Chapter 328 What Else Can We Do Besides Run?

Everyone thought Paige would fall asleep after the injection and wouldn't wake up until midnight.

But when Pearl opened the door, she realized there was a big problem.

Pearl turned around and shouted to the others, "Mr. Ellison, Ms. Ellison is missing."

Hearing that Paige was missing, Raymond immediately walked quickly to the front. Sure enough, when he reached the door of the ward, he saw that Paige was no longer inside.

His heart suddenly tightened. Raymond took a deep breath and immediately went out to call Charles.

The others also started moving.

Paige was missing, and this was a big problem.

The ward in the suite didn't have a separate exit. Without asking, Raymond could basically confirm that Paige had climbed out of the window.

The floor here was quite high. She must have climbed to the window of the adjacent ward and left the hospital from another room.

While everyone was in chaos, Paige wrapped her clothes tightly around herself, and the phone in her hand had already switched to another mode.

She made the first call, and as soon as the other side picked up, Paige said, "The Northwind matter is concluded. I will return to headquarters soon as Xanthe Ellison. The bait we released will soon yield results, and the second phase of the plan can officially begin."

The voice on the other end was not loud. After listening for a while, Paige responded, "I will do my best to secure the secret funds, but I have one condition. My whereabouts must be absolutely hidden from now on."

Northwind was no longer a place she could stay.

According to the original plan, Paige would have stayed in Northwind for a while longer, at least until the bait, Lily, had lured out her backer.

But now, Paige knew that this place had become an unbearable burden for her.

Her incomprehensible background, the sudden appearance of her biological mother, her relationship with Raymond, and the unexpected pregnancy all made it impossible for Paige to stay.

Since she couldn't change these truths, she decided to escape!

After receiving a positive response, Paige hung up the phone and quickly placed an order for a hacker task through a very secretive app on her phone.

She knew that everyone would definitely start looking for her immediately after she escaped from the hospital.

If they reacted quickly enough, they might have already started checking the surveillance footage.

Paige didn't plan to deal with the hospital's surveillance, but she wouldn't let anyone track her future movements.

After the order was accepted, Paige wrote a few lines of code herself.

Cecil was a top hacker, and the person who took her order to hide her whereabouts would definitely not be able to evade Cecil's scrutiny.

So Paige had to leave a channel for Cecil, letting him know what to do next.

And she had to take her subordinates with her when she left Northwind.

She had gotten used to the four people led by Pearl, and they would definitely not side with Raymond.

After handling everything, Paige put her phone in her pocket. Her hand instinctively brushed her stomach lightly.

Her flat abdomen showed no signs of change, and Paige still found it hard to believe that there was a child inside her.

Her mind was still in turmoil, not knowing how to deal with this child.

Should she give birth to the child or have an abortion?

Paige walked aimlessly down the street. Under the black night sky, the bustling Northwind was brightly lit and vibrant.

But Paige walked alone, feeling extreme loneliness and sorrow.

She had thought that in her tragic fate, Raymond could be her lifelong support, but she never expected that Raymond would turn out to be her uncle.

Even with a strong heart, Paige couldn't accept such a result.

Besides running away, there was nothing she could do now.

She couldn't even face Raymond.

Nor could she hear any decisions Raymond might make about the child inside her.

Her mind played scenes like a movie, frame by frame, from being sent to the countryside as a child. For years, she had hoped to reunite with her mother, only to find out that both she and her mother were victims of fate's cruel joke.

Now, she knew the truth, while Luna died never knowing that her child was actually someone else.

As Paige walked, she suddenly squatted down, unable to control her emotions, and started crying in a dark corner.

She cried alone for a long time until a late-night taxi suddenly stopped beside her.

The driver rolled down the window and looked at Paige, shouting, "Hey, why are you crying by the roadside? Did something bad happen? Why aren't you going home late at night?"

Paige's sorrowful crying was interrupted. She squatted there but gradually lifted her head to see a middle-aged, balding man leaning out of the taxi window, talking to her.

He asked her why she wasn't going home.

Paige almost started crying again.

Where was her home?

Willow Crest Estate? No, Willow Crest Estate was just a place for her to restart her life.

The Carnegie family? No, she didn't have that kind of relationship with the Carnegie family.

She had no name of her own, no identity, no home!

Seeing her bewildered expression, the driver asked again, "Where's your home? I'll take you there."

Paige whispered, "I don't have a home."

The driver pursed his lips and sighed, "I just got off work. Consider it charity; I won't charge you. Get in the car."

Seeing the driver's kind face, Paige suddenly felt reluctant to refuse.

She got up and slowly walked to the taxi, opened the door, and got in.

The driver handed her a tissue. "Wipe your tears. In life, there's no difficulty you can't overcome. Where's your home, or where do you want to go?"

Paige thought for a moment. Where did she want to go? Unconsciously, she gave an address.

The driver responded, "Alright, buckle up, and let's go."

With that, the driver stepped on the gas and drove off with Paige.

Paige sat in the back seat, looking out the window.

The driver was clearly a chatterbox, continuously talking to console Paige. Eventually, he handed her a paper bag from the front passenger seat. "You probably haven't had dinner yet. There's a sandwich here; you can have it."

Paige took the paper bag numbly. For some reason, the aroma of the food suddenly triggered her appetite.

She opened the paper bag and took a bite.

The sandwich's flavor spread through her mouth, and Paige suddenly shed two lines of tears.

The driver glanced at her through the rearview mirror and smiled, seeing her devour the sandwich as if she hadn't eaten all day.

Paige still didn't say much, quietly crying and eating, her tears falling onto the sandwich, which she then bit into.

She continued eating the sandwich the driver gave her, listening to his casual chatter. "I have a little girl at home too. I hope she never has to cry by the roadside at night. There are so many bad people in the world; what if she encounters one?"

Such homely and warm words made Paige cry even more.

She looked up at the driver through the rearview mirror. His smile was kind, and his words carried the gentle warmth of a loving father.

He might be a reflection of all the ordinary fathers in the world.

The kind of father Paige had always envied other children for having.

But she had no father.

After finishing the sandwich mixed with her tears, the car stopped at the destination.

The driver asked, "We're here. The mansion area is ahead, but my car can't go in. What do you think?"

Paige wiped her tears, numbly got out of the car. Her mind was in chaos, unable to think of anything. She nodded woodenly, got out of the car, and even forgot to pay.

Seeing her state, the driver asked if she needed any other help, but Paige didn't hear him and walked straight towards the mansion.

The driver scratched his head, "As long as you have a place to go."

With that, the driver turned the car around and left.

Paige walked all the way to a mansion, stood in front of it, and finally squatted down outside the door.

She held her head in her hands, her mind still filled with chaotic memories.

After about fifteen minutes, the lights inside the mansion turned on, and people hurried out.

The mansion door opened, and Margaret, with a coat draped over her shoulders, bent down to look closely at Paige squatting on the ground.

Recognizing her immediately, Margaret rushed to help her up. "Paige, what's wrong? Why are you squatting outside in the middle of the night? What happened?"
