Chapter 263 Elijah and Xena Went Missing
Paige suddenly stopped right in front of Margaret, who looked at her for a few seconds, feeling a bit jittery.
Usually, she only saw Paige from a distance. She never thought Paige would actually come up and talk to her today.
Margaret, all excited, shouted, "Paige!"
Paige asked again, "Who did you say hasn't shown up for two days?"
Margaret replied, "It's Elijah. I've been worried about you every day. Paige, are you okay?"
But Paige didn't give her much chance to speak and turned to leave. As Paige walked away, her mind was racing. There was nothing suspicious about Margaret. Since Xena's identity was revealed, Margaret's attitude towards Paige had been very clear. She even wanted to make amends with Luna.
But Paige remembered what Amelia had told her earlier. After Xena was sent to the mental hospital, Elijah often went to see her.
Paige asked, "How has Xena been these past few days?"
Pearl was stunned. She had been busy with Luna's funeral arrangements and hadn't paid attention to Xena. Moreover, Amelia knew a doctor at the mental hospital, so Pearl hadn't been monitoring the situation there.
Since Pearl was unaware, Paige instructed, "Go to the mental hospital immediately and check if there's any problem."
Pearl nodded and promptly dispatched someone to investigate. Meanwhile, Amelia gathered all the doctors and nurses with dark red hair in the hospital into the conference room. When Paige arrived, she saw there were only six people.
There were few people, so the investigation wouldn't be too difficult. Paige walked over and bowed to everyone. "I'm sorry to take up your time. Since you work in the hospital, you must have heard about Mrs. Parker. Today, while sorting through Mrs. Parker's belongings, I found a clue and need each of you to provide a hair sample. Thank you."
A single hair, ordinary people wouldn't hesitate to give it. But if the real culprit was among them, they might be afraid.
Once Paige finished speaking, the six medical staff members promptly handed over a hair sample to Amelia, who was busy recording and labeling them.
With their neat and prompt actions, Paige had a rough idea of the results even before the analysis. This matter was basically unrelated to them. Just as Paige's hope was fading, Pearl received a phone call.
Pearl exclaimed, "What?"
Pearl's exclamation immediately drew everyone's attention. Pearl glanced at Paige, who was clearly paying attention to her phone conversation.
After finishing the call, Pearl quickly reported to Paige, who guessed it was news about the mental hospital investigation.
Paige asked, "What's the matter?"
Pearl's voice deepened. "Mrs. Ellison, Xena is missing."
Paige's eyebrows furrowed, and her voice rose sharply. "What? How could she be missing?"
Pearl said, "They're still working on it. They didn't dare report it, so the matter has been suppressed until now."
Paige's brows furrowed tightly. What a coincidence? Luna was dead, while Xena, who was confined in the mental hospital, was missing. And Elijah, who was supposed to be helping the Trump family take care of Margaret, had also been missing for two days.
Paige immediately turned back, not to Luna's former room, but towards Margaret's room. As she walked, Paige called Locas who always answered Paige's calls quickly.
Once connected, Paige got straight to the point, "Do you still have the paternity test report from the last analysis you did for Xena and Margaret?"
With Locas's confirmation, Paige said, "Send someone to the hospital immediately. I have some hair samples that need testing."
Locas agreed, "I'll come personally to collect them."
Paige didn't waste any time. After hanging up, she kept heading towards Margaret's room. "Did you know Xena is missing?" sheasked.
Margaret looked confused. "Xena is missing? You mean that crazy woman who was sent to the mental hospital?"
Paige replied, "Yeah, the one your Sackler family sent there. And now you can't even keep track of her? You didn't know she was missing, did you?"
Margaret's face paled slightly as she realized the gravity of the situation. She could tell Paige wasn't here for a casual chat. "Paige, don't worry. It's probably just the hospital's lax supervision. I'll send someone to find her right away."
Paige gave a cold smile. "Funny thing, I heard Elijah was visiting Xena every day with treats. Now they're both missing. Don't you think that's a bit too coincidental?"
Margaret immediately turned to Caleb. "Have you contacted him? What's Elijah up to, and why hasn't he shown up?"
Caleb started to panic. Xena missing from the mental hospital, and Elijah also MIA for two days? That was too much.
While making calls, Caleb glanced at Paige, clearly rattled.
Elijah's phone was still unreachable, so Caleb started calling other numbers.
When he finally got through to someone, his tone was even more urgent than Paige's. "Where's Elijah? You don't know? Forget about your salary and bonuses this month."
After hanging up, Caleb kept dialing. Paige still held the dark red hair she found under Luna's pillow. If she remembered right, Xena had dark red hair.
Caleb made several calls, but no one knew where Elijah was. After hanging up again, he started to worry.
Elijah was supposed to be the future heir of the Trump family, and Xena was originally from the Sackler family. Caleb didn't mind their closeness, thinking it would help future cooperation between the families.
But now that he knew Xena was just the daughter of a human trafficker, he wanted Elijah to stay away from her. This was especially pressing since Xena had fallen out with the Sackler family. If she hadn't gone crazy, her fate would have been miserable.
But now, with both of them missing, it was hard not to overthink. Caleb's mind raced through the possibilities, each more troubling than the last.
Paige stared at Caleb, her eyes filled with cold.
"I've tried my best, but Elijah hasn't been found. But don't worry, I've got everyone looking for him," Caleb said.
Paige replied, "You better find Elijah yourselves. If I find him and discover he's involved in Xena's disappearance or my mother's death, there will be hell to pay!"
Paige had no patience left. If Caleb couldn't find him, she would.
Just as she was about to leave, Caleb sensed her intention and got anxious. "I'll check with his friends again. They often party together for days," he said.
Caleb quickly started making calls again. At that moment, Elijah's voice came from outside. "What's going on? Why are so many people outside Margaret's room?"
Paige's people were all outside the room. Hearing Elijah's voice, everyone inside the room came out.
Elijah, reeking of alcohol, pointed at the people outside the room. "Don't block my way."
Caleb put down his phone and shouted, "Elijah, where the hell have you been?"
Elijah's gaze subtly shifted, and when he noticed Paige's presence, his heart gave a slight tremor.
