Chapter 265 I Want You to Die with My Mom
Elijah was feeling the heat. He knew Paige was ruthless; she had no mercy with the Sackler Group, and she'd be even tougher on the Trump family.
He sighed, "She smuggled herself out of the country."
Paige was taken aback and thought to herself, 'Smuggled? She's probably still chasing that four hundred million dollars.'
Elijah, already in deep, decided to spill. "Yeah, I found a way to get Xena out. Do you really want her to spend her life in a mental hospital? Do you know what it's like in there?"
Margaret couldn't hold back and slapped Elijah hard. "Wake up! Are you nuts? You think someone will take care of her as a mental patient?"
Elijah roared, "She's not crazy at all."
Margaret almost had a heart attack from anger. "She's not crazy, you're the one who's lost it. Xena pretended to be crazy to get in, so she should face the consequences."
Paige just stood there, thinking Elijah's feelings for Xena were more than just cousinly.
But she didn't want to dig into Elijah's feelings or his relationship with Xena right now. She wanted to know what they had done and where they had gone before disappearing.
Paige turned to Julian and said, "Get the dashcam from Elijah's car."
Elijah got agitated. "Why do you need my dashcam?"
Paige replied, "Would you tell me the truth? After you took Xena out of the mental hospital, did you bring her to the hospital? Did you visit my mom's ward when no one was there? Can I get these answers from you?"
Elijah gritted his teeth. He wasn't dumb enough to lie. "My dashcam's been broken for a long time," he said.
Paige raised her voice. "Then check the surveillance cameras!"
Julian instructed someone to handle it and then asked Paige, "Should we send someone to intercept Xena?"
Paige nodded. "Report her whereabouts as soon as you find her. I need to know her location immediately."
Julian nodded. "Yes, ma'am!"
Hearing this, Elijah got emotional. "Paige, you can't treat Xena like this. She just wants to get away. What right do you have to stop her?"
Paige replied, "I never intended to let her leave. The only reason I haven't acted is because the Sackler family was supervising her. If I had known they couldn't handle it, I would have taken action myself."
Not long after, Julian's men brought over the dashcam from Elijah's car. Seeing that Paige had found the footage from that day, Elijah lunged to grab it. Paige dodged him easily.
But Elijah's reaction made Paige's face darken even more, confirming her suspicion that Elijah and Xena had indeed gone to the hospital again. Otherwise, he wouldn't be so anxious.
Paige reviewed the footage. Sure enough, after leaving the mental hospital, Elijah drove Xena straight to the hospital.
"Elijah, how dare you? It's one thing to let Xena go, but you even brought her to the hospital. What were you thinking? What did you do there?"
Elijah refused to answer. The dashcam footage showed the car entering the hospital parking lot, and Elijah and Xena walking into the hospital together.
Paige carefully checked the time, which matched when Francesca arrived at the hospital.
Paige closed her eyes for a moment, then slowly opened them. "You won't talk, huh? Then I'll say it. You brought Xena into the hospital, took her to my mom's ward, and waited for a chance to harm my mom."
"And it just so happened that Francesca was inside visiting my mom. After Francesca left, you took the opportunity to sneak in, didn't you?"
As Paige spoke, she walked straight towards Elijah. She grabbed his collar and demanded fiercely, "Tell me, was it you and Xena who poisoned my mom? Do I need to present the evidence right in front of you for you to tell the truth?"
Paige had Elijah by the collar, and Caleb was watching nervously from the side.
Paige, fuming, asked Elijah again, "Tell me, was it you who poisoned her?"
Elijah shook his head. "No, it wasn't me."
Paige pressed on, "If it wasn't you, then it was Xena?"
Elijah shook his head again. "No, Xena wouldn't do something like that."
Paige took a deep breath. Elijah didn't deny that he and Xena had been to Luna's ward, which made Paige's heart feel like it was being squeezed by a giant hand, the pain nearly suffocating her.
She had thought that after Francesca, no one else had entered the ward. She never expected that Xena and Elijah had been there. What good could come from them visiting Luna's ward?
Given Xena's malicious nature, she had pushed Luna down the stairs and later came up with such a vicious way to harm her. Paige believed she was capable of poisoning her.
Elijah, cornered by Paige, said, "No, we didn't poison her. We went to the hospital because Xena wanted to see Margaret. Even if Margaret hates Xena, Xena still wanted to visit her before leaving. Xena didn't go to your mom's side, let alone poison her. Someone else must have harmed your mom. Xena is affectionate and would never do such a thing to your mom. Besides, how would she poison her without getting the poison?"
Paige scoffed, "She was truly affectionate when she pushed my mom down the stairs. She was affectionate when she deceived the Sackler family for so many years. Did she come back to see Mrs. Sackler? She probably hates Mrs. Sackler to death."
Turning to Margaret, Paige said, "Mrs. Sackler, your granddaughter, whom you raised yourself, said she wanted to see you before leaving. Are you scared?"
Margaret didn't need Paige to ask; she was already terrified. Caleb had already noticed Margaret's pale face and angrily stepped in to confront Elijah, "You better come clean. What exactly did you bring Xena to the hospital for?"
Caleb was also scared that Elijah had really brought Xena back to kill Luna. Paige would never let this go.
He took a deep breath, his eyes narrowing as he spoke with deliberate calmness, "I've been at the hospital with Margaret these past few days. We know very well whether Xena came to see Margaret or not."
Elijah said, "She did see Margaret but she just didn't dare to enter the ward. If she had entered, could she have left? She just wanted to take one last look. She really didn't go to Luna's side, I swear."
Paige had basically identified the real suspect, but without evidence, she couldn't act just yet. Once she had the evidence, nothing Elijah said would matter.
Meanwhile, back at the lab, Lucas immediately got to work following Paige's instructions. He first analyzed the hair found under Luna's pillow and compared it to Xena's archived data.
Paige and Elijah were both exhausted from their standoff by the time Paige received the comparison data from Lucas.
When the information came in, Paige held her breath as she opened the message on her phone. The answer was too important to her.
As the data displayed on her screen, Paige saw the final result. Her fingers tightened around her phone, her skin stretched taut, and her veins bulged.
In the next second, Paige directly threw her phone at Elijah's face. Elijah felt a sharp pain but hadn't yet reacted when Paige rushed at him and started beating him.
Elijah couldn't even block a punch, let alone fight back. Paige's punches landed on Elijah like he was a punching bag. Caleb and Margaret were both alarmed.
"Paige, what's wrong with you? Why did you start a fight without saying anything?" Margaret was extremely worried and had a very bad feeling.
Caleb, anxious to pull Paige away, tried to intervene. After all, it was his son being beaten. As Paige's punches rained down, Caleb reached out to stop her, but Paige kicked him away. She continued to beat Elijah with all her strength.
She screamed, venting her emotions, "Bastard, you released that demon Xena. You brought her to the hospital. It was all because of you. You brought that bitch Xena to the hospital and let her kill my mom. Elijah, I want you and Xena to die with my mom!"
