Chapter 279 You Don't Deserve It!
Paige listened to Xena's frantic rant from start to finish. When Xena first dragged her into the scene of Luna's poisoning, Paige almost lost it too.
But Xena's madness revealed her own desperation.
Paige answered Xena's questions icyly, "Because you don't deserve it!"
Xena suddenly snapped, flailing at the camera, "We're the same, so why do you deserve it and I don't?"
Paige shot back, "You've been called Ms. Sackler for twenty years. Have you forgotten who you really are? You keep saying you called her mom for years, but when you hurt her, weren't you just as ruthless? You and your parents caused her little daughter's death! The Sackler Family's staircase is so high, yet you still pushed her down. And you still want her motherly love? Do you deserve it?"
Xena, pierced by Paige's words, screamed, "Do you think I wanted her to die? I loved her and I worked so hard for so many years just to get her approval and love. How could I want her to die? But I had no choice! She was too heartless to me, she pushed me to that point."
Xena fumed, "Our birthdays are so close. It was unimaginable that my biological parents, who had never visited me before, would show up that day. That day, she sent everyone away and confronted me alone. Do you know how much I wanted her to love me? But she didn't care at all about our years of mother-daughter relationship. She knew that once this was exposed, I would be kicked out of the Sackler Family immediately."
She added, "I had already knelt down and begged her, but when she saw I was determined not to admit my identity to Grandma, she said she would personally expose me to Grandma. She was the one who didn't care about our mother-daughter relationship first. Why should I give up everything I worked so hard for so easily? I knew that once she exposed me to Grandma, my beautiful life would be over. I had no other options, do you understand?"
"Xena, you deserve what you have today! You should blame your biological parents, not my mom." At this moment, Paige had the upper hand psychologically. She was well aware of Xena's weakness and pitifulness.
Paige continued, "Your biological parents abandoned you. All that talk about finding you a better place is just a facade. Do you think you were their daughter? No, you were just their tool. What's the difference between you and the other kids they trafficked? I'll tell you, nothing. Those kids were pitiful, running into scum like your parents. But at least they had their parents' love, and you didn't! You were just an investment your parents placed in a wealthy family. You were a transaction in their hands, meant to squeeze benefits out of the Sackler Family to satisfy them. Even your biological parents didn't love you, and you still want my mom's love? Xena, what dream are you living in?"
Paige added, "And do you think Margaret loved you? She only cared about her own bloodline and capable heirs. Haven't you always been scared that with your mediocre abilities, Margaret would eventually lose patience with you? If she really loved you, would she have abandoned you after your DNA test results came out? Xena, I've never seen anyone as pitiful as you."
After finishing, Paige hung up the call and exited the livestream. She didn't need to see to know how Xena would be driven to madness.
The deeper Xena's inner longing, the more the disappointment of not achieving it would be enough to torment her psychologically.
After Paige left, Xena tried to grab the camera in anger, only to be severely beaten and thrown into a saltwater pool.
With both old and new wounds covering her body, the instant Xena was thrown into the saltwater pool, she instantly grasped the true meaning of physical agony.
The pain, hunger, and exhaustion left Xena unable to even curse.
At that moment, she truly felt worse than death. After closing her computer, Paige sat there quietly. A video was sent to her showing Xena being thrown into the saltwater pool, but Paige didn't care.
She pondered Xena's words, 'Was it true that Xena wanted to harm Luna, or was there more to the story?'
Although Paige hadn't mentioned Francesca much these days, she hadn't stopped thinking about it for a single day. Paige couldn't understand Francesca's actions.
Francesca claimed it was to stop Louis from donating a kidney, but the surveillance was destroyed, and the security and medical defenses were also breached. She met Luna alone, providing Xena the opportunity to poison Luna.
What was so secretive that she had to go to such lengths to talk to Luna? Paige really didn't understand.
Paige was certain that Xena knew something and was looking to strike a deal, but she wasn't going to allow her that opportunity.
She just needed to keep Xena alive for now. As for Francesca's matters, Paige could try a different approach to figure it out.
As Paige pondered without finding an answer, the door to the study was suddenly knocked.
