Chapter 384 Ms. Ellison, We've Been Fooled
Emory said, "Ms. Ellison, you don't have to reject me so quickly. I'm just trying to help, and I'd be happy if I could assist you."
Paige answered, "Thank you, but I don't think I can accept the Russell family's kindness."
Paige didn't need the Russell family's help because she wasn't sure what kind of price tag might come with it.
Perhaps, it would be exorbitantly high!
Maybe, the Douglas family once paid with the lives of all their members for such help.
Emory sighed but still nodded politely and took his leave.
Emory had walked a few steps when Paige suddenly remembered something. "Mr. Russell, you forgot something."
Emory turned to look at Paige. "Did I leave something behind?"
Paige gave Pearl a look, and Pearl immediately understood.
She was referring to the large bouquet of roses.
Paige wasn't interested in the roses Emory had sent.
Paige walked a few steps forward and gestured, and a servant immediately brought the bouquet over.
Paige said, "Mr. Russell, please take this with you."
When Emory saw the roses he had sent, his expression darkened. "Ms. Ellison, I never take back what I give."
Paige smiled faintly. "Then please help me throw it away outside. I remember there's a trash can."
Emory's face grew even darker, but Paige had the servant follow him with the bouquet.
Emory said, "Ms. Ellison, don't you like roses? You can tell me what flowers you like, and I'll choose those next time."
Paige replied, "I like flowers, but it depends on who sends them."
Emory understood and immediately looked at Raymond, provocatively saying. "Mr. Carnegie isn't so busy grooming himself that he can't afford to buy Ms. Ellison roses, is he?"
Without waiting for Raymond to respond, Emory turned and strode out.
He didn't care that the servant was still following him with the large bouquet of roses.
After Emory left, Raymond angrily stomped and cursed. "That bastard, what's he talking about? I can't afford to buy you roses? I can't afford it?"
Paige laughed. "Raymond, you've really become a pretty face with no abilities."
Raymond couldn't laugh. He was willing to be a pretty face for Paige.
But that bastard Emory dared to insult him!
Raymond angrily turned and went upstairs, with Charles running to catch up.
As he walked, Raymond ordered, "Buy all the best roses in Arcadia and send them to Paige. I want him to be unable to buy a single rose! Not a single one!"
Charles nodded and said, "Yes. But, Mr. Carnegie, Mrs. Carnegie is still downstairs. You left her alone."
After Emory's visit, it was clear he came with a purpose, which made Margaret's kidnapping even more complicated.
Raymond turned and slapped Charles on the head. "Damn, why didn't you remind me earlier?"
Charles looked aggrieved. "Mr. Carnegie, you didn't give me a chance to speak."
Raymond came to Paige. "I told Charles to buy roses. I'm going to buy all the roses in Arcadia so that he can't get a single one."
Paige laughed. "Alright, competing with Emory is pointless. Besides, even if you buy all the roses in Arcadia, can you buy the Russell family's rose?"
Raymond first had a puzzled look, then quickly understood. What Paige said was Jenny Russell, the rose of the Russell family who was famous for her beauty!
But at the party that day, Raymond saw her in person.
Raymond thought she was just so-so.
Though her beauty was on par with Paige's, she was still a level below.
Raymond retorted, "A rose? She doesn't deserve that title. I think she got that nickname only because the Russell family is in that position."
Paige looked at Raymond. "It seems you don't acknowledge Jenny's beauty, but you do acknowledge Emory's intelligence?"
Raymond replied, "I'm reserving judgment for now. The next heir of the Russell family must have some ability; otherwise, the family wouldn't endorse him."
Paige glanced towards the door. "Do you think the Russell family has any connection with Andrew?"
It was hard to say. After all, Andrew had just threatened Paige, and Emory came with news about the rumors.
Was it just a rumor?
Emory probably already figured out the truth.
He came to Paige to try to ally with her against the Hamilton family.
Paige wasn't foolish. The Russell family didn't genuinely want to cooperate; they needed someone to work for them.
If she fought the Hamilton family and won, the success would naturally belong to the Russell family, which was much stronger than the Ellison family.
If she lost, she would be an insignificant loss.
So, Paige refused Emory so decisively.
She understood there were no permanent enemies, but she wouldn't be a fool and become a sacrificial pawn for her enemy.
Raymond was also calmly analyzing the situation.
While Paige and Raymond were pondering, Pearl quickly ran back after seeing Emory out.
Paige asked, "Did you throw the roses in the trash?"
Pearl said, "It's not about the roses, Ms. Ellison. Something big happened! Look at this!"
Pearl handed her phone to Paige.
Paige took Pearl's phone and saw an electronic invitation on the screen.
At first glance, Paige saw the Universe Group's logo.
How could she, the CEO, not know if the Universe Group sent out invitations?
Looking closer, it was an invitation for a banquet tomorrow night for various elites.
Paige immediately asked, "What's going on?"
She hadn't instructed the Universe Group to prepare any banquet!
Pearl, sweating with anxiety, quickly flipped the page on her phone and showed Paige the guest list.
The first line of the list had the most important guests.
"The Hamilton family? The Russell family?" Paige looked at Pearl.
Pearl nodded, "Yes, these two families were invited. Ms. Ellison, we've been tricked!"
