Chapter 230 Regretting
She thought blocking Margaret's number would give her some peace. But nope, it wasn't long before Paige's phone rang again. It was Margaret, of course. Paige blocked the number herself and then just turned off her phone. Right now, she just wanted to be left alone, without any drama.
Unexpectedly, Pearl got a call from Margaret. When Pearl came upstairs to knock on the door, she was super cautious. "Xanthe, Mrs. Sackler has called me several times."
Hearing Pearl's report, Paige said straight up, "Tell her if she keeps calling, I'll sue her for harassment."
Pearl nodded. "Yes, Xanthe." Pearl was no dummy; she knew Paige would never take Margaret's call or give her a chance to talk. So when Margaret called again, Pearl shut her down firmly downstairs.
But Margaret wasn't giving up. If it weren't for her health, Margaret would probably have gotten up and gone to find Paige herself. In the hospital room, Margaret kept brainstorming ways to see Paige or at least talk to her.
The Trump family members were all in the hospital room, more gathered than ever before. Given the big stuff happening with the Sackler family, it made sense for the Trump family, being Margaret's relatives and close business partners, to be there to help.
But today's news truly shocked everyone. Margaret had raised Xena with so much effort, only to find out she was someone else's kid. Xena had known the truth all along. She even sent Paige, the real Sackler heir, to the countryside.
If she had completely gotten rid of Paige, it would have been one thing. But Paige was a force. After five years in prison, she came out and became the CEO of the Universe Group, a company way out of everyone's league.
Margaret leaned on the hospital bed, no longer on the verge of fainting. But she was anxious because Paige clearly didn't want to acknowledge her.
The more Paige acted this way, the more anxious Margaret got. After another failed attempt to call Paige, Margaret looked at everyone. "Don't just stand there, think of something. How can we get Paige to see me?"
Margaret's words finally got someone to speak up, "Honestly, I always knew Paige was something special with her aura and presence. At the birthday party, she burned a box of cash, five million dollars, without a second thought. For someone just out of prison, five million dollars is no small amount. She didn't even blink before burning it. It was clear she couldn't be an illegitimate child! Turns out she's the Sackler heir, the hope of both our families."
"My elder brother's right. Paige is destined for great things. Her aura and presence are just like Aunt Margaret's when she was young."
Margaret glanced at her nephews and sighed, "What's the use of saying this now? Think of a way to get Paige to come back."
After Margaret finished speaking, Elijah, who was always a bit slow to react, finally spoke up, "Grandma, is Xena really not your granddaughter?" For some reason, Elijah felt a weird sense of joy at this news.
Margaret shot a look at Elijah. "Don't mention Xena again. She deserves to pay for deceiving me all these years. A human trafficker's daughter pretending to be part of the Sackler family. If she weren't nuts, I'd have called the cops on her and her trafficker parents."
Margaret was fuming at the mention of Xena. She couldn't believe her second granddaughter had died long ago. She had been too careless, letting a real illegitimate child take Paige's place and fool her for so many years, even transferring company assets.
Elijah's dad, the current Trump family head and Margaret's eldest nephew, sighed after a long silence. As soon as he did, Margaret immediately looked at him.
He spoke, "Aunt Margaret, whether you meant to or not, you've created a deep rift with Paige over the years. She was just a kid when she was sent to the countryside, living a tough life there. Especially after that family had their own child, they treated Paige even worse.''
Elijah's dad continued, ''If it weren't for the elderly in that family protecting her, Paige might not have grown up safely and healthily. And then you know what happened later. Not to mention the five years in prison imposed by her own grandmother, which no one could accept.''
''Rebuilding the relationship and becoming a real family will be tough. It won't happen overnight; you need to plan for the long haul."
Margaret listened to these words and was moved to tears. "It's all my fault. No, it's also Xena and her trafficker parents'. They will pay for what they've done. I won't let any of them go."
Margaret was filled with regret, but it was too late to undo her mistakes. "Such precious years were the best of a young girl's life. I was too cruel, sending Paige, my only granddaughter, to prison." Margaret cried out in regret, but it was useless. She couldn't even contact Paige now.
Elijah's dad said, "Aunt Margaret, stop crying. We still have an advantage. Even if you can't reach Paige, at least you're in the same hospital as her mother. You should also compensate Paige's mother. She's been ill for years, and maybe she can help mend your relationship now."
Margaret immediately nodded. "You're right. Help me up. I need to see how she's doing."
