Chapter 11 Silent Rainy Night, The Missed Encounter

Late night in Evergreen City.

Grace stood quietly, her head tilted back, watching Henry care for Elodie on the big screen. When the chill set in, she snapped out of her daze and murmured, "Another romantic holiday?"

With her violin in hand, she turned to leave. The streetlights stretched her shadow long and far. As she walked down the dimly lit street, she thought about Henry's coldness towards her.

Maybe Elodie was too flashy, and finally, she caught Aurora's attention. Aurora sought out Grace.

Back then, Grace was performing in a supermarket, wearing a cheap dress rented from the performance company, with band-aids on her hands from playing the violin. Who would have thought she was Henry's wife?

Aurora stood in the audience, looking stern. Grace noticed her, hesitated, but then focused back on her violin.

During the break, Aurora walked over and said coldly, "There's a café outside. I'll be waiting for you." Then she left.

Grace kept wiping her violin.

A concerned colleague leaned over and whispered, "Grace, are you in trouble? That woman looked tough!"

Grace shook her head and smiled faintly. "It's nothing. Just someone I know."

The colleague was half-convinced.

Grace changed her clothes and went to the café at the entrance.

Aurora sat by the window, looking very conspicuous in her elegant attire. Grace took a seat. Aurora ordered her a glass of lemon water and remarked, "Coffee's bad for your skin, you know."

Aurora looked at Grace's outfit and couldn't help but scold, "If you want to experience life, I can get you into the best orchestra! What are you doing here? And what are you wearing? Everything must be back to normal before Henry returns!"

Aurora went on and on, while Grace listened quietly, eventually offering a faint smile. "I think this is fine. By the way, I'm divorcing Henry. Have you heard anything about his whereabouts?"

Aurora was taken aback. It was the first time Grace had spoken to her like that, and notably, Grace didn't greet her. In the past, no matter how cold Henry was to her, Grace was always respectful when she saw Aurora. For a moment, Aurora was a bit unaccustomed.

Grace decided to be straightforward. "I know you don't like me, so I'm surprised you came to see me today. I always thought you wanted me to divorce Henry."

Aurora silently observed Grace. It had been a long time since they last met, and Grace seemed noticeably changed. No longer timid, she had become sharp-tongued.

But Aurora, seasoned in high society for decades, had her own subtle methods. She smiled—a delicate, effortless smile.

After a moment, Aurora put away her smile. "Yeah, I don't particularly like you. You're too beautiful. Beautiful women are trouble. But compared to you, I dislike Elodie marrying into the Montague family even more. Someone with such a messy social circle can't possibly enter the Montague family."

She suddenly smiled again. "But she has no chance! With a broken leg and a divorce, even ordinary men wouldn't want her, let alone Henry!"

Grace felt a chill all over.

Aurora stayed composed. She tenderly brushed Grace's face and sighed, "You're truly stunning. It's no wonder Henry can't seem to move on, despite his animosity towards you."

With that, Aurora stood up. She looked around and said lightly, "I'll talk to Henry. Have him take you back." Then she added with some disdain, "This place is not for you."

She walked out of the café, where a sleek black luxury car awaited her. The driver courteously opened the door for her.

Aurora settled into the car, sinking back into the plush seat, and released a slow exhale. She was keenly aware of what Grace was contemplating. It was nothing more than feeling like an unfree, kept pet, with a husband who didn't respect her. But who hadn't gone through that? Who wasn't stunningly beautiful in their youth, yet still couldn't keep their husband's heart?

Grace was still too young, too impulsive! Contemplating this, Aurora felt another surge of contempt wash over her. Glancing out the window, she caught sight of a familiar figure. Mature, handsome, and exuding charisma, he effortlessly stood out from the bustling crowd. But in Aurora's eyes, he was very annoying. She muttered to herself, "That little bastard."

The driver in the front almost thought he heard wrong. 'How could Aurora say such vulgar words? I must have misheard,' he mused silently.

In the café, Grace sat alone for a few minutes. She had no time to mourn anything because she was very busy, busy making a living, busy running around.

Late at night, it started to rain on her way back. Concerned about her violin getting wet, Grace took off her coat to shield it and hurried towards the bus stop. She rarely treated herself to a cab ride. However, on rainy days, hailing a cab proved challenging. After standing in the drizzle for half an hour, Grace shivered from the cold and eventually made the decision to retreat and head back.

But after just a few steps, she saw Henry. Ahead, by the shimmering wet road, a shiny black luxury car was parked. The window was half down, revealing Henry's distinguished face.
