Chapter 306 Are You Doubting My Love for You?

A wave of helplessness hit Paige, catching her off guard.

She was just seeking the truth about Luna's death, but the truth was more than she could bear.

It wasn't that she was overthinking.

The facts were right in front of her. Both she and Xena did DNA matching and neither was successful.

Xena's background was clear. She wasn't Luna's biological daughter but had been switched by traffickers.

It made sense that she didn't match.

Paige was different from Xena. How could she fail the matching?

As Paige was caught in an endless loop of doubt, Raymond grabbed her.

"Paige, this is over. Xena is dead, and your revenge has been taken."

Paige's gaze slowly moved to Raymond. Had her revenge really been taken?

Looking again at the corpse on the ground, yes, her revenge had been taken.

Xena was completely dead, no longer existing in this world.

Paige hadn't killed her on her own, but she had seen it with her own eyes. Xena died right in front of her, in her arms.

Raymond held onto Paige and continued, "Louis was right. Francesca didn't kill Mrs. Parker, and Xena didn't see her take any action. What Xena saw might not be the whole story."

Paige looked at Raymond, "But she took Mom's hair. Why did she take the hair?"

Raymond: "At least it proves she didn't intend to kill Mom."

Paige couldn't get past this issue for a moment.

She just looked at Raymond, still holding doubts about this answer.

Who could know what Francesca was really thinking?

She was just investigating, but unexpectedly, another secret was uncovered. Paige felt exhausted and overwhelmed.

Looking again at Xena's corpse on the ground, Paige suddenly felt a wave of nausea.

She quickly ran to the side and couldn't help but vomit.

Seeing this, Raymond immediately followed and gently patted Paige's back, "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

Paige couldn't answer. Her stomach was churning, and she vomited everything out.

Pearl and Amelia also moved, bringing warm water, towels, and other items for Paige.

After Paige cleaned her mouth and took a breath, she finally spoke.

"Not a word about today's events. If anyone says a word, don't blame me for being ruthless."

In the room were people whom Paige trusted.

She was dealing with her hatred, and Quentin's people were far outside the house.

Outside the room were her bodyguards. Inside were her and Raymond's subordinates, and her friend Amelia.

With one word from Paige and a look from Raymond, everyone understood.

Amelia raised her left hand to her head and swore, "Ms. Ellison, don't worry. My lips are sealed. I won't say a word."

Paige looked at her and nodded.

Then Amelia lowered her hand, glanced at Xena's corpse, and nervously said, "Ms. Ellison, can we go somewhere else? This is the first time I've seen a corpse."

And it was someone she knew, with a gruesome and bloody death.

Paige looked again and felt uncomfortable.

She had seen corpses before, even more gruesome and bloody than Xena's, but today, for some reason, it made her feel nauseous.

Paige didn't want to see Xena's corpse anymore, so she ordered, "Julian, have someone take care of her body. Let's go out; I don't want to smell the blood."

The strong smell of blood made Paige very sick.

The group left the room, and Paige breathed in the fresh air outside, finally feeling a bit better.

At this moment, Paige had no energy left and no appetite.

"I'm going back to my room. Everyone, carry on with your tasks."

With that, Paige walked to her room. Raymond naturally accompanied her. Back in the room, Paige looked at Raymond and felt a bit awkward.

She immediately avoided Raymond's gaze and said, "I have the smell of death all over me. I'm going to take a shower."

Raymond knew that Paige was troubled by what Xena had said.

So he held Paige and said, "Don't think about what Xena said. Those were all her speculations. She had no evidence and just wanted to plant seeds of doubt in your mind to burden you. Don't think about it, okay? We've been married for a long time. Don't let any provocation make you doubt."

Paige finally met Raymond's gaze, feeling anxious, and said, "I need to calm down first, then have Locas do a test for me."

"He kept my mom's genetic data. When we get back to Northwind, I'll do the test."

"I want to know if what Xena saw and suspected is true. We'll talk about everything then."

Hearing this, Raymond looked at her, unsure whether to support or stop her.

There was still time.

Raymond thought for a moment and nodded, "Go take a shower. I'll have the chef make something. You should eat a little later."

Paige: "I'm not hungry." She then turned and headed to the bathroom.

On the other side, Louis was doing his best to protect Francesca as they left the scene of the dispute, but on the way back to their rooms, Louis followed Francesca instead of going to his room.

As soon as Francesca stepped into her room, she turned to block Louis at the door.

She said, "Louis, too much has happened today. I'm very tired and want to rest."

Louis knew this was Francesca's way of avoiding explaining anything to him.

Louis should have just gone back to his room and let Francesca rest as a thoughtful son used to do.

But today, he wanted to get to the bottom of things.

Francesca couldn't say those things in front of Paige, but now, Louis wanted to get a clear and definite answer.

Louis held the door with one hand, looking at Francesca with a bit of confusion and doubt in his eyes.

"Mom, can't I even know? Do you know why I agreed to help you? It's because I thought you really wanted to kill Mrs. Parker. I was afraid that keeping Xena alive would let Paige find out."

"So I was willing to act, willing to kill Xena to cover up the truth."

Hearing Louis say this, Francesca couldn't just leave him talking outside the door.

She pulled Louis into the room and cautiously looked outside to see if any of Paige's people were eavesdropping.

Seeing everything was normal, Francesca closed the door and turned to Louis, "You can speak louder so that everyone can hear."

Louis took a deep breath, not knowing what to say. He hadn't meant to speak so loudly.

Francesca vented with that remark, then walked over, grabbed a bottle of water, unscrewed the cap, and gulped it down, showing none of her usual elegance.

After drinking more than half the bottle at a draught, she turned to look at Louis.

"I didn't want to kill Mrs. Parker. That was Xena losing her mind and slandering me. I don't know if she did it to live a few more days or to sow discord. In any case, it's an accusation out of thin air."

"If the others don't believe me, fine. But Louis, you're my son. Don't you believe me?"

Louis couldn't believe it. The facts were right in front of him; he wasn't blind or deaf.

Louis: "You took Mrs. Parker's hair. If you didn't intend to kill her, then when Xena said you choked Mrs. Parker, could it have been when you took her hair?"

"Xena might have misunderstood, thinking you wanted to kill Mrs. Parker by choking her. But in the end, she saw you take Mrs. Parker's hair."

"Mom, what did you mean by taking her hair?"

After Mrs. Parker passed away, under Paige's strong resentment, you insisted on taking me to the funeral home to say goodbye to Mrs. Parker."

"Why did you do this?"

Like Paige, Louis was curious about the truth too.

He had also heard Xena's last words. Xena said that neither she nor Paige had a chance to match with Luna, but he, a stranger, did.

What did that mean?

It had to indicate something.

Francesca held the bottle tightly. If it weren't a glass bottle, it might have been deformed by her grip.

She hadn't expected her son Louis to be the first to question her.

She had thought Paige would be the first to doubt her.

But now, if Paige had a belly full of questions, Francesca knew she couldn't escape being questioned by Paige again.

Facing Louis at this moment, Francesca still held her ground.

Francesca thundered, "Louis, what are you doubting? Are you doubting that I'm not your mother?"

Louis was shaken, feeling a bit guilty.

Over the years, he knew how much Francesca loved him and how attentively she treated him.

When he was kidnapped and taken to the countryside, Francesca suffered greatly.

After he was found, Francesca poured all her efforts into him, carefully nurturing him.

She had made up for the years of lost education and life.

She had also endured years of hardship to help him establish himself in the company.

Any success Louis had today was partly due to Francesca's efforts.

Louis felt guilty, but he couldn't let go of these questions without getting a clear answer.

"I'm sorry, Mom." Louis apologized, but when he looked up, his eyes were still filled with hurt as he looked at Francesca. "In my memory, my father's image is already blurry. I even need to look at his photos to redraw his image in my mind."

"This time, you're acting too strange. Mom, I'm afraid the truth is what Xena said."

"I'm afraid of the truth, so I took Uncle Raymond's gun when he wasn't looking to end Xena's life. My shooting skills are terrible. I thought those two shots were enough, but they still gave her time to say more things I was afraid to hear."

"Mom, I've already heard these things. I can't change that."

"So, please, tell me the truth, okay?"

"What is your connection with Mrs. Parker, and does it have anything to do with me?"
