it saved Luna, she'd forgive him and be grateful. But Paige knew the difference between gratitude and love.

Amelia thought for a moment and said, "By the way, I can check if I know any doctors at the mental hospital. That way, we can get updates on Xena's condition right away."

Paige nodded. "You handle it."

Amelia was good at this kind of thing and quickly found someone. The Smith family, though not super rich, was part of the new affluent class in the medical field. When the mental hospital's doctor heard about her connections, they gave a detailed report on Xena's condition.

Paige, who knew her stuff about medicine, put down the analysis report after reading it. "This doesn't completely prove she's really insane. Keep an eye on Xena and let me know if anything changes." Amelia nodded.

The next day, the doctor came to discuss Luna's surgery plan and some details with Paige. Louis was there too. After the discussion, Louis was admitted to the hospital, waiting for the surgery. Once the surgery plan was set, Paige's focus shifted entirely to getting everything ready.Since Louis was in the hospital, Raymond had to take over his work and couldn't be with Paige all the time. Paige put her busy work at Universe Group on hold, leaving most of it to Pearl and Kimberly.

They thought the surgery would go smoothly, but the night before, things took a turn.

After making sure Luna was resting, Paige went to check on Louis. But when she knocked on his hospital room door, there was no answer.

Paige knocked a few more times, but still nothing. Feeling uneasy, she went in. She even checked the bathroom, but Louis was nowhere to be found.

Panic set in, and Paige called Louis, but his phone rang inside the room. Paige took a deep breath. If his phone was still here, he couldn't have gone far.

This wasn't a minor surgery. Even though they'd done pre-surgery counseling, Louis might still be anxious or scared. Maybe he just went for a walk. So Paige quickly left the room, looking for him.

She walked from his room to outside the hospital but still couldn't find him. Then she ran into Amelia, who had come to bring her food. "Ms. Ellison, why are you outside?"

Paige, worried, said, "Louis isn't in his room. I thought he might be out for a walk to relax. The surgery is tomorrow morning, and I'm worried something might've happened, so I came out to look for him."

Amelia suggested, "Why not call him? Didn't Mr. Carnegie take his phone with him?"

Paige shook her head. "His phone is in the room. I just came from there."

Amelia, concerned, said, "Why not check the surveillance footage? The surgery is tomorrow; we can't afford any mishaps." Although Luna's condition was stable, no one could guarantee how long she could hold on.

Paige, also anxious, decided to let Amelia check the surveillance footage while she went back to Louis's room to wait. If Louis had just gone for a walk and came back, she didn't want to miss him.

Back in the room, Paige thought she should assign a few bodyguards to Louis. After the surgery, he would need care, and if he went out, she could keep track of him.

While Paige was thinking, her phone suddenly rang. Just as she was about to answer, Amelia rushed in. "Ms. Ellison, something terrible has happened. Mr. Carnegie wasn't out on his own; it looks like he was kidnapped."

Paige immediately stood up from the sofa. She was about to answer the phone, but ended up hanging up the call instead. She didn't even notice who was calling. "How is that possible? In Northwind, who would dare kidnap Louis? Let me see the surveillance footage."

Amelia quickly handed over her phone. "He was really kidnapped. Mr. Carnegie seemed to be drugged and was taken out of the hospital in a wheelchair. After that, he disappeared. What should we do?"
