Chapter 374 Another Suicide
Oliver figured she had been planning to leave him for ages. She never thought he'd be so devoted, and she definitely didn't think they'd last forever.
After a bit, Sarah whispered, "Give me Jacob!"
He wrapped his arm around her shoulder, staying quiet.
Deep down, he knew it was over. From the way Sarah talked, he couldn't find any trace of lingering feelings, jealousy, or anger. He couldn't even fathom how her love for him had completely faded.
When she said she didn't love him anymore, she meant it. When she said she didn't want him, she truly meant it.
As they sat there in silence, a servant brought over the phone, saying it was a call from Ellie.
The servant cautiously said, "Ms. Johnson tried to kill herself again."
Oliver took the phone and listened for a bit.
He put down the phone and told Sarah, "I need to go. We'll talk about our stuff when I get back."
Sarah didn't respond. Oliver felt let down.
So, in the early morning snow, he rushed to Ellie's side again.
Ellie had slit her wrists. The rescue efforts, combined with her emotional outbursts, were utterly exhausting.
By the time everything was sorted and he got back to the villa, it was already night.
Oliver was physically and mentally drained. He pushed open the bedroom door, where only a reading lamp was on, and the kids were nowhere to be seen.
It was clear Sarah wanted to talk.
Oliver was beat. He lay down on the soft bed next to Sarah.
Exhausted, Oliver felt no joy. He raised his hand to gently rub his forehead and called out, "Sarah."
He then turned off all the lights. In the enclosed space where their breaths mingled, he quietly began to talk about the time Ellie was raped. Sarah had already guessed this; she didn't speak, nor did she feel guilty, because it had nothing to do with her.
Sarah also knew that Oliver lowering his pride to tell her these things meant he had made a decision.
She was even willing to listen because it no longer mattered to her whom Oliver pitied. She didn't want him anymore.
Just as she thought, after he finished talking, he calmly spoke, "Sarah, I'm letting you go!"
Sarah nodded. She wanted to get up, but he suddenly grabbed her neck, holding her tightly.
Sarah didn't push Oliver away, nor did she reject his insincere affection. She had endured for so long that she didn't mind enduring a bit longer.
She gave him about two minutes and then softly said, "Alright. For a couple about to divorce, there's no need to hug. It's unfair to both me and her! Oliver, let go. Since we're getting divorced, we need to discuss some terms. I'm taking Jacob with me, right?"
