Chapter 316 A Man and a Woman Alone
Frederick's hand on Raymond's shoulder trembled slightly.
He let go shakily, and immediately started smoothing out the wrinkles in his own clothes.
Frederick, with a humble demeanor and a lowered voice, still muttered, "Mr. Carnegie, this is inappropriate. Given your status, how can you do such an immoral thing? Right?"
Raymond's gaze fixed on Frederick.
Frederick was being overly bold, from grabbing his shoulder to using the word "immoral." This was a blatant provocation.
However, before Raymond could speak, Frederick started ranting at Amelia.
Frederick pointed at Amelia, "You, look at what you've done. Ms. Ellison, can you face her? Our family may be open-minded, but we never taught you to be with a married man..."
Frederick couldn't continue.
Simon had a stern expression the entire time, looking very displeased.
Meanwhile, Paige had already stood up and walked over.
From what Frederick was saying, Paige guessed he had mistaken Raymond for the man who had a one-night stand with Amelia at the hotel last night.
What a misunderstanding.
Paige felt embarrassed.
As she approached, she patted Frederick's shoulder from behind.
Frederick, thinking it was Simon signaling him to stop, said, "This kind of thing cannot be tolerated."
Simon turned his head and saw Paige, his face immediately showing an awkward expression, thinking this was a scene of catching someone in the act.
Simon spoke, "Ms. Ellison."
Frederick quickly turned around, and upon seeing Paige, he immediately became nervous, "Ms. Ellison, you..."
Paige, fearing Frederick might say something inappropriate, quickly interrupted him. "Are you here for breakfast too? Raymond and I heard the breakfast here is good, so we came together this morning."
Paige emphasized the words "morning" and "together."
She even deliberately slowed down her speech when saying those words.
As Simon and Frederick understood her words, their eyes fell on Louis, who was following behind Paige.
Louis was now in their line of sight.
Simon and Frederick weren't fools; they immediately realized it was a misunderstanding.
Seeing Raymond and Amelia sitting together for breakfast—no, Amelia wasn't eating breakfast, she seemed to be just talking to Raymond. It was a perfectly normal interaction, and they had misunderstood!
Now seeing Louis, they understood.
Frederick said, "So last night, Mr. Louis Carnegie was with Amelia?"
At this point, Louis immediately stepped forward to explain, "I drank too much last night. There were many friends at the party, but everyone got drunk, so Amelia just took care of me."
Amelia, feeling both embarrassed and helpless, said, "Dad, Frederick, you're exaggerating."
Simon, feeling awkward, quickly apologized to Raymond.
Raymond, though not easy to deal with, didn't get truly angry, considering Paige and the Smith family's genuine loyalty.
Given the Smith family's status, Frederick daring to say those words to him was also a way of protecting Paige.
However, all the pressure now fell on Louis.
Louis knew that not only Simon and Frederick didn't believe that Amelia just took care of him last night, but even Paige and Raymond couldn't fully believe it.
After all, a man and a woman alone, with alcohol involved, was understandable!
Seeing the disbelief on everyone's faces, Louis's expression gradually darkened.
Amelia said, "Come on, don't just stand there. It's too conspicuous. Dad, Frederick, have you had breakfast?"
Frederick replied, "We've eaten. We won't disturb you. You continue eating? My father and I will head back to the company."
Simon quickly added, "Amelia, remember to come home early. Your mother is waiting for you."
The implication was clear, no matter what the relationship with Louis was, this matter needed to be explained.
Amelia knew she couldn't avoid it, but she still unconsciously leaned towards Paige.
This was a Smith family matter, and Paige couldn't help, so she quickly leaned towards Raymond, took his arm, and gave Amelia a helpless smile.
Amelia had no choice but to respond reluctantly, "Dad, I understand."
Simon and Frederick exchanged a few polite words with Paige and then left.
Paige said, "You two need to explain what happened last night."
Louis replied, "There's nothing to explain. Amelia even recorded a video. Nothing happened last night."
Facing the Smith family's scrutiny, Louis didn't avoid it. He still wanted to explain himself to Paige.
Amelia, understanding Louis's situation, smiled faintly and said, "Ms. Ellison, Mr. Carnegie, I was just taking care of Louis out of humanitarian concern last night."
Seeing Amelia explain for him in front of Paige, Louis's expression softened.
Having already promised Paige, Louis decided to change the subject. "We still have some time. Why don't we go see Dr. Ashton now?"
Paige took a deep breath. Yes, this matter was the most important.
She nodded, "Alright, as long as you're ready."
With that, Paige grabbed her bag, ready to take Louis over.
As they left the restaurant and took the elevator downstairs, a dozen cars blocked the hotel entrance.
Raymond and Amelia's cars couldn't get through.
Raymond frowned slightly, "The Carnegie family's cars."
Paige's face immediately darkened.
Louis also recognized them.
At that moment, the door of one of the luxury cars opened, and a pair of elegant legs stepped out. Francesca, exuding an air of nobility, got out of the car and walked straight towards Paige and the group.
Francesca approached, her eyes fixed on Paige, full of vigilance.
Louis spoke first, "Mom, what are you doing?"
Francesca looked back at her entourage.
This time, she wasn't without the Carnegie family's bodyguards.
Several black-clad bodyguards got out of each car, all trained by Francesca.
They stood there, blocking the entrance completely, exuding a strong sense of pressure.
Only Paige remained calm, smiling faintly, and spoke before Francesca, "Today, no matter who comes, they can't stop what I need to do!"
